Junipero: The Last Son of Celestie
Hello folks, I finally shot some footage for my short film Junipero: The Last Son of Celestie. It is a prequel of my previous short film "Junipero" which can be seen here: http://www.citizencine.com/junipero/
Will upload some footage here soon, meanwhile... here are some screenshots. http://www.citizencine.com/films/celestie/01.png http://www.citizencine.com/films/celestie/02.png http://www.citizencine.com/films/celestie/03.png http://www.citizencine.com/films/celestie/04.png http://www.citizencine.com/films/celestie/05.png |
Nice shots dude. Can't wait to see the real thing.
Is that XL2? 35mm Adapter? Keep them coming. |

|
But you shot Junipero with XL2 right? That was awesome.
So which camera you like better A1 or XL2? |

|
Sweet!! What did you edit with? How long was the shoot. Great work. I notice some Manhattan shots, did you need permit?
|
Hi Danny,
Everything is done in FCP and After Effects. I have been shooting for 2,5 days, If the camera is handheld you don't need permit to shoot. |
Hmm.I can't wait to see the finished product.
I have access to XL2 and after seeing Junipero I decided to use it but now I think I will wait for your thing. |
Beautiful! Confident. Dynamic. Every shot a gem. Images compliment the content perfectly. Top notch! Inspiring!

10 Films 10 Weeks Screening (NYC)
So, I made these Ten Films in Ten Weeks. I posted them all online, and now I want to have a party.
I'll be showing the Ten Films in amazing full NTSC resolution on the big screen at the Millennium Film Workshop, 66 East 4th Street between Bowery and 2nd Avenue in Manhattan, at 8pm sharp on Friday, February 9th. Come see! Closest subway stations are the 2nd Avenue F and the Broadway-Lafayette 6 (and D) stops. I'll be adding a tiny bit of bonus material, and total running time should be about sixty-five minutes. (I'm asking for a $5 donation to defray screening room expenses, but if for some reason you can't afford that, come anyway.) Michael |
Cinemascope HD demoreel
http://users.telenet.be/wespproductions/new-page-9.htm
Feel free to tell me what you think. I've been experimenting with web-codecs, but finally I found something that should play rather fine with most. I'm still looking for a solution to stream the video that preserves more of the original HD quality - so any help on this is welcome... |
Something was wrong with it in my browser. I was getting a small 4x3 window and everything to the right seemed to be cut off.
Using Firefox. EDIT: Played fine in Explorer. Also, the music seemed a little over the top for what you were showing. The footage was very nice though. Just my 2 cents. Mike |
werner , i'm curious to know how you got a true 2:35:1 file?. I assume you are shooting in HDV 16:9 and doing something to it in post or in the export.
Could you run us through your process? Andy. |
Glad I could help out in your decision making :)

Hi all,
I'm reviving this old thread just to say that Headshot was selected at the Hollywood DV Festival in March. It will be shown at the Fairfax Cinema Theater in Hollywood, California on March 26th 2007. That's great news, just wanted to share the info. |
a
Hey.
When the manager accidentaly shoots the actor in the head and says:"Are you ok?" - thats quite funny. |
Hi Michael, I wish I was in the City, as I'd love to drop by and check this out. Please take a few pictures! Thanks for the invitation and hope it goes great for you. Best regards,
|
Yes indeed, shot in native 16/9 (720 25p). In post (vegas 7) it is cropped - obviously you need to check frame by frame if you need to change the portion to crop in order to get the right framing... Finally, the end result is an 1280x544 uncompressed file.

Tribute to Tommie Smith & John Carlos
Hey Guys:
I didn't shoot this with my DVX, however I wanted to share this with you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-ffD0Cr2F8 |
looks good, had the feel of a nooma video.
|
First very short nature/critter demo
I'm a newb at this so any constructive criticism is more than welcome.
http://www.thehdepot.com/demo1hi.wmv (High Res, 1280x720, 40MB) http://www.thehdepot.com/demo1lo.wmv (Low Res, 640x360, 8MB) Thanks, Bruce... |
Bruce:
Nice !! Hey post what you shot it with. Also, take note of UWOL challenge in the Under Water Over Land section of this board.... We will be seeing another in couple of weeks.... |
Oh yeah, duh, that would help. All those shots were with a Sony HVR-Z1U, standard lens, cheap tripod, edited in Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 with no effects/color correction/sharpening/etc. Thinking about it again I guess I should try to make everything "pop" a little more so perhaps I should go back and color correct/sharpen/etc.
Thanks for the info on the contest - I'll check it out. Bruce... |
Popped just fine on my monitor. I'm shooting an FX1, but learning a bit about it and starting to do some of this outdoor stuff too... Nice to see such great stuff out of the Sony!!

