Re: Reasons to go for C300 over RED Scarlet X?
I'd be interested to hear what others with experience with Red have to say about reliability.
In 5 days with the Epic, we had several issues that would make me nervous to buy one, or a Scarlet...

Re: Reasons to go for C300 over RED Scarlet X?
Dylan,
btw, that was the camera owner with the cool t-shirt. The Epic is his first Camera, and he rarely takes his hands off it. I'm pretty sure he sleeps with it.

Brian I realize its a cine lens but i dont think that the future is in this style of glass. The director of the film I'm working on was really cursing the fact that the canon mount hadnt been...

Re: Reasons to go for C300 over RED Scarlet X?
Yes...but why. It is a freaking beast.
Our Canon mount was ordered in August and is still not shipped. Supposed to be here next week. We had to add 10 pounds of counterweight to the back to try...

Re: Reasons to go for C300 over RED Scarlet X?
I just spent a week pulling focus on an Epic for the first time. I can't compare the Scarlet yet but here's some first thoughts on the Epic. We were in studio and are heading outside next week.

Re: C300 Discussion
I don't know you guys...
I left film school 20 years ago and wanted to buy a broadcast quality camera. The starting point and only option was a Sony betacam (or film). I think it was around 70k....

Re: Something new from Canon on Nov. 3rd...
Chris, it could be more clearly defined as "it's a business expense if you're CLAIMING it as a business expense on your taxes". In which case you should have the intent to make money at some point....

Re: Critique - Our first Webisode
Paddy,
After watching the first 3 episodes, I'd say you've got a lot of good stuff there. If those 3 episodes were 5 minutes in total instead of 15 minutes, it could be a very tight edit. Add some...

Re: Critique - Our first Webisode
Hey Paddy,
Like I said in my first reply, the tradition here when it comes to critiquing is to critique honestly. If we wanted someone to pad our ego's, we'd just show it to our families. Murray...

Re: 5D noise in gray seamless backdrop
Hey John,
Are you saying your shutter speed was 1/30th? If so, that would seem to add noise. I don't shoot below 1/60th. In fact I read some time back, I think it was Phil Bloom, to use 1/60th...

Re: 5D MarkII - to buy or not to buy
Guillermo,
There are a lot of good, barely used 5d's with low shutter counts around these days. And I saw a reputable retailer selling brand new ones a few months ago for about 800.00 less than I...

Hey Paddy,
Since you're asking for critiques... there's a history of honesty around here as opposed to just fluffing your ego, so consider that. We try to push each other to reach a little higher....

Sounds like you would be ok with the HV then. My biggest issue is with menu based controls, which is the problem with any lower end cam. Give me dials, switches and buttons. You could...

Re: good inexpensive camera to pair with an XLH1
Paul,
I have an H1 and an HV30. The HV does make a nice cheap capture deck....but you didn't say what you are primarily shooting. I went DSLR as well and I mix the H1 with DSLR (5d2) alot. I will...

We're piching a couple of concepts to a regional golf marketing board and this is one of them. Rather than talk about it and storyboard it, I just shot a quick pilot. It's intended to be a little...

I'll second the Lightcraft/Fader Variable ND. I now use it almost always when shooting outdoors. This past weekend I was shooting on an overcast day, and because it's variable, you can dial it in...
