Re: Best inexpensive green screen camera

I would recommend against any non-dedicated video camera for green screen work. No GH2 or 3. No Canon dSLR. No Sony NEX pocket cameras. If your definition of a "clean" key is flexible enough then...

Re: Best inexpensive green screen camera

Remember that many of the HDV cameras had less than full HD sensors. They used upscaling to get to the final HDV resolution (and upscaled even more to get to a 1920x1080 output). I would avoid those...

Re: Best inexpensive green screen camera

3 chip cameras such as the EX1 have advantages over single imager bayer sensors. You should be able to find a nice used one very near your budget.

Re: I don't understand these costs for 2K raw with the Odyssey

This is exactly what I'm talking Mike Schell. It seems simpler to those on the inside. Things need to be put together as packages with EVERYTHING that is needed to get a functional system going.

Re: Canon lens making a clicking noise on fs100

The 50mm 1.8 the OP has isn't an L. Its a consumer lens. That lens wasn't designed to be quiet.

Re: Canon lens making a clicking noise on fs100

The Canon consumer lenses are quite noisy.

The 50mm "L" lens and it is MUCH quieter.

Re: Do you watch the Phantom or the monitor?

I strongly recommend against flying FPV. It is much more dangerous and as mentioned can lead you to flying much beyond the radio range and/or out of the airspace limits for the craft.

Re: how to edit C100 AVCHD footage in Avid on PC

Ah.. With v5 you can import AVCHD but not AMA link to it. :(

If you have Squeeze you can use that to batch convert your files to DNxHD. If not FFMPEG is a free utility that does a great job as...

Re: how to edit C100 AVCHD footage in Avid on PC

And..

Use "Link to Volume" and not "Link to Files". Linking to the volume is more robust. Important if you have to relink the files again in the future.

Re: how to edit C100 AVCHD footage in Avid on PC

You'll need to make sure you have the AMA plugin for AVCHD installed. It isn't installed by default.

Re: f3 High hours

Go over the PL adapter with a fine tooth comb. That is one part that suffers if the owner isn't careful.

Re: how to edit C100 AVCHD footage in Avid on PC

If you have v5 or higher the workflow is:

AMA link the footage from the camera into Avid

Select the clips in the bin then right click and select "Consolidate/Transcode"

Select "Transcode" on...

Re: Do you watch the Phantom or the monitor?

If you are holding the remote you don't take your eyes off the bird.

Have someone else look at the downlink and give you verbal instructions.

If you are flying solo then you get what you get.

Re: It's not Creative Suite anymore... news from Adobe

I personally hope this single minded license model fails for Adobe. I don't use their products directly and I'm totally pissed about it.

I have feet in the commercial world and in the indie film...

Re: 25p to 24p

FYI Bill,

Its best to post a question in a single part of the forum. It gets confusing when the same thing is asked in multiple locations.

Re: 25p to 24p

Are you going to do the editing yourself? If so what software will you use? Most will allow you to mix frame rates and you will never know in the final product.

If you aren't going to edit it you...

Re: I don't understand these costs for 2K raw with the Odyssey

This model has the potential to be a PR disaster seeing how much confusion has been generated even before the first one has shipped.

I hope everyone ordering one understands what options are...

I have used one of those for FX fog and it does work. You have to use the oil based smoke fluid and not the glycol based fluid.

Make sure you don't ever use it with the bug fog fluid if you are...

Re: Best audio commentaries with insight into filmmaking process

The commentary for "Paper Moon" is very interesting. They talked a lot about the lighting they had to do for all the deep focus shots.

Re: Which camera to buy -- undecided

The XF300 has much smaller imagers and will perform worse in low light.

Churches are never lit like theaters. You will want something better than that XF300 for routine use in a church.
