Re: over both shoulders

What is the circumstance that you need both hands free that much of the time? That implies that you would have the camera locked to your body (like the picture shows), which will limit the amount of...

Re: 5D Mark II, Technicolor cinestyle and heavy color grading

To answer Ben's question, I definitely find Cinestyle useful for interiors to keep the blacks from crushing on capture. I don't tend towards the crushed look anyway (as given in David's examples...

Re: Reverse telecine (24p to 60i) question

Wassup Tames!

I'm in FC7 and have Compressor. I have the Nattress plug-ins too. Which one would best do this? Please to explain.

Reverse telecine (24p to 60i) question

Have some footage that was shot 24p that needs to be matched to a 60i program. Any thoughts on best way to conform it? Something that can interpolate the missing fields to alter the motion cadence?...

Re: Low Light Film Look

Nice job.

I wouldn't call this a "low light" look as the faces are at exposure--I'd go with moody, contrasty or low key.

For my taste, I think you could have pushed the light back a little...

Re: What to look for in regards to Deferred Contracts?

Prep days should be billed the same as shoot days. I will make concessions for scouts, travel and idle days but not prep.

The standard OT breakdown is straight time for 8, time and a half for 8 to...

Piotr: I'm sorry if I sounded grouchy. It has been a trying few years watching so many people become convinced that the only way to shoot large sensor work is wide-open, because they are all copying...

Re: ND filtering advise needed...

Do understand that in all of the years of 35mm filmmaking that preceded the advent of affordable large-sensor digital cameras, it was a rare and exceptional case when one was to shoot day exteriors...

Re: What to look for in regards to Deferred Contracts?

Uh no, you are missing the point. I assumed complete responsibility for the camera as far as my friend was concerned, but once it went on the job, the producer then assumed that responsibility on my...

Re: What to look for in regards to Deferred Contracts?

Also, and referring back to your first post: a lot of people make films with the hope that it will somehow get sold and make money, which in their mind can turn into "I'm planning to sell it and make...

Re: Example of contracts when starting a feature

Michael:

There's a lot of ground to cover here, but suffice to say that it's a good plan to have a deal memo in place for any job. If nothing else, it removes any possibility of confusion later...

Garfunkel and Oates

Well, I'll start by trying to make this relevant to the forum. Just wrapped a week shooting webisodes for HBO for the musical comedy group Garfunkel and Oates. I used two 1DMKIV's with Tokina zooms...

Re: Quick, whats the name of the Fischer Price video camera from the 80's?

Pixelvision was the common term, but I recall it said PXL-2000 on the side. Any product with 2000 in the name is aces in my book. Just shot a comedy video where we retitled a mattress store as...

Re: Project shot on Red MX with Panavision Lenses

VERY nicely shot. Kudos to all involved.

I do however wonder why it was necessary to shoot these with the Pana anamorphics. If the spot is going to be projected in theaters, the subtleties may be...

Re: Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8??

Yes, I use it with the O'Connor O Box and 4x5 filters, which do not vignette.

Re: Tokina 16-28mm f/2.8??

No Louis, this is a full-frame lens. Perhaps you are confusing it with the 11-16.

Jason, I have been shooting with this one for about a month and am very happy with it. I have the previous series...

Re: Buy a Stedicam shot for $50?

Brian, it would have probably been fun if you had given the DJ your camera and then watched him flail with trying to balance it for 15 minutes (or more), then just as he was close, say "sorry, I...

Re: Attaching gels to Arri 650 Plus

I don't know if there's still any question about the professionalism of clothespins/C47's/bullets, but if it helps any...be assured they are the weapon of choice on every feature and TV show.

Re: 5D versus 1D for lowlight filming

I routinely shoot with the 1D at 1250, occasionally at 2500 and in a big pinch, 5000. I find it to be 1.5 to 2 stops faster than the 5D (in terms of noise of course). That makes a big difference.

Re: RED PRO 18-85mm (BT) with F3

I haven't seen breathing in my ZE's, at least that I've noticed. I believe they deliver the same performance as the CP2's on that level (I've shot with both).

The main difference between the Z...
