Hehe - funny. :-D

However, the sound was kind of strange. Didn't the guy say something? I could hear nothing but the song at the end.

Nice. I like the mix of close and distant shots. The long lens of the rider flying up and disappearing behind hills was really cool.

Its up on yousendit as i dont have any web space to put it up on. honest opinions! oh and i used the wrong clip for the shots in the bar where you can see the lines of the composite of the light plates, thats been changed now. Cheers.

The camera work is great. What came into my mind watching that as a demo reel that includes corporate video is, "How about his audio?". I don't know why, but I wanted to hear some dialog to make sure it would be clearly audible and not mushy with lots of room reflections.

Also, the effect in the opening shot partly covered/blurred your company name.

Mark Shea May 30th, 2007 04:09 AM

thanks for your comments Robert.
I am still using a beat up old XL1, sennheiser ME66 shotgun mic and edit on a mac (FCP) Ready to upgrade camera, but waiting for a 1/3 chip cam (like the panasonic) that captures uncompressed HD to a hard drive or other solution (such as p2) and has a big zoom lens (16x - 20x) With what I do, a big zoom allows me to get candid street shots without unwanted attention. I also used a lightweight velbon tripod, hasnt got a true fluid head, and really too light for the XL, but light in the backpack. On the camino http://www.overlander.tv/2007/good-w...f-saint-james/, I got my gear weight down to 18 kilos, that included everything!!

nice site that vagabonding one, thanks for the link

I liked it. It was very well put together.

Perhaps the text could have remained on the screen a moment longer for all of them except the last one. That one seemed to last longer.

Trailer for an indie book/movie

Here's a short trailer I worked on for an author named Michael T. Owens. He was featured on yahoo news a couple of years ago. The theme of the trailer is based on his book "A Dream Come True." Anyway, here's the link:

I agree with Marcus, I could not clearly read your company name, maybe move the two words a little more apart from one another.

The video was excellent, I was expecting something sub-standard for some reason and was pleasantly surprised. The shots were well done but a little cliche such as the piano keys shot and the point to sky forest shot.

I thought the video showed the woman with the black hat too much, and the last corporate video shot with the guy was maybe too long but it's still fine if you leave them.

The music you chose was a good choice and it looks like you synced the clips with the music which makes it an excellent video. The music was good, except that it was very repetitive and I wish the piano tune had more variation to it's melody. Hardly your fault though if you didn't make the music yourself.

I would like if it had some audio clips from the videos like Marcus said. You may be keen to focus the video on your cinematographic and editing skills but your audio skills were not showcased.

It's one of the better reels I have seen.

The 2007 One Lap of America...

We went on the One Lap again this year. This is the once a year race by Brock Yates of the Cannon Ball Run movie fame.

Viacom came out to cover a driver in the event this year as well and they are going to feature it on an episode of Born Country on CMT. Its an hour long show and the episode featuring the event should air on July 27.

We shot some of the video they will feature in the show. We were doing our own coverage of the event for our website and they wanted us to shoot some in car video for them. We also gave them some glidecam footage of their car and some interview footage of the guy with the fake deer on the hood of this Escalade (you'll have to watch this to really understand it).

I'm currently working to get the footage put together for a modest release DVD of this years event.

If anyone would like to check out our web stuff I would be very happy to have some feedback on what we can do better. http://2007oloa.blip.tv

I'm also excited to see how much of what we shot gets into the show on CMT. There are lots of stories there about a few video amateurs trying to deal with a large media company. How do these people sleep at night?????

An edit of footage for a continuing job, part of an unemployment initiative where people are sent to a training centre in the Lake District and do team-building exercises etc...

We put this edit together just to show the training centre what we can do for them, hopefully going back in the summer to make a full video.

720/25p and used FILMIC and CORAL settings off Barry's disk.

Poke the Hole trailer.

Poke the Hole is a new BMX video that I've just started working on. It's all based out of Southwest Florida. The riders are just me and my friends. All the footage was shot on a dvc30. This is the first trailer. Kind of a sneak peek. I'll release another one when I have more shots and details about the video. Tell me what you think.

IMO, too many shots with the fish-eye lens. The song track doesn't fit the video very well either. A slow song with video that's typically associated with high energy expenditure. Use something more up tempo like Van Halen's "Dreams". The lyrics even fit the action better, especially during the jumps.

Just my opinion. And of course, using copyrighted, commercial music without permission from the author is a big no-no. Something we 'officially' take seriously here at DVINFO.

Cole McDonald June 3rd, 2007 01:19 PM

I liked the song choice, but must get license...perhaps you can get cover rights to it and have a friends band cover it. :) Then you can get a cheaper version fo the rights to the song (check with a lawyer first). Really playful and cheery tune emphasizes the fun you guys look like you're having. The 7 rider whoops at the end looks really cool.