Stanley Hotel from novel "The Shining" teams with EPFF
The Estes Park Film Festival (EPFF) is proud to announce the addition of the historic Stanley Hotel as a screening venue for their second annual event this September 14-16. Independent short films in the Suspense/Horror genre will be showcased at the Stanley’s famous Concert Hall on Sunday, September 16th. The Stanley Hotel is famous among film aficionados for its inspirational role in Stephen King's novel "The Shining".
Known for its architecture and magnificent setting, the Stanley Hotel has been an Estes Park landmark since 1909. The hotel has been featured in film and television as one of America’s most haunted hotels, with numerous stories from visitors and staff. The EPFF is headquartered at the historic Park Theatre in downtown Estes Park. Both the Stanley Hotel and Park Theatre are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. “Independent filmmakers now have a unique opportunity to present their films at both of these one-of-a-kind venues.” says Sean Doherty, Co-Director of the EPFF. “Imagine the excitement for the filmmaker, seeing their work screened at these landmarks of cinematic history.” Last year’s EPFF was an incredible success, with over 1500 movie-goers enjoying 35 independent films from across the country. This year’s event will feature an expanded line-up of independent feature films, documentaries, short films, and student films, with an awards gala on the final night. The Estes Park Film Festival is dedicated to providing a platform for filmmakers from around the world to screen their newest productions in the relaxing and creative atmosphere of Estes Park, Colorado. The goal of the EPFF is to entertain, inspire, and advance a greater appreciation of independent film. The Estes Park Film Festival will also serve as a fundraising event to help renovate and restore The Historic Park Theatre to its original cinematic elegance. For more info about the festival or to submit your own film, visit: www.estesparkfilm.com |

The Bridge < New Short
Hi there, My name is Freddy, and I am new here on the forums. Looks like you all have a neat set up here. I just thought i would say hi and show you my latest short film.
Its called THE BRIDGE and its 5 minutes long. Its shot with a Canon XL2, edited in Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r35reUDILh4 YOUTUBE http://www.fcrabbath.com/rough.mov QUICKTIME 80MB It's an odd one, but i enjoyed making it. Oh and this is my site showcasing my other films http://www.fcrabbath.com/ Fred Hope you enjoy it. :) NOTE: Music is temp til' the composer is done. |
wow, very, very good for only a month or two, what camera did you use?and the audio is it actually from the footage?or you recorded separetly?cause it sound very clear for being inside the car, good work man!!!
|
me too,too bad i have to work, but if you ever have another screening, please dorp me an email, jblackroom@gmail.com thanks!
|
The party was a blast. Sadly, I took no pictures. I spent too much time noisereducing, transcoding, and cheesebuying, so when the final bits rattled through the ol' video projector, I just wanted to drink with my friends, old and new.
The movies seemed to be well received, and I may have another screening in my future. In any case, I highly recommend the folks at Millennium Film Workshop; they're very nice, and the screening room is great for the video- (and film-) maker on a budget. Michael |
Trigger
Hey everyone, I just recently completed a 50 minute acton-drama called "Trigger," follwing the story of four thieves as they attempt to rob a bank in New York. I created a myspace page for it--check it out and let me know what you think. I'll be posting more information on the film soon.
http://myspace.com/triggerfilm Thanks alot! Brian |
Click on the link above, then when the 'file factory' page opens - click on the blue text in the middle of the page (around a third of the way down) that says Download for free with FileFactory Basic
The page will refresh and now click the link that says 'Click here to begin your download ' which is again in blue and again in the middle of the page. |
Thanks a lot for the positive feedback!
But I am looking for some constructive criticism as well. :) I used a Sony Z1U, a Lowel DV light kit, a Sony UWP-C1 lavalier mic, and a Audio-Tcehnica AT897 (for background noise). I figured that since 1/2 the video is audio I better have something that can pick it up pretty good. |
Another music video....
Made with a panasonic gs250 and gs120...on a powerbook with FCP and Shake. The band is "The Welcome Matt" and the song is "Longing" from right here in San Francisco. They are playing at Bottom of the Hill on 02/22/07. Come check them out.

The Green Bench Show: Relationships
Just in time for Valentine's Day.
Check out the latest Green Bench sketch comedy show. http://www.greenbench.tv/videos/Relationships.wmv My favorite show so far. Hopefully you all will like it. There's one or two skits you may not get unless your a hip hop fan, but then again, I know my target demographic. ;) Anyways, enjoy. Boxlor 3
Here's the link to a video I finally put the finishing touches on. I wish Livevideo wouldn't compress it any, but that's how those sites (like YouTube) work. Please note, this is a long video (22 minutes), and it's about a Superhero ... that's a box.
http://www.livevideo.com/video/hawkt...teration-.aspx Wow, that's a long link... |
Thanks for the comments. I'm glad you found it funny. I had a great time making it. As normal I filmed it all by myself. This time, however, I also tried to adhere to the 3-point lighting scheme. Considering the limitations and difficulties inherent in acting, directing and lighting, I'm quite pleased with the results.

Surf Video Part1

Did you shoot it in HD and downconvert in any way to then go WMV? I kind of avoided seriously considering HD due to editing and workflow considerations, instead I purchased a Panasonic 3CCD PV GS500 which cost a lot less and I am pleased with it, but am wondering if I really should have "raided" funds and gone for something like the Sony you did this with. Wow, beautiful work here Bruce!
How long have you been making films?! This was very nice! ~Gabriel |
