A Straightforward Solution.

A solution isn't buying a new camera- but buying a cheap very small cable. Or adapter. Buy a Firewire 800 to mini-400 cable. Or a small 800 to dual 400 adapter then you can use your normal FW...

I have a question:

Is the OS (Optical Image Stabiliser) effective on a the 550D - in relation to shooting video? Does a Lens with OS work as well as an OS in a HD Camcorder (XH-A1, EX1.. etc...)...

Yes my XM2 makes a fair bit of noise when loading-unloading a tape. But not much more than any other mini-DV camera which I have used- VX 1000, VX 2000, XL2.
