Its the churches 125th Anniverary. They wanted to share some history and give some insight into the church. The project has been in production for 6 months on and off. Maybe this was a bad idea. Since your not able to see the whole thing. I cant aleast let you see the intro.

Interesting 16 year old talent
 

Hello,
My daughter Kelly introduced me to a friend of hers that is a budding young talent at 16. He has done a number of spoof pieces he has posted on the Internet in QuickTime. Some of the music used in pieces have been his compositions. If you click his home site, you will find merchandise that, I am told, are somewhat ficticious but are certainly creative.

When you have a chance, go on by and give his movies a look see and offer him words of encouragement.

BTW, Nick Brilleaux is the tall thin, lanky kid in the vids. Like a lot of producers on a very tight budget he has to both act and hope the camera man does what he tells him to do.

The ending scene reminded more of an opening scene to a movie about Joan of Arc. I liked it for the most part, I thought the pacing was nice. The only problem I have with it was the superimposing of full frames over one another, but I usually never do like that. Very few times I have seen it done when I like it. But yes, It was 'impactful'. I'm sure they will love it.

Their "Closed Water" short was pretty funny. The underwater shots were also very good in that video. He's definately got talent.

What's also interesting is the limited amount of equipment he has. I'm not even sure what kind of mic'ing he has.

My daughter tells me when he's doubling as an actor he sets up the shots and then instructs one of his friends how to move the camera. I believe for the most part he's all self taught.

BTW, I'm a semi-pro D.P. and director of animated and live short narratives. I've shot with 16mm b&w and color, the XL-1, XL-1S, and JVC GY-DV500.

My camera is becoming obsolete, however. I'm envying some of the progressive and HDV cameras appearing on the scene. Time to upgrade soon. :-)

Overall I am happy with the video, there are a couple things I dont like about it. In the beginning, the shot is very unstable, I did this on purpose to give the feeling of walking up to him. Now I'm starting to think I should have used my steadycam. And there is a clip in there where he is doing a 540 in a backyard mini ramp and I cut his head off a bit. Other than that I like the way it came out.

I thought that was awesome. Great footage, and that kid is good. I was falling out laughing at the end from the 'outtakes'...looked like he ate $hit there a couple of times.

Say, how'd you do that cartoon graphic at the beginning? I liked how it went from a drawing to an animation. That's pretty slick.

Thanks! To do the animation I drew the background on a sheet of paper and scanned it, and then on another sheet of paper I drew a biker and scanned it. Then I used AE to put it together frame by frame. AE was also used to merge it with the video clip.

awesome! fun stuff man. i love that at the end you put all the wipeouts and falls, the whole time im watching the beginning im going, come on this guy must eat it sometime!

Colin - it seems like you guys have some great production talent. From all the clips online, I'd say I enjoy your work the best as a director. I thought their clips were great looking but some of the concept were just weak, like the music video with the kid who builds the bomb or the short film with the war flashback. It almost felt a bit campy. Everything looks amazing though. I think that you guys will do some great stuff, but what you guys need are some great writers to work with. Everything else is top notch. Get a good story and there's no limit to where you guys can take it. Best of luck.

I think you are well on your way for a 16 year old. My only comment would be to watch the shakey camera moves. I was most impressed with the sound. What did you use to make the music?

I wrote and performed it on an Alesis DG8 and a Roland RD-600. I recorded it and edited it into Adobe Audition. NO LOOPS were used. Everything about the soundtrack is COMPLETELY original. :D

I shot the film on a Digital8 camera and I recorded the audio on an Audio Technica AT897 Shotgun mic.

I edited it with Sony Vegas 5 and special effects were done with Adobe After Effects 6.


I actually just started making films last year (2003). I hope to make a career of it someday. I never went to filmschool or anything...learned it all on my own. :D:D:D

EDIT: There is in fact an Armed Conflict prequel that is in planning stages right now. It explains the entire backstory of Arnold Donovan and his relationship with the Kovach family. More information will be made once it becomes official. It's still in consideration "idea" stage right now, but it's really gonna be good. Just thought i'd share that with you all.

Hey all, just looking for some feed back on the latest Music Video I directed/Edited. The band is called MY FAVORITE.

We shot this on the Pana. DVX100. Some of it was in a studio with a rather large light kit: a few 1k's, lots of diffusion. Most of it was pretty minimal though, production wise. Finished on FCP HD.

The clip is still downloading so I haven't seen all of it.. BUT, the first shots doesn't seem to fit "lightwise or stylewise".. The shots from the "studio" aer VERY nice and goodlooking. It's seems to me tough that some of the cafe scenes in the beginning are a bit out of pace.. (The drummer is not drumming to that particular beat sometimes I think??)

Overall job welldone. Nice work!

Nice, light, silly, a little emo. Not bad at all. It doesn't hurt that the band are all cute and whatnot.

In a couple of cases--drums--the video and sound seemed to slip synch. Dunno if that's a player fault, or intrinsic to the video.

Beautiful look. Maybe I shouldn't have gone with the VX2100...

Under films sectiong: 'Utopia Remake'

Nice editing & composition. Really. And some interesting things going on in your story-telling.

Good luck deciding. If you have the choice of doing two things, and you love both, I would choose the better-paying one. Even that choice may not be so obvious, but that's OK.

I was a computer programmer for several years, made some money, and then went into acting full time. I liked both, but I love acting.

But the worse thing you could do at this point--at age 17 going on 18--is to start thinking that the choice you make is final and forever.

I just saw your demo and REALLY liked it.
I was afraid you had approached the subject in a "normal journalistic" way, but you surprised me.
I love the use of split-screen and the exciting story is just more interesting the more you know of it( the title-cards)!
VERY good job.

I am a big documentary fan and I am working on 3 myself at the time. I am very critical to doc films, but this one certainly has my interest and applaud.
