Re: UHD: Panasonic GH5 and Panasonic HC-X1: which of them gives a better image qualit

I have both. If you are concerned only with image quality, the edge goes to the GH5 with a good lens. In good light, they both perform well, and the HC-X1 has some ergonomic advantages

HC-X1

Re: Wedding sequence gone viral

Hard to believe it's only 2 operators. Great work for the cameraman at the altar to get both the bride and the groom. The framing is so good on both shots.

Re: Drone hits British Airways ...

Don't believe everything (or anything) you read in the Mail. There is zero evidence that this was in fact a drone. The whole situation - the altitude, primarily - makes a drone rather unlikely....

Re: HDLink won't convert Canon MOVs in Windows 8

I just changed to Windows 10, and can report that HD Link converts MP4 (the largest format) files from a Canon 7Dmk2 just fine. It also converts MXF files from a XF300.

First Light appears to work...

Re: Recommended Hard drive size?

If you can afford it, I really recommend that you buy enough cf cards so that you don't have to download and erase, then reuse the cards. 2 128GB cards per camera should do it for your 7-hour show. If...

Re: Exporting Times

You didn't mention what format your source and export are, nor the version of Premiere, so it's impossible to say if your slow exports are within what is to be expected.

Your computer is slow and...

HDLink won't convert Canon MOVs in Windows 8

I recently moved from Windows 7 to 8, and now neither HDLink nor GoPro Studio Premium will convert MOV files from a Canon 7D to Cineform. MXF files from a XF300 convert wthout a problem. GoPro's help...

Re: How much homily do you include?

I film all of it, then I usually ask the couple about it. Most of the time they say no. If I don't ask, I'll cut it out.

I don't find it a good time for reaction shots, for unless the priest is a...

Re: creating fireworks flicker?

Fireworks are pretty bright when they explode. I've shot spectators with good results with an F1.4 Canon lens, 1/50 sec, at I think ISO 800. You don't have to boost the ISO too much. Of course, the...

At the bottom of this page is a link to a list of lenses that will work with the AF. There are quite a few.

Re: Shutter angle

Are you shooting 24fps or 25? The 173° shutter is to reduce flickering of 50hz lights when shooting 24fps. As you say you are in PAL-land, you're probably shooting 25fps, and 180° is fine.

Re: Best settings for DOF on XF100

The sensor in your XF100 is the same size as the XHA1, so you should be able to achieve similar results. There are 3 things that affect depth of field - lens focal length, aperture and distance to...

Re: Flash Remover

Has anybody tried this? It's called Flash Remover Pro.

Their old flash remover worked OK, as long as there wasn't any movement in the frame. If there was, it was unusable because of the stutter...

Re: EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM on 7D?

In the specs it says it supports the Rebel t4i (EOS 650D), so I don't think you will get autofocus with a 7D. The f5.6 is a real killer. It kind of defeats the purpose of using a DSLR for video,...

Re: Compression Choice for Quality?

I archive in Cineform whenever possible. The files are still big, but much less than uncompressed, and pretty much lossless. It edits and color-corrects very well. One minute of footage (1920 x...

Re: what does changing shutter on A1 do to footage?

As the others have mentioned, the softness you describe sounds like it was caused by a too-small aperture. In full sunlight, if you don't have the ND on max you will certainly get hazy, blurry,...

Re: 350mb = 1,7gb!?

I think your calculation for the 60 minutes is a little off. The file size will be about 50GB.

Re: Multi Cam fun and games...

You have an extra step I don't understand. Why not just sync everything, then alt-select all the image tracks together, and nest them. Why nest each track first?

Re: XHA1 Auto Shutter Speed

This is a problem with the XHA1 (don't know about the XHA1s). If it is set for 25F progressive, the camera defaults to 1/25 second shutter in TV (shutter priority) mode. It's a pain, since every...

Re: Capturing Brides Vows without using wired mic?

As Don Bloom says, boosting the bride's voice in post is usually necessary, and after some noise reduction, is generally OK. This only works, though, if the room is not too boomy and the bride is...

Re: Good wide angle lens for reception?

Save up. The 24 f1.4 is worth it. Beautiful images, great color when there is no light.

Re: Canon XF Utility CD not available from Canon!!!

It's a Canon thing. I remember the same complaints about finding Zoombrowser if you didn't have the disc. I don't quite understand, but it's deep in their DNA.

ps I remember with Zoombrowser you...

Re: Premiere 5.5 Cineform clip wont take keyframes.

If you time remap, you have to nest the clip in order to apply the keyframes. (right-click, nest). It has to do with the order that the time effect and other keyframes are applied. Not just...
