"Even better yet, is there anyone here in this general area that has decent equipment and would want to help out on it?"

I'm willing to help, Alex.

The comments I made about Premeire were just made in fun. I still keep Premeire on my computer. The value in a bunch of us getting together is in discussing challenges we run into, and getting to see first hand how some of us have solved these challenges. I am certain that some solutions that Premeire and FCP users have come up with on certain issues, will be very valuable to VV users. And vice versa.

And once we start getting together with some frequency, it will be a lot easier for us to make a few calls and get someone we know to help out on a shoot, sometimes for free, sometimes for significant money.

I just spent 4 days helping my friend Robert Starling ( http://www.starlingproductions.com/ ) on the shooting of a Mountain Bike Instruction DVD, a shoot with a crew of 12, and with some extremely talented people. I did this for free, both because Robert is a friend, and because I had the chance to learn a level of cinematography and production and shooting that I could never have achieved by reading books.
I can imagine a group of our own, meeting once or twice a month could yield similar benefits to each of us in time.

Looking for some help in Taiwan

I'm living in Hsinying, Taiwan and I'd like to meet some people interested in making DV films. If anyone near the area is interested send me an e-mail. I have a Canon XL1s, Final Cut Pro, and After Effects.

Joe Carney July 16th, 2003 11:47 AM

Exactly, at a meeting you could tell all of us what you learned and how to apply it.

Tim Burchett July 17th, 2003 07:04 AM

No, not late. I still have not found a XL-1 user here, only actors. please email me for more info.

Dave Valencic July 17th, 2003 03:27 PM

Alex, Call Industrial Video in Cleveland...They can hook you up with a rental company. I KNOW you can rent around here...a friend of mine who lives in Euclid rented a DSR-300 locally...when he gets back from Seattle, I'll ask him where he got it from.

Call some local production houses too...Avid Communications in Eastlake.....Beachwood Studios in Beachwood....the downtown houses arn't ringing a bell.....

XL1s interview crew needed in L.A.

Greetings all,

I'm producing a feature-length documentary and have an important interview coming up in the south L.A. area that I need a crew for.

All of our previous interviews have been conducted using an XL1s with manual lens (I can provide the manual lens) with cinematic lighting (typ. three point lighting) and sound (I will provide the sound equipment). I can also supply the XL1s if you want this gig but can't get your hands on the camera.

Because of the interviewee and subject matter, crew members of African-American heritage are ideal but not necessary. Please respond to kevin@abraxasproductions.com or by calling 512-244-3668.

Many thanks and regards,
Kevin Triplett

Forgot to mention: although this is a low-budget documentary -- it's self-funded -- this is a paid gig.

Also, you're welcome to post a response to the forum, I'll be checking for replies. Another forum member may want your contact information.

Thanks!
Kevin

Bay Area Video Coalition

I just came across this site today but to bad I live in PA seems to be a lot of freelance jobs available.Does anyone know if there is such a thing for us on the East Coast?

Mike Rehmus July 21st, 2003 09:39 PM

You might check out ITVA in NYC.

We not only have BAVC, we also have the Film Arts Foundation. Both are good places to make contacts, learn and use/rent good equipment.

Any tips for finding work in L.A. (I want to move out there)

Guys and gals,

I worked for two weeks in Santa Ana and L.A. back in June. I loved it, but my friends can't find any work for me (one's on the Lollapalooza tour, the other is busy). I don't want to go out without a job, but I can't seem to find anything permanent.

Any tips? I'm willing to go to news, but can't find info. on network jobs or what I need to do, union-wise.

THANKS A BUNCH!

heath mcknight

Marcus Farrar July 24th, 2003 06:06 AM

Greetings

Do you have a full crew working on this project or is it just you. Just interested because I live in Raleigh. I may be able to help you on a project in the future. I don't have a pro light kit. I have plans for getting one but as you stated the good ones are expensive and I really don't use lighting much yet, and when I do I rent.

Roze Ann July 24th, 2003 06:43 AM

Hi Marcus! So nice to hear from a local fellow production person. On the video...most of the time it is just me. Once in a while I need an assistant or 2. Very small project for now.

I have started a second project on which I may need assistance sometime in the next few months. It is a longer term documentary about a young man in Cary who has autism and is an incredible artist. His name is DJ Svoboda. Check out his work at "http://www.imagifriends.com".

The images on-line need to be reposted as they are not nearly as vivid as his artwork. I just discovered his work about 3 weeks ago. Will be helping his friends with the website to make the images look more accurate.

When you get a minute please shoot me an email at: "fatcatmedia.biz" so I can have your name in my reference file. I'll give you a call sometime in the next week to chat (busy for the next few days). Thanks for writing and look forward to speaking with you!!!

Rob Lohman July 25th, 2003 06:24 AM

The only thing that I "hear" is that everybody is looking for work
there, but (relative) few are actually working [paid]...

Anyone else care to respond?

Mark Argerake July 25th, 2003 08:00 AM

You're going to have to define what kind of work specifically you're looking to do.

Have you tried Mandy.com or the HDC ( http://www.hcdonline.com/jobs/default.asp )

Rob Belics July 25th, 2003 08:12 AM

Check out the book "Your First Year in Hollywood". Good advice there, though it's directed at actors and not others.

Remember that most film/video work is temp work. And you have to dig and promote yourself to get it. Cameramen, audio people, etc. who are known can find steady work. Many even have agents. There's lots of it but networking plays a key role. You may find yourself frequently working for free for a while.

But going out there for two weeks in the hopes of landing a full time job probably won't work. If you want to work, stay. Otherwise, don't go.

