Actually HDV files are the same size as DV files.
Start working with intermediate codecs though and the file size will blow out although codecs such those from Cineform don't create unmanageable...

I have seen one in the flesh, I think it's been around for a while, seem to recall it being rather expensive and not at all portable. Have you looked at the Cineform / Wafian box?

I should clarify that comment in fairness to Edirol, they'll handle +4dBM, probably quite a bit more before you overload the front end, it's just that I end up with the gain set way down which makes...

We're only using the 500 series, I really can't comment on the 100 series as we only tried that series prior to the Evolution 2 came out. We're also using the quite expensive omni mics from...

My only gripe with the R4s line inputs are they're too sensitive, feeding them +4 I'm having to use 10dB external pads, I guess better too much gain than too little. At that setting coming off 1/4"...

I'm using an Edirol R4 which for my money is a pretty decent effort however I've been trying to help out another R4 user who's finding he's hitting the noise floor in the mic preamps. He's recording...

Given the nature of the echo this may or may not work.
Make a copy of the track and invert, should get nothing.
Now add serious compression to the inverted track. Play with the compressor settings,...

If I was close micing instruments or voice then yes, I might be interested in a 'warm' sound however that's not the application in this case although it seems to be the market that most manufacturers...

We have around 8 Sennheiser G2 we mostly hire to the wedding guys, very good kit, if they'll withstand being hired out they'll take anything. However ours are the 500 NOT the 100 series. They're...

Looking for a good mic preamp

I've done a bit of research and I'm kind of amazed at the paucity of real specs, so far all I read about is 'warm' or 'tube' or some might even suggest 'low noise' but no actual figures. The only...

Another Syndeysider here, sorry to say but in our experience the Sennheisers leave the Sony gear for dead, we were able to get at least 10 times the range out of the Sennheisers compared to the Sony...

Certainly directly for us average guys the SDi feature isn't going to mean anything directly.
Indirectly it'll make a difference. The HD SDI output in combination with the genlock input makes this a...

I've got the R4 and am very happy with it, probably one of the best bits of kit I own. The lack of external battery input is an issue but that's not unique to the R4, I suspect Edirol never thought...
