Re: Matching T3i and 5D Image

I can understand that but it's more of a quality of image difference I'm seeing. I know that in low light I can't go higher than 800 ISO on the T3i where on the 5DM2 I can go to 1600 but I see the...

Re: Do you call the DJ/band ahead of time...

I also let the couple know in advance that I will need a soundboard feed from the DJ or band leader and ask them to let them know so that when I do call them, I'm just following up on the request...

Re: "Standard" but sturdy DVD cases?

I also had problems with the cheap bulk cases purchased on line. The plastic was so thin that many of the cases would be warped, I now get mine from Staples-more expensive but much sturdier.

Re: Smartphone Video Footage from Guests

good points - my thought was that the video quality would be secondary. The footage would be positioned somewhere in the edit as just what it is - "handy cam footage from guests" so the focus would...

Smartphone Video Footage from Guests

As more and more people are carrying around smartphones with decent video capabilities, I was wondering about the possibility of getting guests to contribute footage they may have shot during the...

Re: iRiver Replacement?

thanks for the feedback everyone. Whatever I get I need to fashion some sort of clip for it that would allow me to fasten to a waistband. I've had experience with officiants (especially women) who...

iRiver Replacement?

Well my last iRiver bit the dust (priest dropped it!). Any suggestions for a replacement? I would use mostly to record the wedding officiant. I hear a lot about the Olympus recorders. Anyone have a...

Re: Best Projector

Frankin - I just started doing SDEs and use this
InFocus IN146 Short Throw Projector IN146 B&H Photo Video
It's a "short throw" projector so you don't need a lot of room between the projector and...

Re: Time lapse

I did a sunrise timelapse for an SDE a few months ago. I chose to shoot it a couple of days before the wedding as I knew the day was going to be crazy enough. Plus, I didn't know if I would have...

Re: Wedding lighting

I no longer use any on-camera lighting for that reason - and, because I don't like the flat washed out look from a straight-on light source. I use a 250 Lowel Pro-light as my main light. I have it...

Re: DSLR for Weddings

Tyson - I shoot with the T3i. I think it's a good value as it has the same video guts as the bigger Canon brothers 7D and 5DmII. I'd save up for a 24-70 2.8 zoom (or similar focal length with another...

Re: Lens use for glidecam/merlin?

I use a 24 1.4 with Merlin, 5DMII and a Manfrotto quick release plate. It's such a well balanced combo that I end up using it all day from bride prep to reception.

Re: Do you use a steady cam for weddings?

Yes I do - what lens are you using? I acquired a Canon 24 1.4 because I heard others saying that this was a good lens combo for the 5D and Merlin. After using for several months I agree. I find it...

Re: Do you use a steady cam for weddings?

My Merlin is my favorite tool for weddings. I have it perfectly balanced with a 24mm prime and use it all day. I use it less for dramatic shots than I used to but I find it great to just hang with...

David - awesome job!.I did my first SDE a few months ago and have a new appreciation for what it takes to pull these off. How much total editing time did you end up having?.

Re: Capturing audio from DJ board

a bit off topic but I just did a wedding with a live band. The feed from the band's soundboard sometimes sounds sterile and the mix can be kind of wierd. When I'm dealing with a band, I'll aways mic...

Re: Photographer Schedule. What about Video Schedule?

I do the same thing- ask for 15 minutes. Sometimes I only get 5 but at least it's something. Also take advantage of the gaps in the photoshoot when the photog may be switching cameras or waiting for...

Re: Capturing audio from DJ board

Jeff - I give the DJ a cable that has RCA connectors on their end and a 1/4 jack on the other end that I feed into my zoom H4n. I set the zoom recorder for auto record level control to handle the...

Re: Comfort Level to go full DSLR

I did the cutover to all DSLR starting this year. The final hurdle for me was trusting the audio captured from my wireless into an audio recorder (Zoom H4n) vs direct into the camera. The focus issue...

Most of the couples I meet with don't ask questions about gear or HD or Blu-Ray or anything like that. By the time we've spoken, they've seen examples of my work and have decided that they like it...
