Re: Not a single mention of the DJI Mavic?

Just looked at some more of the videos about the sharpness/detail issue with the Mavic - I actually think this is bigger than just a user error issue. Clearly (no pun intended) they couldn't see that...

Re: Not a single mention of the DJI Mavic?

As a drone the Mavic is clearly better, but as a complete camera system I think the Karma still has an advantage.

GoPro is a better camera in terms of detail, dynamic range, codec,...

Re: What is CRAFT?

The thing is with a modular design like this if there's enough demand for those they could simply add a control module which has dedicated or programmable buttons for direct control. It also looks...

And then steps back in the ring with a truly professional camera:

So it seems like they've just dropped the consumer market, which was always a questionable one for the...

Re: FILM FILM FILM! Kodak's back baby... Kodak's back.

Looking at the second photo in that article I initially thought they were loading the cartridge horizontally instead of vertically - but I realize now that they just have the camera on it's side.

Re: ISO level in auto modes

You can set a maximum ISO for auto modes, but as with many things in sony's interface it's not particularly obvious how to do it. Here's a video someone posted that shows how to get to the setting:

Re: New Sony A7s to shoot 4K video

Hmm, hadn't thought about that, but I guess that's true. That would be fine though - my point is that it would be better if sony provided a way for the focus ring rotation to map to the focus change...

Re: New Sony A7s to shoot 4K video

I guess it depends on your shooting style - I personally still prefer manual focus for video. Rented the 24-70 for a week and the manual focus is terrible, borderline unusable in my opinion. The...

Re: Gopro Hero 4 announced

I had the LCD backpack for my previous gopros, but haven't missed it since I got the 3+. Tethering to a phone or ipad works better in a lot of situations - helmet mount, etc where looking at the back...

Re: New Sony A7s to shoot 4K video

Seems unlikely - this review has some tests with SLOG via external recording and it appears to work:

Re: Love B&W photography but can't afford a Leica?

From the features page it sounds like instead of a typical debayering process they simply eliminate the red & blue samples altogether, and then create the image using only the green samples with no...

Re: GH4 for video—only with tripod or stabilizer unit?

Still photo lenses with image stabilization will work, but often not as well as a dedicated camcorder lens with stabilization. One problem I've noticed is that with a still lens when it reaches the...

Re: Press Release: Panasonic Announces 4K Mirrorless DMC-GH4

The data rates are variable, so they're highly dependent upon the content of the video. Footage with a lot of detail and motion will eat up space on the card quickly - something like an interview...

Re: How to avoid/beat Repetitive Strees Injury?

I used a wacom exclusively for 5-6 years - I switched over specifically due to tendonitis pain from repetitive use. Personally I found I could be faster with it, but it did take some practice. I...

Re: GH4 records for 90 minutes with Delkin 32GB 400X card

Thanks for doing the tests - regardless of the actual numbers, it shows that the estimated time is a worst-case scenario, and that in everyday use you're likely to get longer run times assuming your...

Re: GH4 records for 90 minutes with Delkin 32GB 400X card

Yes - your original test shot just didn't have enough detail or motion to require much data. I'm guessing even just having it in focus would have cut the recording time significantly. The showroom...

Re: GH4 records for 90 minutes with Delkin 32GB 400X card

What was it you were recording for 90 minutes? Was there any motion or detail? 200mbps is 1.5Gb/minute, which should require over 130Gb to do 90 minutes. I'm assuming the camera is using VBR with...

Re: Press Release: Panasonic Announces 4K Mirrorless DMC-GH4

I don't see much reason to get the brick unless you specifically need the quad-sdi output. Add Atomos' small Ninja Star to a GH4 and you can have 10bit 422 HD for $300 + media costs without adding...

Re: Atomos announces $295 Ninja Star - HDMI ProRes recorder w/o monitor

Or for a GoPro - they were actually giving away GoPro & Ninja Star combos at their booth, so I think this is a big target market for them.

Re: Atomos Announces "Shogun" 4k recorder

I didn't ask the booth reps for details, but on the shogun banner it listed XLR input as one of the features, presumably via a breakout cable as it's too thin for on-board connectors.

Re: Question about 4k recording to Ninja blade

According to the recent zacuto interview/review the GH4 will output 10 bit 422 4k via the hdmi. At this point I don't believe any of the Atmos products support 4k though, not sure there's anything...

Re: Wide angle lens choice with BMPCC + Metabones Speed booster

That seems odd - do you have a link to their tests/results? Abelcine is still advertising the speed booster as giving an additional stop - and I can't see any reason why it wouldn't do so, it's...

I don't doubt you've reduced your kit size & weight - but I'm not clear on what you're suggesting the difference is between LED and incandescent in terms of the tools you need to modify the light....

Re: Our Tascam DR-40 Really Hosed Us

I had a similar thing happen on an H4n, but it was because the battery died about 30 minutes into the recording. We ended up having to go back and reshoot the interview, as the camera audio just...
