Is the FS700 overpriced??
Or is $10k a good price for the features and quality? Like to know beforehand.

Especially if you have use for the overcranking features which have never before been seen in its price range... The FS100 was a steal for the price, and with the addition of good 240fps, ND filters, cinegammas, a better top handle, more resolution, HD-SDI, 4k RAW possibilities, the FS700 seems like a pretty amazing upgrade for only $3k more. FS100 was a no-brainer for me, FS700 is even more so. |

Re: Is the FS700 overpriced??
We're doing a commercial next week on the FS700 for a fraction of the price we did a Weisscam shoot on last month. We won't need more then 240fps for most stuff. The price of the 700 to buy was cheaper than the total hire cost of the Weisscam system, operator and lenses for one day.

I'm gonna say yes, just cause I wish I could afford one now :P Compared to other cameras though I'd say it's very reasonable!

Re: Is the FS700 overpriced??
Thanks Al. Will do. We were planning on mixing the F3 with FS700 but will probably just shoot on the FS700.

Re: Is the FS700 overpriced??
I've gotten 2 confirmed rentals, one unconfirmed but likely rental, and a TV spot for a hockey team needing the high speed abilities of the FS700.
AND The camera hasn't arrived yet. From where I am standing if this trend were to continue the camera is looking like a bargain.

Re: Is the FS700 overpriced??
No, the recession is very real - but we are willing to invest scarce cash in a camera that is going to make our investment back quickly -- because it can do things no other camera at its price point can do :-)

On the other hand, the FS700 may end up saving me a lot of money since I may sell my Scarlet and will definitely sell my FS100 (and Heliopan VariND)... I've found my FS100 to be working far more than my Scarlet lately, so the FS700 seems it may be a step in the right direction. |

Going on the assumption that you know this, but do some tests on frame rates in the hockey arena because of possible lighting source power phase issues that can cause flickering at 240fps. ProVideo Coalition.com: Stunning Good Looks by Art Adams |

Re: Is the FS700 overpriced??
Thanks for the heads up. We will be shooting some test shots ahead of time with the stunt team.

You could say it's overpriced for a consumer camera, but I don't think it's consumers who are buying it. OTOH, a lot of us will be filming jobs that would only get made if an FS700 was available - for example, "we'd like to shoot it on Epic or even C300 or F3, but we can't afford to own one and rental isn't the way to go. Halve the price and we're set to go".

Are you thinking of making the camera available for rental? Or is it wet hire only? In the wake of NAB I opted for the BMC for the wider dynamic range, but I'm very keen to put the FS700's slow-mo capabilities to the test on a TVC or two. As for your question Jalan, I think it's a hell of a lot of camera for the money. |
