Hey, please somebody tell me how to change Vegas style to dark /dark brown/ ?

Ron Coleman November 11th, 2006 04:22 PM

Sony's "Digital Video & Audio Production" workbook is the best training material available for learning Vegas from scratch, in my opinion. It has a set of step-by-step lessons that are designed for a training class, but can be used as self-paced training. It comes with a DVD that contains the media files needed for the lessons. It covers everything you need to know to get up to speed on Vegas. Best of all, you get to actually do everything covered in the lessons.

GO over to Vaast---They have some themes and skin setups there.

Carl Downs November 11th, 2006 05:37 PM

No serials in e-mail

Nope, no serials in Order Confirmation or in my "My sony" page... very strange... will have to contact sony... Thanks for you input.

Duane Burleson November 11th, 2006 06:48 PM

There were no serial numbers for Boris Gaffiti in the email I received after purchaseing the download of Vegas 7 package either. Don't know Boris Graffiti is so did not install it :)

The only skin/theme I've ever seen from VASST for Vegas changes the entire OS Theme. That's not something I really wanna do. I don't think that Vegas can change just the UI of itself. I gave up trying a long time ago, so....

Plamen Petrov November 12th, 2006 05:33 AM

Hey, it's not like that! I mean that I saw before an examples in Vegas in internet and I remember the appearance of Vegas is brown like. Maybe it was a question of some in preferences, I am not sure.
So, is there anybody who uses his Vegas in dark view panels&windows?

Ok, bottom line is that you CAN change what Vegas looks like. However, to do that you have to change the WINDOWS theme. Right-click a clear area on your desktop, choose Properties, and then go to the "Appearance" tab. Whatever changes you make there will affect the look of Vegas (and ALL of your other programs as well).

Sean Seah November 12th, 2006 09:35 AM

I got the serial but it didnt work for me in the first go. Sony contacted me to ask Boris directly n I got a new serial and it worked. Anyway, the support was good.

Sean Seah November 12th, 2006 09:38 AM

Yeah. VASST has the BEST training material in my opinion. I bought their VASST DVDA3 package and I own some other training material for V6. I can tell u VASST is good.

Separate resolutions for preview tab and preview device?

I have dual monitors and I use the second one for previewing at full resolution. The problem is that this renders the preview tab unusable (since a full-resolution clip does not fit in the tab). Is it possible to have the tab in "auto" and the preview device in "Full"?

edit: problem solved, sorry for the post

PJ Gallagher November 12th, 2006 06:13 PM

Very Basic Question

Which is more important for getting the best frame rate from the Preview window? CPU, RAM, or Graphics Card?

Cheers
Pat

Jon Fairhurst November 12th, 2006 07:01 PM

Credit the person who did sound editing. I don't believe that Sony requires that you credit anybody for use of their Cinescore libs.

Note that DV Mag reviews Cinescore. The two negatives are that you can sync hit points, and there are few songs to choose from right now.

Mike Kujbida November 12th, 2006 08:28 PM

A faster CPU always takes top priority. More RAM will help for things like RAM renders and also to avoid paging during renders. With the exception of a very few programs, a high-end graphics card will have very little impact.

Craig Sovereign November 12th, 2006 09:15 PM

I'll ask the question thats been bugging me for a while.

I have a dual opteron (quad core) machine with 4 Gb ram and 2 500Gb sata's in a Raid0. I don't get full framerate preview with Cineformed clips.

Am I missing a setting or something?

Kevin James November 12th, 2006 09:59 PM

Render to master track in Ultimate s2

I am experimenting with the demo of ultimate s2......

In excalibur you can render the pip to a track to smooth playback......can you do the same in ultimate s2 after you have your tracks sync'd?

Mike Kujbida November 12th, 2006 10:24 PM

Are you using Vegas 7? A lot of folks on the Sony Vegas forum claim to be getting close to, if not, full framerate preview.
I don't shoot HDV nor do I have a computer as good as yours so I'm just passing along what I've read.

Werner Wesp November 13th, 2006 05:22 AM

Indeed, the only solution will be previewing on the right device, I suppose. In mediaplayer the contrast is higher and the colour temp is a bit higher it seems - or perhaps the colors are just a bit more saturated.

