i don't work much with long image sequences like you mentioned, but for AVCHD work at least the performance increase is pretty significant in version 10. I used to transcode all my footage into DNxHD...

i usually drop them in the Vegas Project Media window first and arrange them by name there.

From there i drag them into the timeline and they maintain the file name order and numbering.

can't really tell from the side, maybe a pic from the bottom of the light would be better.

Does it fit into the shoe mount of your camera sideways? If i does then it should fit the bracket facing...

The Genus has 2 filter trays, one fixed and one that rotates.

I would go for the RedRock too if using it on 15mm rails. For a clamp-on/lightweight style the Genus fits the bill.

The Canons HF-S20/200/21 have focus peaking in red, blue or yellow and with the image in black n white too.

they also have 70%/100% zebras btw

which version of Vegas are you using?

i'm using Vegas 10 and i'm editing AVCHD files with no problems. Up until version 9 they were almost impossible to work with and i always had to transcode...

actually the HF S series has a focus knob right next to the lens and it works just like a focus ring, only smaller. You can see it in this pic:
