ENG Lens compatibility

So people are reporting (thanks for the post Pete) that the Z7/S270 won't control the servo zoom on Canon/Fuji ENG lenses. This is pretty much a disaster considering that the camera is sold based on interchangeability.

Can others please confirm this?

I was really hoping to pick up a Z7 or the S270 and use my Fuji 17x as the stock lens is too short for my work.

If by ENG you are referring to a B4 2/3rd lens. that is correct. there is not a port on the body for your control cable on that lens. the 1/2 inch (?) interchangable lens has control bottons located at the back of the mount. Thier is a step up adapter so you can mount 2/3rd lenes,, but all functrions become manual, and your focal field changes greatly.

By ENG I'm talking about these lenses...

http://www.fujinon.com/Broadcast/Pro...ry.aspx?cat=28

They are all 1/3 inch HD ENG/EFP lenses. From what I've read the Sony has a 12 pin connection for lens control. I own the Fuji 17x but I haven't looked to see if it's 12 pin or not.

OK so the chip size is 1/3. I found the lens jack. it is a 12 pin, VERY COOL!!! hidden under the port cap on the side once you remove the Carl Zeiss piece of glass.

1/2 inch glass mounts with the Fujinon ACM-19 adapter
2/3 in lenses mount with fujinon ACM-17 adapter

I find new things hidden on this camera all the time. I wish they would make the pin port covers another color other than black so you can locate them quicker.

hope that helps

I can confirm that Fujinon lenses do work full servo. I've even used the Fuji 13x3.5BRM on the Z7 without any issues. Sorry I don't have a Canon lens to test.

Questions

Its a shame it doesnt have a range extender. Any problem in buying in from the states? Do you have to pay duty ? Is the warranty void?
There seems to be no alternative as the Sony/Zeiss lens is only an 8 to 1 zoom. Maybe canon will provide soon?