Making color correction in Vegas near impossible with the right preview device. Does anyone know wether the new BlackMagic Intensity will support previewing right from the timeline?

Kevin James November 13th, 2006 11:50 AM

Nevermind, found it- Ctrl-M

Locking ONLY position of events

Hi all,

Is it possible to just lock the position of an event on the timeline but still be able split it and adjust the start/end points of those shorter clips (without moving them)?

I have synched several takes of a performance of a song and layered them below each other and I will NEVER want to change the position of any event.

Possible?

Cheers.

Ian . . .

Emre Safak November 13th, 2006 07:40 PM

Couldn't you use the "add take" feature? Drag the next take with the other mouse button and release over the clip.

Eugene Kong November 13th, 2006 09:31 PM

Celluloid and Reelpak 1

I just purchased Celluloid a few days ago and even though the official documentation (and the website) states that Reelpak 1 comes with Celluloid, the Reelpak 1 filmlooks do not appear. I've tried contacting VASST but it's been a few days and no reply from them at all.

Am I missing something in the installation process? I would really appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this. Thanks!

Ian Stark November 13th, 2006 10:25 PM

Hi Emre,

Not sure how that would help. I don't think that using Add As Take would lock the events from horizontal movement (ie in time).

Cheers.

Lee Kennedy November 14th, 2006 07:39 AM

Well I bought a Vantec Nexstar 3 USB2/e-SATA case. Chucked a segate 300 gig SATA2 drive in it. Only running it through USB2 currently, but it's working great for playback in Vegas at least. Getting full rate previews, both cine and m2t. Haven't tried capturing yet, but hopefully it should be alright. Defnately through e-SATA.

Unfortunately pc express esata cards aren't available in Perth, Australia from what I can tell, but as soon as I can find one, I'm sure Ill grab one.

Bill Ravens November 14th, 2006 07:58 AM

i had to mail order my pcie card. no one carried them, locally, either. do a search in www.pricewatch.com.

John Rofrano November 14th, 2006 11:48 AM

Hi Eugene,

I'm not sure how you tried to get in touch with VASST but both the Celluloid ReadMe and the Celluloid User's Guide have a support email address in them which would have been routed to the entire support staff and I didn't see anything. The email is ultimatesupport at the domain vasst.com.

To answer your question, you should have received a confirmation email with a link to ReelPak-1. Go back and check that email. There should be one link for Celluloid and then below that toward the bottom of the email should be another link to ReelPak-1. If you have any problems send an email to ultimatesupport and we will take care of you.

2 LCD monitors and 1 external Preview?

I'm looking to place my order for Vegas 7, Cineform Connect and complete new NLE workstation and I'd like to know if Vegas will let me run 2 x 19" WS lcd monitors along with an external preview monitor via 1394 before I pay up.

I know I need a graphics card with 2 dvi ports and 1 spare 1394 port. Can anyone recommend a decent, reasonably priced graphics card? My workstation has the following spec;

Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 (2x2.66GHz) 1066Mhz Fsb/4Mb L2 cache
2048Mb Corsair DDR2 800Mhz Ram
ASUSŪ P5W DH DELUXE: DDR2, x16 slot, 975X chipset, 2 PCI
80GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7200rpm)
320GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7200rpm)
320GB SERIAL ATA II HARD DRIVE WITH 8MB CACHE (7200rpm) (these 2 Raid 0 striped)
16x +/- DVD WRITER (8x +/- Dual Lyr) (5x DVD-RAM) (40x CD-RW)
500W (Peak) Super Quiet Dual Rail PSU with 120mm fan
3 PORT Firewire card
2 x 19" Widescreen LCD monitors

I'll be shooting on a JVC HD110E, using a JVC BRHD50 VTR and A/D convertor with 1394 O/P for other various video sources.

I'd really appreciate any advice or suggestions here. Furthermore, if anyone spots any glaringly obvious problems with the above spec I'd love to know! I'm a cameraman of many years and fairly new to NLE. Must say..buying a house is easier than choosing an NLE software package! Seems like Vegas is the one though!!

Chris Barcellos November 14th, 2006 04:32 PM

I don't believe it will preview out to a monitor via 1394 in HDV or HD no matter what you have. DV should work, though not necessarily in real time...