Hilton Belle July 26th, 2003 08:12 AM

Hello any NJerseyans or NewYorkers in the house?

I am looking for dedicated hardworking filmmakers who want to collaborate on some real cool projects this summer. I have some good connections within the industry however you know the story in order for the big boys to step in, first you need to demonstrate what you can do to blow their socks off so to speak. They always say it's a hard climb with a lot of slips and falls along the way. But with everyone working together to achieve the same goal ;SUCCESS nothing is impossible. I learned that from a great american music icon who recently passed. So if your looking build your reel, get involved with some hot projects or looking to network and form a promising production team please let me know. Thanks everyone. Till next time.

You do good work, man.

Shawn Burns July 27th, 2003 08:20 PM

thank you.

why thank you. do you design?

K. Forman July 27th, 2003 08:42 PM

It is concievable to have a $2,000 website. If Shawn can do flash, front end, back end, php, etc., a full site could cost that. Just because you have not reached that level, doesn't mean it isn't possible.

And Keith is right, it looks like you do pretty nice work.

Shawn Burns July 27th, 2003 08:49 PM

hahah.

www.wowworship.com -- i just worked on that site. it was a $13,000 project.

and i also hated it. it was HUUUUUUUGE. took forever. yes.

Hugh DiMauro July 28th, 2003 09:18 AM

Hi Hilton!

Firstly, you have a cool name that just begs to be part of the industry! You already sound like a Hollywood big wig! Anyhow, I'm in the same boat as you and live in the Atlantic City area. I hobnob around Manhattan four times per year and pretty much know my way around the theatre district. I have a pretty good cache of equipment and would love to collaborate on projects. I have a work colleague who takes night classes on acting so I know he and his cronies are hungry for a "reel" to submit to agents. Reach out and let me know what you have in mind.

Ciao.

Hugh DiMauro July 28th, 2003 09:19 AM

Oh and by the way... I have a contact with Angelic Entertainment out of San Diego. Maybe there's some potential.

Storyboard artist

I'm looking for a storyboard artist for one of my future projects.
I'm currently finishing a musicvideo for a talanted group in Sweden and I'm also shooting like a maniac for my 60 minute extreme acrobatics video at www.saltomortalez.com

My future project is a shortfilm and I'm going to put alot of energy in to that project and win some competitions with it;)

I'm looking for a storyboard artist, dosent matter where you are from as long as you speak decent English.

And now to the thing I hate to say: The compensation will be small to none depending on state funding here in Sweden.

Feel free to email me at fta@home.se with questions or post here. I read this forum frequently.

/Andy

K. Forman July 28th, 2003 05:06 PM

Andreas- If you don't mind my asking, what group is it you were working with?

Andreas Fernbrant July 28th, 2003 06:59 PM

Hi Keith!

They are really new to the market but have their first singe out on the scene in Greece, Latvia and other countries around europe.

K. Forman July 29th, 2003 04:57 AM

The reason I asked, I knew a group called Swedish Whistler. They have been doing quite well, getting Air play in Japan, and touring in the States.

I will look for your video.

Hans Nyberg July 30th, 2003 10:15 PM

I'm in Novi, MI. Will you be shooting in Detroit or NYC?

Patrick Coker August 3rd, 2003 10:35 AM

I'm game!

I don't have much time (working on my own project) but whatever I can do to help I will. I'm doing an independant soap...yeah I know. but it has been interesting and I am getting some exposure. Just got some press in the SOURCE magazine (Sept. issue pg 68). if you get a chance check it out.

Bob Benkosky August 5th, 2003 12:56 AM

So what's going on with this thread as of now anyhow???

Anyone actually filming anything?

Need a fresh face....lol

K. Forman August 6th, 2003 05:58 AM

Florida crew- Interested?

Hello Floridians! I am looking to make a feature length film soon. As of now, it is in the earliest stages of pre-production. At this point, I would like to find out who is interested in joining this venture. I am but one man... I COULD do it myself, but that would be foolish.

THIS IS A LOW BUDGET PRODUCTION! I would like to see that everyone gets the rate they deserve... However, the only thing I can promise, is that you will at least break even. On top of this, you will recieve FULL CREDITS, a copy for yourself, and I will feed you.

I am looking for people with any and all experience levels. If you are interested, please use the e-mail link below, and use PRODUCTION in the subject line. Please include experience, interests, and equipment. I will contact you and give you more details.

Thanks

John Hartney August 6th, 2003 09:06 PM

welcome bob, just life it seems. there is at least one more person who live in Hialeah who wants to join us too. Maybe in a couple of weeks just to see who shows up?

Dan has some interesting ideas about making and marketing music videos.

K. Forman August 8th, 2003 06:54 AM

Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

Seriously... is there nobody in Florida that would be interested in lending their experience to an indi project? I could really use some help with lighting, sound, and other aspects that are involved.

Michael Welles August 8th, 2003 11:37 AM

Hi Keith. I saw your post the other day and wanted to respond, but couldn't because I had to take care of a few things first. The most important question from me to you is - Where are you going to shoot? By your location? - Melbourne/Palm Bay? Or elsewhere? I'm in Hialeah, FL.

Right now I'm talking with Joe about a get together. I really want to meet up with him and talk for a while about ideas and stories. I have a Panasonic AG-DVX100, tripod, dolly, mic, and very cheap halogen lights.

I was hoping to know a bit more about this project of yours. The story, actors, ect... I haven't shot anything as a "pro" so to speak, but if I can help... I'll try!
