Your fine Chris. I find the 4X to be more useful than 8x for exactly that reason. 8x is just to much magnification.

I think your overly concerned about a fictitious 5400 and green spikes. If you don't have it you can't shoot with it. My stuff looks just fine. I have not turned anybody into a Martian yet :) :) :)

Be careful, I found the highlight areas on shiny objects are prone to aliasing and moire.
Also, do you have clear or UV filters to protect you lenses?
