Re: Steadicam Docking Bracket - What's your story?

Great tips!

On dynamic balancing, even when not needed in theory, I totally believe you about learning more by spinning the rig. My own experience with static balancing is that it's hard to know...

Re: Steadicam Docking Bracket - What's your story?

Thanks Jay,

On the Solo, the hole in the handle is less than 5/8". I haven't measured it yet as I've been busy on other projects, but's it's probably 10mm or 7/16" or so.

Your dynamic...

85mm f/1.4 IS lens - real or fake?

There is a rumor that Canon will release an 85mm EOS lens with an f/1.4 aperture and Image stabilization.

[NOTE: This is a rumor only. Do not assume that it's true. But it's interesting food for...

Steadicam Docking Bracket - What's your story?

I just received my Steadicam Solo. Yay. (That $149 sale was too good to pass up.)

And I have light stands from a crummy, old Lowell piece to a really solid Matthews stand. (Plus I have music...

Re: Best Way to Show Old Photos and Articles

You can even get a plugin for Vegas that will automate the Ken Burns effect. It's really quick if you do that and then adjust things manually to optimize it.

Regarding photo motion, think about...

Re: New Panasonic GH5 Official

The noise on 10-bits could be occurring when feeding an 8-bit monitor. The bits get cut off, rather than dithered and rounded and you get some grit.

It would be interesting to run the same 8-bit...

Re: Canon 77d, t7i, m series 2017

Canon takes their time. A year or two after the 5D2 was released, I asked the Canon reps at NAB why they don't put a DSLR sensor in a true camcorder body. They didn't have an answer.

Fast forward...

Re: Xa30????

I operated the XA30 at my wife's church for a memorial service recently. Worked great!

The image is especially clean. The lens length was perfect for going very (but not comically) wide to a...

Re: Logic Pro X Alternative for Windows

Regarding ACID, it's great for loops and samples, but the last time I tried it with MIDI, it was not an acceptable solution. I use Sonar for MIDI projects.

ACID can be a bit weird to use for...

Re: Logic Pro X Alternative for Windows

Sonar and Cubase are the two audio programs that come to mind. Plus Vegas, which is known for video, but initially there were Vegas Video and Vegas Audio projects and they merged.

I've used Sonar,...

Re: Xa30????

Just got an XA30 for my wife's church. We chose it for the 20x zoom, canon colors, and the sweet spot in the prosumer market.

I haven't had much time to play with it, but it looks surprisingly...

Re: Example Handbooks for Employees working in a studio

I recommend starting with your goals. What do you...

Re: SPC, Necessity or Choice?

A retailer shot a video at my employer once for use on their sales floor. It was a one camera shoot with interviews and extensive b-roll. I was the facilitator on our end. We had three people...

Re: $4000 Challenge: Help Me Assemble a DSLR/GoPro Kit

I think that the biggest decision is "office vs. field." If the focus is on organizations, fundraising, etc., the office environment might be right. If the focus is on the land, field interviews are...

Re: $4000 Challenge: Help Me Assemble a DSLR/GoPro Kit

Regarding the pack, I have the previous version of the Lowepro Fastpack BP 250 AW II. It's more suited to a larger DSLR with a small kit of lenses, but it has a lot of versatility, is reasonably...

Re: What camera for studio band work?

FWIW, it looks like you can get an EOS-M with the 22mm f/2 lens for about $200 used. You can get a Fotodiox EF to EOS-M adapter for $40. Add the 50/1.8 lens for about $100 and you've got a nice setup...

Re: What camera for studio band work?

I'd go with a Canon. As far as the model, I'm not sure. It depends on which models have fallen below $500 in good condition on the used market.

An important note: the 50mm lens will be tight if...

Re: What camera for studio band work?

A used DSLR with a 50mm f/1.8 lens would be the best for shallow DOF on a budget.

Re: Out of Focus Fix ?

Yes, unsharp mask is a key tool. If one creates a power mask around the critical areas, such as they eyes, and performs an unsharp mask within that window, the results can be convincing.

There are...

Re: Canon 5D M IV - any good news

Great review, Benjamin.

As I recall, the 5D4 doesn't output 4K over HDMI. I wonder how a 4K setup downscaled to HD over HDMI would look? That would deliver all the cropped pixels to the video...

Re: C300MkII - How to disable audio?

Can you not turn the gain to zero? (as a temporary workaround.)