Eugene Kong November 14th, 2006 06:30 PM

Thanks for the reply. Email sent (again!).

Lee Kennedy November 14th, 2006 06:33 PM

Yeah I've seen quite a few on the net, but I'd rather wait for them to become locally available. I just prefer not to buy electrical gear over the net. Hopefully only have to wait a month or two. One PC shop I spoke to said they are trying to get them, but haven't been able to yet. And seeing they are selling the eSATA cases, surely there will be customer demand for the pc express cards.

Vegas Movie Studio Newby Questions

Hello everyone. This is my first post, as I have just downloaded Vegas Movie Studio Trial for a look. My current editor (Movie Edit Pro) is running out of puff with lots of files. If anybody can shed some light on the following, I'd be grateful:

1. Editing events: Does Vegas have an option where I can split an event and the program automatically deletes either to the left or right of the split (depending on the action taken by me) and then close up the gap? I'm aware of the ripple edit where if you delete an event the gap closes automatically, but I was wondering if there is an option that circumvents the need to manually delete the bit that's left first. In MEP, I can hit K, which will split the event, then delete the resulting event to the left of the split and close up the gap ie ripple. Likewise, I can hit U and MEP will split the event at the cursor and then delete the "new" event on the right of the cursor and ripple the movie to close the gap.

Can this be done in Vegas?

2. Vegas MS has 4 video tracks and 4 audio tracks. You can't use a video track for audio. Does the real Vegas have dedicated video and audio tracks or can a track be used for either video or audio events?

3. My trial download didn't include DVD Architect Studio. Does anybody know if this was intentional or a download glitch? When I try to create a DVD, all the program says is "Sony DVD Arcitect Studio does not appear to be installed". I have tried asking Sony but I cannot register for support because I don't have a computer number as I haven't bought anything yet.

Thanks a lot,

Alwyn

Edward Troxel November 14th, 2006 10:52 PM

1. You use "S" to split and then manually delete whatever event. I suppose you could use scripting in the full version of Vegas to create such a function. Scripting isn't available in Movie Studio, though.

2. The full version has unlimited video and audio tracks. Need 35 audio tracks? No problem.

3. Did you download the DVD Architect Studio trial? It's a separate download from the Vegas Movie Studio trial. Both are listed on this page:
http://www.sonymediasoftware.com/dow...p2.asp?DID=684

Alwyn Adkins November 14th, 2006 11:49 PM

Ed,

Thanks. Does the full blown Vegas differentiate between video and audio, or can you put either on any track you like? For example, could I put audio on track one?

I'll download the architect demo; I didn't even see it there. Thanks.

Cheers, Al

Richard Firnges November 15th, 2006 12:13 AM

Hello Alwyn,

in the full version of Vegas it is possible to have a Audio Track on top. But Audio and Video tracks are still different

Greetings Richard

Edward Troxel November 15th, 2006 08:28 AM

Audio and video tracks can be placed in any order. That does not matter at all. However, audio tracks can ONLY contain audio and video tracks can ONLY contain video. If you want track 1 to be an audio track, that is no problem at all (and I would think that would also be no problem in VMS as well).

When you open the full version of Vegas, there are NO tracks on the timeline. You then start adding tracks as needed. So, for example, you could have a project with 10 audio tracks and ZERO video tracks.

Simon Wyndham November 15th, 2006 08:43 AM

I've just come up against the nested 5.1 VEG problem myself, and I am not happy :-(

Not sure what the point is of not allowing 5.1 to be carried over onto the master timeline, but is has just caused the start of an absolutely huge headache for me on a project that I need to complete double quick time!

Emre Safak November 15th, 2006 10:16 AM

Do you mean that the nested file renders as stereo, or simply appears stereo but renders surround?

Simon Wyndham November 15th, 2006 10:24 AM

As far as I can tell all nested projects are stereo only, and when I queried the development team on this they also told me that nested projects are stereo only. Note that my query was about Vegas 7, so this is the latest version of the program.

Simon Wyndham November 15th, 2006 10:44 AM

Thank God for DSE\'s Trackaliser script! At least now I can easily render out each track for placement in the master timeline.
