Re: Act of Valor movie shot on 5D

Well to be honest Chris, that is far more of a transgression than what I experienced. As you were the sole DP working for free under the duress of 48 hour filmmaking (I know it well, having directed...

Re: Shooting with the F3 on "Key & Peele" for Comedy Central

FYI: this week's episode has a couple of pretty cinematic sketches--may be worth a look for those who haven't watched yet. It reruns virtually every day on Comedy Central.

Here's one:
Key &...

Re: Lorinda Norton's 80's video camera makes the big time!

Nah--might have been dropped or something! My batteries get a good workout.

As far as I have seen, no reputable 3rd parties (nor AB) recell the AB lithiums. Too dodgy, and prone to failure.

Re: Lorinda Norton's 80's video camera makes the big time!

No, upcoming new series. Just got word today that it won't be used, they are going with post-effect instead. However director of K&P did get to see the test clip and says he is going to press the...

Re: how to shoot this close-up

Using a shiny reflector (mylar-type finish) delivers good results on black skin. Large softboxes or white bounces can result in a flat, patchy look as the skin will reflect those as the white sources...

Re: Act of Valor movie shot on 5D

Tim...everyone can have their own opinion. I've heard a few about the movie and they range from enthusiastic to, well, Dylan! As far as the acting goes--I don't think it's really accurate to say that...

Re: Norton's 80's video camera makes the big time!

I dusted off Lorinda's camera once again for a possible Comedy Central gig (period man-on-the-street footage). Got it all rigged up for "prime-time", with a much less retro but still basically...

Re: Act of Valor movie shot on 5D

I've probably already said it but I'll say it again: today's production schedules are so relentless that the filmmaking process has been all but uprooted. Used to be, there was such a thing as a...

Re: Act of Valor movie shot on 5D

Dylan, I wasn't there for that scene, so I can't comment on it.

What I can say is this: soft takes happen. They are noted, we do another one. There's no such thing as non-printed takes these days,...

Re: Act of Valor movie shot on 5D

Well, in a sense it was EVERYONE's first day on a 5DMKII--remember, this was like three years ago; the guys were making it up as they went. At that time there were no loupes, no outboard monitors, no...

Re: What kind of lenses are you planing to use

I have the 21 through 100 in ZE and have been using them on my 1D and 5D for the past couple of years. Optically they are essentially the same as the CP2's. They are neutral to cool compared to the...

Re: 5D in the "bigtime"

I think there are a few clips around like that--there's definitely tons of footage. After the screening we saw a solid 30 minutes of behind-the-scenes tomfoolery. I saw something on the web last...

Re: 5D in the "bigtime"

I recently realized that this movie is actually my final Steadicam credit, due to the long period between shooting this movie and the release date, during which I closed shop on that particular...

Re: Does S-Log need to be graded all the time?

Can't speak to what you shoot, but as far as what you see in prime-time and on the big screen; we are going to have to agree to disagree on that end. Things are simply not what they seem. Any given...

Re: Does S-Log need to be graded all the time?

I was going to mention something about soft focus shots in studio features. Usually that's a function of a bad take that was noted and discussed and then rectified, but in the edit, the choice is...

Re: Does S-Log need to be graded all the time?

Doug, I stand by my statement. I simply haven't witnessed anyone pull their own focus with moving subjects consistently on a S35 or greater sized sensor camera to the degree I consider as accurate as...

Re: Does S-Log need to be graded all the time?

Duke, that's all assuming that you are able to use the camera itself as the meter--doesn't help much if you have to light one set while shooting on another.

I'll admit that I use my meters far...

Very interesting results, Alister. I look forward to reading and seeing more from you on this. Comparing these two cameras is very high on my list of priorities at the moment, so it's good to see...

Re: What kind of lenses are you planing to use

Alistair is correct.

It's been a confusing couple of years with the DSLR's and their different target sizes, but we are getting back to some semblance of order again with the new cameras...

Re: C 300 launch in Canada

Thank you Nigel for not only great imagery but ID'ing each shot with ISO, something I sorely missed from the videos made for the rollout event, which rendered them all but useless for me.
