Re: how this effect done?
The background is still moving, to my eye on close inspection, so I don't think there is any masking, if that's what you mean. It looks like just back and forth ramping.
There's actually some...

Re: After Effects - Cartoon Stars
There's a lot of ways, some of them quite complicated. Much depends on what you're trying to put it into and how much flexibility you'd like when you get there.
The real basic one is to get a...

Re: S35 digi cinema camera for US$8000
Well, properly monied productions have their own concerns and treat hiring a camera like hiring a forklift or anything else, weighing up the service etc as part of the package. It's just part of the...

Re: S35 digi cinema camera for US$8000
Geez, if the s35 is perhaps $8 grand-ish how much are the smaller ones going to be? The s16 version claims a roll-free global shutter on the web site too.
These have a sort of niche...

Re: Slider Framerate?
You will get more ghosting with frame blending as that's how it works (creating the new frames by blending two or more together).
Obviously if the speed's a little too high there's not a great deal...

I know what you mean, but eh, it's just kids mostly (some of them quite old kids admittedly). They'll learn. As with those guys who make spite filled xtranormal videos about people who think...

Re: Alan Roberts test results available.
I do love me some creamy boke. But Film Burn! and those funny square lens flares!
Anyone who wants to run those out of town has my axe, bow, board with a nail in it etc.
Anyway, not knowing...

Re: Alan Roberts test results available.
Never seen it sacred. Lots of people do like it though. There's probably a production or two that use it almost completely (to the exclusion of everything else I couldn't say. Presumably they would...

Good luck. I think you'll do fine. Just keep in mind it is actually as tough as it seems, it's not just you ;)
There are easier lenses to operate than that one too. I usually start at the...

Re: Focusing question
If you had everything in Auto I guess the ISO is auto as well. That's the source of your graininess. Unfortunately there's not a lot to be done about it in many of those situations. Those two...

Curious. In that video that's pretty much the same thing I did, minus the blowing step.
He's talking about 'the camera remapping the sensor' though. There's nothing at all about that in the...

Re: Dead pixel
What's it look like?
I had a persistent white pixel that wouldn't go away with any auto cleaning. So I opened the mirror for manual cleaning, held the body upside down (or back side up, I suppose)...

Re: Lots of Noise
It'd be better if you could somehow give an example.
No offense, but there are plenty of people around who I find to be anal beyond all reason about noise, which makes it hard to gauge what one...

Re: New lens for NightLife Video
I've never tried it personally, and there are other considerations, but I think I ended up going for the Sigma over the Canon 28mm because its resolution reviews were pretty bad at wide open (and...

Re: Is the C300 worth all the hype?
Is this about the price again?
It is, isn't it.
Might need an "I hate the C300 list price" forum at this rate.
I kid, I kid.
But I must be reading the wrong blogs or something. The real...

Re: Focusing question
How fine that is depends on the usual stuff; brand and model of lens, focal length, aperture. But you can end up with very fine adjustments necessary in a lot of situations. Some are better than...

Re: Focusing question
The 60d (and most dslrs I think) uses phase detection for focus, which judges the image on the sensor in clever ways against a copy from a slightly different angle.
