Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

I think the real reason telephoto lenses aren't used much in micro-budget indie features is that most scripts simply don't call for them.

In feature filmmaking, no matter what the budget is, the...

Re: Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

Having been in Alaska during summertime, I know that feeling at 11pm. Your brain says hey, there's plenty of light to go do something! And your body says, no you don't!

I'd like to get this...

Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

If they're worth their salt, an AC will be expecting to work with a proper *cinema* lens, such as the Canon Cinema EOS CN-E30-300mm T2.95-3.7 L SP...

What you need for competent focus pulling is an experienced 1st AC. (http://theblackandblue.com/pulling-focus/)

Re: Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

We've got a whole forum for movie discussion -- "Awake In The Dark" -- which is where I've just moved this to, leaving behind a re-direct.

Yeah, I'll have to have this one on Blu_ray, or whatever....

Beautiful! Well done, Aaron, and thanks for sharing this.

Great job going over the pros and cons. That's some amazing glass though.

Re: Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

In my opinion it's the best movie he's ever done.

I went in with low expectations. To me QT has been a parody of himself with some of his work -- he's taken a premise or two here and there that...

Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

Mark's GH5 has e-stab. in the camera body (I think).

OIS (optical) is a lens mechanism. It's found in lenses and on camera bodies that have an integrated lens built in.

EIS (electronic) is a...

Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

Now that's a good question. My guess is to have it on, but you should experiment with it both ways, find out what's best, and report back here to let us know.

Nah, that was indeed the rule...

Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

Yes, what you describe is exactly what I mean by "fighting the pan."

Your particular lens was designed only as a still-photo lens. It was never intended for video. When you have the lens on a...

Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

On Ryan's lens, IS should be switched *off* when shooting from a tripod.

Otherwise it'll fight the pan. Okay to have it on when handheld, though.

Mark's in-body stab. is designed to work with a...

Re: Lens choices for the BMPCC 6K

Great info, thanks David!

I hope the used lens you bought from B&H is the EF-S 18-135 nano USM and not the EF-S 18-135 STM.

Because the nano USM version has the PZA interface, while the STM...

Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

Indeed, long ago there was a Canon 150-600 in FD mount:

Looks like it's been a previous topic of discussion here on DVi:

Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

Actually that's a Tamron or Sigma brand with an EF mount.

Canon doesn't make an EF 150-600.

Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

Actually that's a highly misleading statement which is not necessarily true.

There are plenty of still-photo zoom lenses that are just as sharp as cine zooms. In fact, some cine zooms are simply...

Re: My lens has a spot on it, is there anything I can do?

Just be aware that your EF 75-300 is really not a very good lens and therefore does not have much resale value. It's worth about $20 as a trade-n at B&H:
