New Green Bench Videos

Greetings everyone,

I’m proud to present three new videos. The first is a lovely music video. The story was written by the artist, which turned out pretty good to be his first time really writing. After the fact, I wished we could have done just a few things different with the storyline (the stuff with the cops came out beautiful), but overall, I have no complaints about this video.

DVX100B
Glidecam 2000 (few shots)
CC with Adobe Premiere
Oktava Mic

Interesting story, this video was actually shot before my last one (Down South Leanin’), but I had to borrow a few concepts from this video for the other one, so if they look somewhat similar, now you know!

Also, we just did a funny little introduction for my university’s talent show. It encompasses our musical talent.

Last, but not least, a short skit we did last weekend called, “The Friend Zone”.

Enjoy! Feedback is appreciated!

very nice looking footage there Steve. What lens did you use? sdi? to tape?

Mike Horrigan May 5th, 2007 11:40 AM

You know what? That was pretty damn funny. I got a kick out of it anyway... the doctor was pretty good as well.

Good stuff!

Pillow Humpin' -funny!

Hey all I just thought I'd share a little video I made a couple years ago. This won't impress you at all but it will make you laugh. FOR COMIC RELIEF PURPOSES ONLY! It will be good for you after much forum jumping.

This was shot on a one chip panny and edited with a less than stellar program. The timing of the music and some of the shots cold have been better but the program I was editing with (I won't name names), was...well, painful to use.

I was home for the weekend and this helped subdue the boredom for a couple hours. This is in no way indicative of my work, just screwing around. WATCH IT though, it is funny as hell. Oh and by the way, the dog is female- you'll see why I point that out! Enjoy.

Marcus Marchesseault May 7th, 2007 05:10 AM

Great use of light, particularly in "Janine". Everything looked a bit magical but didn't feel fake. Did you use any other software to do effects and/or color correction?

Marcus Marchesseault May 7th, 2007 05:18 AM

I used to think that people that gave Prozac to their dogs were frivolously wasting money. I was wrong to think that.

Marcus Marchesseault May 7th, 2007 05:33 AM

Good stuff. Can you mount a camera on one of the bikes? Even if you did a re-shoot after an event of a bike going around the course it would add a nice dimension to the video. The editing was good in that it was quick enough to keep up the excitement but not jarring.

Aram Bauman May 7th, 2007 11:49 AM

Tonight is the first viewing yall!!!

Marcus Marchesseault May 7th, 2007 05:33 PM

I don't get IFC but I'm trying to get a friend to record it on his HD TIVO.

"Jeremy's Wednesday" (short film shot with DVX)

This is a short film I shot and edited.

I'm literally repulsed 5 seconds in by the food. I think it was filmed nicely, I wasn't too big on the angle used on the woman though. A little too close and at a weird angle. Camera work might have been just a little shakey.

I thought the audio was done very well though. You use a shotgun mic, or just the one on board the DVX?

Shoreline Broadcast News Opener

In my 10th grade Broadcast Speech class if we don't have anything to do I like to shoot funny little intros for the daily announcements, this is one of them.

Chris C. Collins May 8th, 2007 03:19 PM

I'll be honest, I turned it off before it got any further than the food close-ups. Definitely an acquired taste.

Chris Tangey May 8th, 2007 05:23 PM

light queries

Marcus, Thanks for your comment, if you would like to see much higher res versions (20mb.) go to http://www.alicespringsfilmtv.com.au/welcome.shtml
and select sample videos from the menu at left.

I can't take credit for the great light, that goes to the man above, or as a friend of mine calls him, "the big gaffer"! We do use 2 large reflectors on talent, home made aluminum frames with silver spandex material pegged over them. These are about 6' X 10' each. (We also use a home-made dolly with skate board wheels mounted on plastic pipe)

We have beautiful light here in Alice Springs, right in the middle of a continent the size of mainland US, but with no pollution. All effects were FCP and kept to a minimum, the old KISS principle, especially suited to country music videos.

If you have any queries on specific shots and the effects used on any video, please ask and I'll look at the timeline to refresh my memory!.
Aloha.

Marcus Marchesseault May 8th, 2007 06:03 PM

What is the name of the program as seen on a TV listing? "Red Meat" isn't showing up in the TIVO schedule. Is it called "Media Lab"?

Benjamin Hill May 8th, 2007 11:29 PM

Actually the audio was roomy on a couple shots, but who cares.

I thought the guy's costume and acting was hysterical, loved the over the top cliches and absurdity of it. Reminded me of the first office scene in "Joe vs. the Volcano"

The girl got way too much screen time for me, and I'd prefer a shorter version, but I dug it nevertheless. The disgusting close-ups on the food were a great touch.

Jaime Valles May 9th, 2007 12:19 PM

Just a quick update to let you all know that the movie is now available for pre-order through our website:

www.casicasi.com

If you use the link on our website, you will be directed to the page on Amazon with our movie for sale. By using that specific link, we get an extra comission from Amazon, and you get their very low price (currently only $13.99!), so everybody wins!

Also, I should add that you can put it on your Netflix or Blockbuster cues! I'm sure you'll all get a kick out of it. Thanks for your continued support!

