Re: Taping a recorder to a microphone

The audio from this method is exceptional. It really is! Sadly though - it's probably not professional looking enough.

I've had a few run-ins with venues who are unhappy with this request.

I...

Bridal Prep - Do you ever ask for music to be turned off?

Basically as the title says. Applies mainly to those of us who soundtrack our edits but still want some ambient noise to come through.

I personally have never asked as I feel it might make the...

Re: Nebula 4000 lite

John - thanks for your input. I'm going to fly my Sony a600 on it when it comes rather than my A7S. With weddings I can't be having to mount cameras on/off so the a600 will stay on it permanently....

Re: How I hate DVDs....

Whatever about the superiority of Bluray over DVD. The fact is, sooner than you might like it - nobody will be interested in a disc of any kind which can be lost/burnt/scratched and not easily...

Re: How I hate DVDs....

Personally I think the tech industry only has itself to blame. They always rely on hype and 'lust buying' to satisfy their greed by overpricing.

Time and time again with innovative technology, you...

Re: How I hate DVDs....

Seriously? Maybe it's geography. I don't actually know anybody who watches movies on Bluray. They may own Bluray players but if they do it probably was upselling by the electrics store rather than...

Re: How I hate DVDs....

I had my first couple complain about quality. All I could say is 'sorry but thats just DVD'. I don't provide Bluray and the couple didn't have a Bluray player anyways.

Still get clients asking "Is...

Re: 1st dances

Bit late to the discussion - but here's my set up.

Two full dancefloor autofocus cams on light stands from two different angles. I normally like to get one from high behind the band just for...

Music licensing expense and time

Is anyone else getting fed up with music licensing. I still to this day begrudge forking out. It all adds up over a year of bookings and it's one thing I never factor in to my business outgoings.

Re: Anyone score any black Friday deals?

I picked up a Sony a6000 (which I planned to buy anyways) from Jessops for £450 with kit lens. Cheaper than DigitalRev.com and with UK warranty! I'm happy.

Re: Nebula 4000 lite

Ha Paul,

I think we are on a very similar quest as I was also looking at either the Nebula 4000 Lite or the Steadygim15.

I like that the Steadyjim 15 has feet so it can be set down easily but I...

Re: Sound - Should I just go down the wireless route?

Those look good Art! I particularly like the audio bracketing feature. Are they really any better though that the little Sony recorders I already have? Who knows.

They would need to be somehwere...

Re: Sound - Should I just go down the wireless route?

Peter,

As much as I appreciate your advice, you may have inadvertently scared me off a little! I'm just not an audio tech in the slightest!

The venue in question did not have the box with...

Sound - Should I just go down the wireless route?

I've been struggling to improve my sound quality during speeches for some time now.

I had been using tabletop recorders for the first few years which simply wasn't doing the job well enough for my...

Re: Nebula 4000 lite

I attempted to order at the weekend actually. But they had paypal issues and then it was out of stock. New stock expected on 28th.

I'd rather you took this thread down and stopped drawing...

Re: One point of failure vs many?

For ceremony and speeches I have two much cheaper video cameras on light stands rolling continuously on wide angles. This way a B&G can't complain that I never provided their wedding. This is vital...

Re: What size USB do I need?

Thanks guys for the info and for the spreadsheet Roger.

I've went with 8GB. Perhaps 16GB would have given peace of mind, but I have to cut costs as much as I can. I'm getting all the elements of...

Re: What size USB do I need?

It's a bit frustrating. I distinctly remember some basic software back in the day (Windows Movie Maker??) which allowed you to render by telling it what size it had to be. I wish this were an option,...

Re: What size USB do I need?

There are calculators out there. Bit rate can obviously be adjusted to get under the required file size. I just wondered if it would be sub-par in terms of quality. I guess I just need to do a few...
