Re: Is the FS700 overpriced??
If we were based closer to Melbourne I would be in the hire business but logisticaly it's a bit tricky. The BMC is lot cheaper and may may better DR, but it's the slomo that interests me. Our first full FS700 shoot is next week for the Olympics; javelin and long jump!

It won't be long before cheaper cameras with the same functions but at a cheaper price are available. HD cameras when they 1st arrived we very expensive.

Re: Is the FS700 overpriced??
I don't know. These things seem to come out at NAB. We have our first rental this week so it will be making money straight off. I could wait six months or a year for something cheaper, but why do that if you can use what is available now. Just look at Scarlet. It was due to ship in 2009 and only became available in 2012. Life's too short and so is a camera's lifetime.

Recession doesn't always hit everyone. Nor does everybody profit from economic growth. The FS700 is only overpriced if you can't afford it or can't justify the cost in your business model. It opens up higher framerates at HD-resolution at a far lower cost than before. Less expensive camera, less expensive memorycards, less expensive postproduction. In that perspective it's cheap. I think it will open up markets (people/companies that need a video; not filmmakers) that wouldn't want to (or just couldn't) pay for a (rented) Phantom, Alexa or Red.

Re: Is the FS700 overpriced??
In agree. We recently rented a Weisscam with DIT op, lenses, 150mm tripod, etc. etc; cost $10K. It was great, the Weisscam operator was fantastic and the pictures look terrific. We mainly shot at 250fps and 500fps. But if we can get away with 240fps on a FS700, why wouldn't we?
