I'm pretty certain that will not work.
Going from 60i to 24p requires a reverse telecine.
Reverse telecine means taking alternate lines of interlace and splitting them into different frames. This...

Yes, exactly. What comes out of the HV20 is already 24p embedded in a 60i stream. Convert it to ProRes 24p ... and it works fine. Convert it to "24P HDV" and suddenly it breaks. I wonder why?
HDV...

HDV is built for one purpose. It's built-in properties are set to accommodate a number of hardware requirements.
Consequently the data-rate is fixed. The frame rates are fixed and the resolutions...

I don't think this can possibly work.
HDV is simply is not engineered to work at arbitrary frame-rates and arbitrary bit-rates. Go with the ProRes workflow. And don't be tempted to scale the...

No.
Once the images are on tape, they are stored as HDV. So you can't gain quality by extracting them in a different way.
Recording live is a different matter.
If you have a means of...

You may be able to remove the pulldown at this point.
However when you edit at 60i - the 3:2 pulldown makes it is possible make a cut halfway through a 24p frame.
If you have done that, there's...

Not tried this but.....
You'll get the shallowest depth of field if the aperture is fully open.
In a brightly lit scene, I guess adding some neutral density filters could allow this to happen.

Reverse telecine is converting the 24p material in a 60i container to clean progressive 24p.
But... the 60i is really 59.94fps - and reverse telecine should be producing footage at...

Avoid doing any scaling in Compressor
Although square pixels are nice, I think it's best to keep the 24p footage at 1440x1080 - and don't be tempted to rescale it to 1920x1080. (at least not in Compressor).
It looks like Compressor...

Tim,
It may be that you don't like progressive footage (I love it)
But it could be your computer monitor.
If it is set to 60Hz and you are watching 25fps footage. Then you'll see something like...

In terms of doing something bad to a tape drive. Dropping a single frame onto a tape and then waiting a minute or so before the next is probably the worst thing imaginable.
