Quality of footage greatly affects edit times

I had a real crappy reception (lights dimmed way too low) so I had to spend about 10-20 hours on just the reception.... tweakign color settings, changing brightness / contrast, choosing only the best...

I suppose that is a big question... I want manual controls (so I can quickly fiddle) over a native 16:9 camera (or failing native 16:9, then very good 4:3 that can be cropped and not introduce too...

Heck I still use stills in my videos because some times the viewer needs to focus their attention on what I want them to see and the best way to do that is a nice big 5MP picture with a good Ken...

Video editing is not beyond a "laptop" assuming you are willing to accept a masive laptop (aka mobile desktop). My Alienware MJ11-7700 has 150GB of space, just enough for a single project at a time...
