Re: Girls without makeup

If they still want shots, I expose higher for the skin tones to make it more flattering.

Re: Why weddings?

It's a great way to do video and be a school teacher at the same time. :)

Re: Recruiting random guests as camera operators

Here, here.

I can't say I'm an old-timer (10 years in biz), and I do use an occasional slider shot, but I'm all for the natural motions (in more abundance than seems the trend nowadays). I feel...

Re: C100 - grading Cine Log (sample & advice)

Thanks much Richard!

Recorded just with the camera's internal codec (and the Vimeo isn't even the original 1080 file -- I didn't bother, because its intended use doesn't mandate that).

Anyway: ...

Re: Recruiting random guests as camera operators

Kelly -

Just to play devil's advocate:

There are plenty of people who shoot solo and who have thriving businesses. There are ways to shoot solo and still put together an edit that is...

Re: C100 LCD Color Matching

Yes, Matt, I agree that my last paragraph was ambiguous.

That was to say: "cool" in the "blue/white-balance" sense. The LCD screen would have me think that I should be at, say, 3900 or 4000k...

Re: crap venue lighting

Hi Paul and company,

That flicker reducer really looks like a God-send. Nice work.

But I'd still stick with my comment about a little fill light. I know it's a matter of taste. But I still...

Re: C100 LCD Color Matching

I concur that the white balance is about 500k warmer in the LCD.

I've also found that the XF300 can tend to look warmer in the LCD, but not THAT much warmer.

I've found I need to trust my...

Re: crap venue lighting

I know what you mean. But, again, when used only dimly/as needed, the on-cam LED is there purely to fill in faces (not for deer-in-headlights look). I find that with great low-light cams like a...

Re: crap venue lighting

Paul -

I'm sure we're all bound to face that kind of thing (sorry you have to go through it!).

I found the flickering most noticeable in the party/dance portion of the footage. What if you...

Re: Mounting two wireless receivers on C300?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this! :) (and not just with the C100).

Re: Wedding Cost up for 2012

That average probably has a lot more to do with thousands of videographers being around and below that -- and a (relative) few being in the $4000+ category. That would be my guess, at least, if...

Re: Final Delivery - 2-part question

Is mail that dodgy over there? :)

I use a regular postage box, but the couple gets one really nice book-style case from WHCC. WHCC - White House Custom Colour - CD & DVD Cases...

Re: talk me out of it.

There's no question that you'll occasionally see those jagged edges (especially on really red things that are contrasted with their backgrounds when using internal codec when blown up). I noticed it...

C100 - grading Cine Log (sample & advice)

Hello all,

I'm loving the capabilities of the C100. Have just done my first short piece in Cine Log and am thrilled with its dynamic range (especially in the kind of lighting you see here). I'd...

Re: Time for sound setup -- is 30 minutes ridiculous?

I'm in between Don and Adrian but much closer to Don!

I don't do it all at once. Depends on the circumstance. I'd say I spend 10 minutes, all tolled, on audio set-up/break-down during ceremony,...

Re: To DVD or not to DVD?

This topic has completely drifted off course!

Back to the original question: I find that most of my couples want at LEAST one blu-ray. The DVDs go mainly to their parents. I'm getting more and...

Re: the grip hand strap. do you use it?

On the other hand, how many of you (former/current DSLR users) can't seem to get the thumb to stop wanting to press record? The T3i, for example, has its video/record button exactly where the C100's...

Re: the grip hand strap. do you use it?

I like the strap. But I'm still getting used to all of it. I can see where the strap would, at times, be a hindrance, but I like it overall.

Re: Accounting and Invoices

I know it sounds old school, but I just do a spreadsheet for all expenses/income. Quicken would do the trick, too, and I actually use both for redundancy. I figure out State Sales taxes and...

Re: C100: adjusting ISO \ Gain with the joystick

Nice. I, too, drop down to 1/30 for the darker interiors. Try to stick with 1/60 when it's light enough though (the supposed 180º rule, right?) but who knows if the brides would ever know...

Re: C100: adjusting ISO \ Gain with the joystick

Good question. I so often need to tweak the WB that I prefer it to remain an option in the joystick.

Just curious, why 1/30 as opposed to 1/60 at 30p?

I, too, lock down my shutter speed. But,...

Re: Anyone offer ONLY a highlight video?

I offer a single priced package:

2-minute trailer
12-15-minute short form/Highlights
Running Footage (ceremony, speeches, candid footage) also available on DVDs, maybe 60-80 mm.

The Trailer...
