Music Video by Cat Power shot with XL1s and PL-XL1 adaptor

Hello John,

Thank you for expressing an interest in the Optex PL-XL1 lens adaptor and the Peleng 8mm Fish Eye 35mm lens I am selling as described in my first post.

Here are pictures which I just took of the adaptor and lens - taken with my trusty 'ol PowerShot s300:
http://noisybrain.com/optex_peleng8

Here's a music video by Cat Power called "He War" which was directed by Brett Vapnek and shot with the Canon XL1S using a PL-XL1 lens adaptor and film lenses. http://www.matadorrecords.com/cat_power/music.html First, turn your volume up loud - then CLICK on either high (broadband) or low (dialup)
I think this music video gives you a good example of what to expect.

Feel free to let me know what you think and if you have any additional questions.

Thank you!

another example with Angenieux 10-150mm

Here's something I shot with an Angenieux 10-150mm on the Xl1s:
Again, TURN UP your volume and then click on the link

How about some *silent* B-roll I quickly shot one Sunday last Summer
on the Charles River just as a week-long rainfall had subsided
by the late morning and the sky had cleared up by early afternoon, it was very windy though!
http://noisybrain.com/SDTV/PL-XL/charles_river.mov

Both the Optex PL-XL1 adaptor and the Pelend 8mm Fisheye are still for sale as described here:

If interested, shoot me an email,

Thanks!

Adam Burtle March 30th, 2004 08:04 PM

don, your last link is a duplicate of the first angenieux one.

also, the cat power video is in RAM format, which is a shame because i wanted to see it, but i'm not willing to put Realplayer on my machine haha..

lastly, might be a good idea to post some FULL size video, as opposed to 320x240 or whatever the .mov links were, simply because it's hard to see the disparity in sharpness / clarity of a 35mm lens vs. the XL1s when the video is so tiny. (just a constructive thought)

Don Berube March 30th, 2004 08:09 PM

Hi Adam,

Thanks for your input. Link was corrected! I'll see what I can do about full-size clips - although if you actually take a look see - you'll see the difference.

I use RealOne Player (Real Player 10) which is eons and eons and eons better than the standard Real Player that you are thinking of - no advertising too.

Using high end glass such as a Zeiss SuperSpeed is going to yield a higher end, more resolute and more "cinematic-looking" image with a more supple taper on the depth of field (provided you know how to shoot well). Zeiss Super Speeds are my favorite for use with the PL-XL1 adaptor.

Best,

- don

Nick Hiltgen April 1st, 2004 12:25 AM

Mike the only thing I think you could be referring to is the bvm-d9h5u which is a 9" HD monitor which isnt' really a replacement for the 8045

Allan Rejoso April 1st, 2004 12:57 AM

If your son can deal with Jap menus, you can get the Jap version of the 953 for $800 brand-new. It would have been a lot cheaper if not for the strong Yen.

Don Berube April 1st, 2004 01:26 AM

Sold!!!

- don

Chris Wright April 1st, 2004 09:03 AM

I'd like to know how much that is in US dollars also

Thanks!

Nick Hiltgen April 1st, 2004 09:13 AM

Monitor is an 8041q not an 8044, same features but not an HR monitor, sorry for any confusion. I'll have a price list up shortly.

Jean-Philippe Archibald April 1st, 2004 03:15 PM

Well nobody's going to criticize you for deceptive representation.

- Crummy boom pole
- Generic tripod

Your listing gave me quite a late-night chuckle!

(BTW folks, Nick's offering some good prices on his gear. If you're in the market I suggest grabbing some of that kit before he regains his sanity!)

Nick Hiltgen April 2nd, 2004 09:29 AM

Ken thanks, I just know how sometimes you might order something (like I don't know... a boom pole through ebay) and then find out that you'd have better luck using the end of a mop handle (it wasn't that bad...)

Thanks for the kind words.

Nick

Kristopher Mallory April 2nd, 2004 09:54 AM

Your MA-200 with the baterry charger for 300.... is it the CH-910 with all the original parts? if so ypu gtot a buyer for that one.

Jean-Philippe Archibald April 2nd, 2004 12:29 PM

I might be interested in some stuff, the 3x lens, maybe the matte box... lights? give me some details about the shock mount.

I will think about that!

Nick Hiltgen April 2nd, 2004 12:43 PM

Kristopher, yes indeed it is the ch910 with all the parts so that it will connect to the ma-200 (had issues with missing parts prior to buying this one/ learned the hard way) I'll send you pictures if you'd like me to.

Jean-Phillippe the shockmount (the only good thing that came with that crummy boom pole) I believe is by audio technica it has a bands holding a clip, if you'd like I'll send you a picture later on tonight.

Thanks
Nick

Rob Jacobs April 2nd, 2004 01:02 PM

Did you get a camera yet?

Kristopher Mallory April 2nd, 2004 02:37 PM

yes i would love to see some pics. if everything is in order i'll buy those items from you. thanks

btw, do you take paypal?

Jean-Philippe Archibald April 2nd, 2004 02:47 PM

Nick,

Yes, if you can , send me some pictures of the shock mount, the lens, matte box and lights. I have some money to invest in video equipement, but I did not finish yet to determine my needs.

Nick Hiltgen April 2nd, 2004 03:12 PM

I do accept paypal, but I prefer the bank account transfers as opposeed to the credit cards, (which paypal chargers like a 5% fee on... blah) but if you have to use a credit card we'll figure something out.

I totally understand figuring needs out so please take your time.

Nick
