re: New Canon Cinema EOS C200 and 200B

I've been waiting to upgrade from my c100 mk1 and this is likely my next cam. I'll let the haters tear the specs apart first and see how the C200 holds up under the intense scrutiny.

Re: Waveform and Audio Meters c100

I know what you mean Barry... I love the c100 and I shoot tons of run and gun. I find that my eyes are tricked more than my ears, so monitoring audio via headphones is the best work around that I...

Re: What is CRAFT?

I remember back in 2006, when RED just had a pic of a race car on their webpage, with a 'coming soon' note. Lots of calls about 'vapourware' then.

The difference though was Jim Jannard had deep...

Re: C100 mark ii or C300?

I have the c100 original, and while it's nice to have the ninja option, it can be a pain to drag the ninja around. But after watching this comparison by Gary Huff, I have shot a few things in AVCHD,...

Re: C100 Mark II with Ninja

Thanks for this Gary,

The ninja can be a clunky thing to drag around and lots of times I'd rather just shoot internally. Though I haven't figured out how to get FCPX to split the AVCHD clips - and...

Re: DJI Ronin Epic Fail

Thanks Shaun,

I didn't know Dylan had a Ronin there. I may try one after all. I usually end up buying most of the stuff I need because though I'm only 20 miles or so from downtown Vancouver - it's...

Re: DJI Ronin Epic Fail

Thanks for the heads up on the Ronin Derek... I was thinking about picking one up, but I was trying to rent one first, and couldn't track one down. I don't need a rig often, but I was thinking about...

Re: need lighting input! HMI's & bright windows

Darren,

Keep us posted on this if you wouldn't mind. I was wondering if you could use some bounce back from the windows to help... it would need to be pretty big and bouncy though!

Re: Lens for C100

canon 17-55 f2.8 IS... almost the only lens you need - in my humble opinion. I take my 50mm f1.4 along and sometimes my 70-200 f2.8 non-IS... but really the 17-55 is fast, has IS, and covers a pretty...

Re: In the market for a C100..

Ahsun,

Welcome to the forum. You will find a wealth of information here to help you with every aspect of video production.

I must say that I am surprised that you would dismiss David's offer so...

Re: C100 and white balance

Kathy,

If you're forced to shoot in that kind of light, you could pick up a couple decent daylight balanced, dimmable LED panels, and a bounce card or two and kill the florescents. I have some...

Re: C100 and white balance

Kathy,

Gary rightly points out a few things... then you say that that wasn't the footage that you were talking about. There are people here sincerely trying to help you with WB.

The office shot...

Re: C100 and white balance

Agreed... there are some situations where you just have to dial it in and live with it. I found the worst lighting to be those streetlights that you couldn't stop from being yellow no matter what.

Re: C100 and white balance

Yes... you can see the kelvin temperature scale change if the lighting changes... But if the light changes, you have to re-balance anyways. In this case you're just trusting it to the camera... If...

Re: C100 and white balance

Personally when dealing with mixed sources with the C100, and run and gun, I've found the AWB to work pretty well.... usually better than me. Which I rarely did with my 5D, or my other cameras. If I...

Re: And this shows exactly how far from reality people are when hiring people for vid

Someone will do this job, at that price. When you look at who many cameras have been sold, and how many NLE systems are in use, - well, it's inevitable that someone will do it. Maybe a kid still...

Re: And this shows exactly how far from reality people are when hiring people for vid

True... I once shot a 'celebration of life' after first turning it down. The subject of the celebration was the CEO of a fairly large company. Said company needed some video work shortly after, and...

Re: And this shows exactly how far from reality people are when hiring people for vid

Personally, I've never replied to a CL ad, and it's rare that I would even look at them. Legitimate clients (at least in my market), don't look for a video professional via craigslist. I'm fortunate...

Re: Canon 5Ds

I'm really looking for a good hybrid. The C100 almost does it - expecially the mark 2 - if only I could get better than 1920x1080 jpegs. I was dragging around a 5D2, and a C100 last week trying to...

Re: C-log

Kathy,

Lots of people don't want to grade... if you use c-log, you have to grade it, or it looks like crap. I use Wide DR all the time, as opposed to c-log. I find that (so far) in most everything...

Re: Exclusivity contracts

I guess everyone's market is different... but I think that if clients are happy with your work, they really don't want to break in a new video guy... I've had one corporate client for over 5 years....

Re: Canon 1DC Price Drops $4,000 on 2/1/15

Kyle,

Agreed, it would be crazy data rates... and would likely need some kind of SSD capture. It would be nice to have like the RED compression options. As far as media cost goes... the RED...

Re: Canon 1DC Price Drops $4,000 on 2/1/15

Yes... it's funny, but until this thread started, I had disregarded the 1DC as a camera that wouldn't fit my workflow, but after spending a few days last week shooting stills on my 5D2 and video on...

Re: Canon 1DC Price Drops $4,000 on 2/1/15

I fully appreciate what Jim Jannard has done to push digital media forward - we may still be shooting HDV otherwise - but RED gear is epic-ly priced.

I have thought many times about the scarlet...