Dustin Waits June 3rd, 2007 02:47 PM

Well it's just a video for my friends and I and maybe a few of the local riders around here to enjoy. I guess for that reason, I didn't think I needed to get a license. Obviously I don't know much about it. So how does one go about getting this license?

SUPER CARS - NJ/NY - Please view

I made short video that has some highlights from this even I went to. Everything was shot on the go, mostly manual settings on a PV-GS320. Everything else done in post. I apologize for the poor audio I didn't have a mic to use in place of the on board mic. All comments good/bad welcome. WARNING: before you watch this just be aware the audio music might be offensive to some people due to the profanity in it. Not too much but want to make that clear before you watch. Thanks!

Pretty sweet Mike! Those are some sweet rides!

I am getting into cars, and car mod-ing, so I really appreciate this film..

Love the white lambo! So pretty....

I would maybe lay off the fisheye more next time.. I started to fill a little sick. Other then that, I think it was pretty good! I'll have to watch it again with audio some time...

Do you drive anything special?
~Gabriel

Mike Gorski June 3rd, 2007 08:40 PM

Hey thanks for feedback, much appreciated!! I can agree with the fisheye, we were running and gunning the whole time that I needed a wider field of view since I was in the car. I was the navigator so I was videoing and giving directions which was fun. No I don't drive anything special but my friend who drove in this car event has a 1988 BMW M6 in Mint condition. I just take rides but when I earn enough money when I get out of college I'll definitely be looking to buy something classy and fast. How about yourself?

Gabriel Yeager June 4th, 2007 10:48 AM

Right, I can totally understand that. And it did look cool, just maybe a little less next time if you have the option..
Sounds nice... Can't blame ya, cars are so expensive.. And gas it thru the roof!
Well, I don't drive yet-I just can't afford it. Once I get a job that pays decent, then I will buy something.. Right now, I really like the Mazda RX-8. Its my dream car.. I am more so into visual then power when it comes to cars. Thats why I like the RX-8. Once I get it (if I get it), I plan on putting some wing doors on it, a full bodykit (probably the vailside), Underbody Neons/LEDs, a sweet paint-job, some interior work, and most definitely a loud sound system. I am all about music, in-fact, I play. :)

Sunflower Seeds contest video

Hey there... I read these boards often but I usually don't post anything, but fate has insisted I show you my new contest entry. I recently got accepted into the voting rounds for this contest, which is promoting sunflower seeds. We had two minutes to shoot a short, and we had complete creative control. Anyway, I hope that you guys would look at it and tell me what you think. Since the winner is determined by votes, I wanted to make something witty and fast-paced so it would gather lots of laughs and be somewhat original. I used Vegas 6 and After Effects to touch up some of the scenes. I was going for a ridiculous video that bombarded you with so many silly scenes that you would laugh just at the sheer snappiness of it all... tell me if I succeeded!

If you guys like it at all, it would mean to world to me if you would vote for it! You don't need to sign up or anything, just hit the vote button. You can vote 5 times a day until June 10th, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Awesome video! Only in two minutes???? Geez you must be good....O wait, there is no link to anything! I'm voting for the other guy.

Very well done!

I like the warm colors. They work very well for the message you want to get across.

David Wehle June 4th, 2007 01:12 PM

Oh, duh: http://www.grabembythesack.com/week/details.asp?VID=50 And yeah, two minutes long.

Mike Gorski June 4th, 2007 09:38 PM

The rotary engine is pretty ingenious idea. I'm an aircraft technician and I know a company trying to get that engine certified on an aircraft which would be sweet. Nice car if you can get that dough together. Not sure what I want but for now I just want to shoot more high end cars. I'm hoping to get my A1 in a few weeks. But I want to thank you for your feedback, it helps a lot! Thanks again.

Richard Grebby June 5th, 2007 05:12 PM

Thought it was great, camera work was impressive and the editing worked very well.
The music over the top didnt loop together at one point, but that might have been a glich with the movie film and not in post.

What kinds of programs have you used, if you dont mind me asking.

Randy Boose June 5th, 2007 10:50 PM

Really cool video. Where is the first part of the clip shot, close to Soquel High? Cool to see some local spots on these forums.

Ben Coughlan June 6th, 2007 01:26 PM

Hi there, sorry havnt replied sooner, been really busy with work and managed to drop my laptop and break it! Thanks for all the feedback, really helps. For this i prety much just used After Effects and Final Cut Pro, I used Trapcode Particular in After Effects to do the opening title. The Writing is a bit hard to see on this web version, on the full res version i have you can see it fine as it has another layer behind it which is black and then gausian blurred to make it stand out from the energy ball thing... Will change it for the web version, as its just so small the letters get lost. After getting opinions and feedback from people i am cutting a new snappier version, will try and put it up at some point. Thanks again
