Re: 12X More Info than the human eye can process?

The real benefit here is to gather all the needed information in regards to luminance and color with a single pixel instead of how we do it now via groups of pixels.

Quad Display/Switch Question

I was playing around with the quad display today with v2.11 firmware. Having the buttons to switch between full screen displays is an improvement. I'm curious why the output mirrors the internal...

Re: Exposing RAW Slog2?

I would recommend keeping it between 45% and 55% depending on which end of the luminance curve you want to protect most.

I expose for about 48% when using shooting straight 709 gamma.

Re: Exposing RAW Slog2?

The best way to do it in my opinion is to use a grey card and the waveform function of the 7Q.

Unless you are using a LUT the grey card should be exposed to 32% on the waveform.

The white...

Re: Dry erase Markers for film slates?

I use the Expo original markers. They are the cleanest erasing on my slate.

The low odor versions of the markers don't erase well at all.

Ah. I guess the retailers prices haven't caught up yet.

Re: Price drop

Price drop?

The price I just looked up for B&H is the same as it was when it was launched.

Did the price overseas change?

Re: FAA approves commercial permits for drones with cameras

I would suggest anyone interested in UAV operations take a close read on the requirements placed on the "approved" operators. This should give us some insight into the rules they could be pushing out...

Re: How to give your camera some extra stops of DR

Davinci Resolve does a good job with tasks such as this too.

Rendering time isn't too bad with a fast computer.

Re: New Sony FS7 4K XDCAM at IBC 2014

Using LOG is a different beast than shooting 709 based curves. You need to understand the correct way to expose it to get all the DR the camera offers. That will require more work in post to create...

Re: Flicker

Have you read much on panning speed/frame rate/shutter speed combinations?

If not do some searching on your favorite search engine and read up on it.

This may get you started:

Re: FAA may allow movie production with 7 companies.

Does anyone see the irony in this with the FAA loosing at least 2 cases against it in regards to its authority to regulate UAVs?

Re: Other compressed bitrates?

Possible but not so useful for me.

Its a waste of space to record a talking head interview at 10 bit 220mB/s when the camera outputs 8bit in HD. Using the 7q as backup is still a waste of drive...

Other compressed bitrates?

Having the highest bitrates available recording is great. Will there be more modest bitrates coming for those times when the ultimate in quality is not needed?

I downloaded and read the owners manual for the camera and it looks like your only option is a mechanical/electrical hack.

Re: Buying 6d

I've not had any issues with B&H with anything I've purchased from them new or used.

When I did have a problem with a Phantom UAV they sent me out a new one no questions asked.

Re: New Sony FS7 4K XDCAM at IBC 2014

There is no speedbooster for APS-C lenses because their image circle is already sized for APS-C (approximately S35) sensors.

Re: NEX-FS700 4K Acquisition

You don't need the interface unit if you are using the 7q. You only need to make sure your FS700 is at firmware v3 or higher. The SDI out on the FS700 is all you need to feed the 7q.

Re: NEX-FS700 4K Acquisition

4k is external recording only. Nothing inside the camera can record 4k.

Re: 120p all the time

Exactly. It eliminates the stroby look of the high shutter speed. It looks natural and not processed as if you were using a motion blur effect in post. So if you want to shoot 120 you can and still...