Jaadgy Akanni May 9th, 2007 02:09 PM

Looking forward to seeing your movie, Jaime (i know, shame on me for not having seen it yet) I'm sure I'll enjoy it a lot. Te felicito por todo lo logrado hasta ahora. Keep it up. Something tells me you and I will be contenders in future cinema festivals with movies shot with the RED ONe...;-)

Chris Harris May 9th, 2007 09:08 PM

That's hilarious! Couple of things to look out for though. The volume difference between the classroom scene and the hallway scene is huge. I understand why the difference is there, but it shouldn't be that big. I cranked up my speakers all the way to hear what they were saying, only to get blasted by "I AM A JEDI! I AM A JEDIIIII!". Other than that, it was funny. Solid piece, my friend.

Rodrigo Gil Medina May 10th, 2007 12:46 PM

First time showing my work.

Hello, I've been around this forum for some time, and I decided it's time to show some of my work. The following clip is a promotional video for a Tequila, it was shot with a Sony Z1, all the footage was captured to the cineform codec and edited in Premiere Pro, FX work done in AFX and Lightwave. Let me know what you think about it! This clip shows my hardest ever camera work; shooting a fighting bull... I ran a lot that day.

Download a MPEG file from: ftp.8cho.com.mx Login: guest@8cho.com.mx pass:guest

Duncan Craig May 11th, 2007 10:22 AM

I managed to login but can't see any files, perhaps it's my Mac.
A direct link to a non-passworded file would be better.

Also Mpegs are a little outdated, assuming it's an Mpeg1 file. A quicktime mp4, windoze media or flash file would be better quality and easier on your servers too I expect.

Duncan.

Charity project shot in Africa

Here is a taster of the project I am working on for a UK charity that builds, equips and staffs schools in Kenya.

They needed a hastily assembled piece for a charity golf day yesterday and this is what I came up with. I think it gives a good flavour of what the Trust does and also serves as a great memento of an extraordinary few weeks in Kenya in March.

Shot using a Canon XL2 + stock 20x lens with an AT835B shotgun. Edited on Sony Vegas for playback on a TV - NOT the web. Sorry but this should be in widescreen but I can't seem to get the settings right in Squeeze!

The full length documentary - my first - is a good few months away. It's my intention to keep the same style in the full length piece. I'd love to hear whether you think it works or not.

25Mb, approx 10 mins, Windows Media Player.

Cheers.

Vito DeFilippo May 11th, 2007 09:09 PM

Hey Rodrigo,

I don't speak Spanish, so I can't comment on the promo, but I thought it was beautifully shot. Very nice lighting in the product shots, nice crane work, beautiful composition. Well done. Looks like you had a bit of a budget for talent, set, rehearsal, etc which helps.

Just found it a bit long, but that could be a language issue. Did you just do camera, or edit as well?

Anyway, looks great.

Rodrigo Gil Medina May 12th, 2007 10:50 AM

Hey Vito,

I used to live in Montreal, I lived at the plateau mont royal. Amazing city, everybody is so helpful.

Thanks a lot for your comments. Answering your question, yes I did all the work (editing, camera, CG) I had one guy helping me with the crane and the dolly and also to carry equipment. About the budget, we spent around 6,500.00 US dlls. making this video, that budget includes equipment rental, talent, locations and my salary. Remember that everything is cheaper here in Mexico, so yes the budget let us work comfortably.

I really miss eating at Basha....

My doccodrama "Crooked Features"

This is something I completed in 2005, and was broadcast on SKY here in the UK about a month ago.

Hopefully it'll raise a few laughs.

Yeah, its called media lab. The thing is, they only showed clips from it. :( Oh well, better than nothing.

Action Reel (sony hc1)

Hi all. I've made an action reel with the sony hc1 hdv-camera. I'd like to get some feedback (any feedback really) about how it works/doesn't work.

http://hmcindie.pp.fi/actionreel/

It's in divx format - high and low quality versions.

Tunde Anjorin May 13th, 2007 12:31 PM

Mikko, Just saw your reel, loved it loved it!!! There were some pretty wicked moves there man.... The score you used in the begining, and the end what movie is it from??

Also liked the gag reel at the end... Once again great work!!!

Chris Harris May 13th, 2007 05:45 PM

I grabbed the high quality version. Not only is the quality of your footage amazing, but your subjects' martial arts skills are top notch! I also have an HC1, and your action reel just proves that it's not the tools you use, but what you do with them that makes the difference. Awesome reel!

Winter Surfing/Bodyboarding In New Jersey

I finally edited some video shot from this previous December with FCE HD. All video was shot on a Panasonic AG-DVC30. All color corrections were done in post. No filters used. Tell me what you think, all comments are appreciated. The video won't be up for long. Its about 70 MB in size. Thanks for taking the time to view my work.

*EDIT Site Bandwidth exceeded sorry*

I dug it

I dug it. That was real cool. The music was perfect. Nice job.

Mike Andrade May 14th, 2007 12:01 AM

Rodrigo,

Muy buen hecho. Very nice composition and camerawork. What type of crane did you use?

Ulrik [fC] May 14th, 2007 01:22 AM

Really like it ! There is so much passion in performing the stuff, that it doesn't matter at all that some moves are not that good :).

And good to know what camera you used !

Keep up the good work
Ulrik

Hey Miguel!

I used a Kessler Crane. They sponsor this forum, that's how I got to know it. It performed great! I have a lot of amazing takes from the agave fields. To bad I ended up using just one (the last one).

Marcus Marchesseault May 14th, 2007 05:34 PM

I thought it was shot well and it really seemed like the people were genuine about their feelings about the charity. It didn't feel like a staged-for-the-camera promo to butter up suckers so they donate more money. It also showed that the children seemed happy to be at school. I like sincerity and truth in promotions. The truth, even if not all pretty, always tells a better story.
