How Large is EF Adapter???

I need to know how large the Canon EF adapter is so I can save some room in my Pelican case for when I purchase it.

Does it hurt anything to use IS on a tripod?

When I turn on my XL2 there are 2 knocks in the camcorder, is that a problem?

I really cant afford to get more tripod legs, so I will have to go with the 503HDV, it is $100 cheaper any way, do you think it will support an XL2 and 70-300 lens OK?

I just got an XL2 and the fluid head I am using for it know is just to cheap, it does not work at all, so I am looking into getting the Pro-6 head but my tripod legs I am using know are stills...
