Re: XL1 to bone yard, can I salvage the mic?

Greg & Chris,

That is not 3 pin XLR.....looks like 5 pin DMX? Could we combine the left/right channels and go mono so we don't need the extra pins?

Re: XL1 to bone yard, can I salvage the mic?

Chris, Thank you for the pictures and information! The most difficult part over here would be finding the EverReady 9V with the black cat on it from the sixty's!

Re: My mini-doc went viral!

Great job. What a cool idea. I am going to show it to my 15 year old son. He is in a high school film class. And of course he loves using my pro stuff. What kid wouldn't. But the point will be...

Re: XL1 to bone yard, can I salvage the mic?

I got the 5V info from the PDF repair manual posted above. I could be wrong but that is how it looked to me.

Re: XL1 to bone yard, can I salvage the mic?

Greg,
Your on, lets do it. Just so it does not go to wast. I will send you a PM with contact info.

The XL1 is junk. The audio pods scream white noise and the fire wire port has not worked in...

re: Tascam DR 05 or the Zoom H2N?

Please don’t take offence to this as none is intended. Why don’t you consider the next level up in audio recorders and get something with an XLR input. DSLR cameras shoot incredible video these...

Re: XL1 to bone yard, can I salvage the mic?

Rick, yes, that's the way it looks. And judging from the schematics in the manual that Trevor dug up the circuit to regulate the 5v is built into the camera not the mic. It was a good thought, but...

Re: XL1 to bone yard, can I salvage the mic?

Trevor, Thank you for digging that up.

Much of it is over my head but I was able to glean some information from it. Bad news. It looks to me like the Mic runs on 5 volts. Most of my mixers are...

XL1 to bone yard, can I salvage the mic?

I’m sure my old Canon XL1 has a low serial number because I picked it up before they became a rage. When it was new I marveled at the quality of the true stereo audio that was being recorded by a...

re: New Sony NEX-EA50EH Announcement

Nice shooting Ed, I like it. Even compressed for Vimeo it looked to me like the camera has a pretty good contrast range? Servo lenses are not known for holding focus well while zooming, in auto or...

Re: Travel equipment situation, stressing, please help.

Phil, How did I ever forget to include that one! And here is one more. Most men carry on a lap top backpack or brief case (I love my Swiss Gear Backpack). Some women carry on those fancy shopping...

Thank you Don. I felt I had to jump on this post because some of those things were learned the hard way. And yes, I miss the "easy" days. Our media credentials not only helped make things easier...

Re: Travel equipment situation, stressing, please help.

A few more tips:

Do not rely on just a standard luggage tag on the outside of your bags. Make sure every bag has your contact info clearly visible on the inside. Outside tags get ripped off all...

Re: Travel equipment situation, stressing, please help.

Paul,

I have several hundred flights and more than ten years on the road doing this. Tried it all. Carry on, motor freight for big anvil cases (disastrous results), shipping, and airline...

It was a dumb question. I knew the answer, I was just being hopeful.

Not only is Adobe On location near the end of it's life so are many other things I use. I have old systems built entirely...

Re: You can get a "GOOD" ENG/EFP mixer for $200.00

Gary,
I have been meaning to test and tweak the vu meter. Using a dancing needle again is pretty cool. And as you said the led light is there if you peak.

Stacy,
I goggled FP-42 and this link...

Re: Filming a Projector - Pulsing lines

Not in post. The problem must be corrected before you shoot. Here in the US most projectors and PCs are set for a 60hertz refresh rate. Yours may be different. Before the shoot if you try...

re: New Sony NEX-EA50EH Announcement

Ed,

Have you looked into an adapter for your Canon lenses for the EA50 yet? Or do you have one already? Your video says the Sony was at F2.8. I thought F3.5 was max for the kit lens? Did I miss...

You can get a "GOOD" ENG/EFP mixer for $200.00

Between me and my son this place is like a bone yard of “old” gear. Recently a friend of mine was looking around and said “OMG you have stuff everywhere, I’ll bet there is some hidden treasures here...
