Re: alternatives to handbrake

Why do you want to re-compress? I get that you want a smaller video for uploading. Then why not just produce another MP4 version at a lower bitrate for Vimeo using your original clips and your...

Re: Answer this: If new broadcast deliverable standards demand Super35, what about MF

Here's a hint of what's to come:

the new Sony RX0, which cannot even shoot 4K internally, puts out a clean 10bit 422 4K signal via HDMI. It is Sony's first consumer cam to do that. The spec is...

Re: Why use a Ninja Inferno?

I am not sure what you are talking about.

The GH5: internal 4K 422 10bit at 25/30p, but internally 8bit 420 at 50/60P, and externally 4K 422 10bit 50/60P via HDMI recorded by the Shogun Inferno....

Re: Why use a Ninja Inferno?

1. High compression is the enemy of heavily gradable, artifact-free video. Shooting in ProRes at very high bitrates gives you better video to work with.

2. Shooting 4K60P internally is 8bit 420....

Re: GH5 or the G9

Yes, that is the question. HDR is wonderful, but you cannot see the benefits unless the viewing device is HDR capable. Almost no monitors are - requires an enlarged color gamut and 10 bit color depth...

Re: GH5 or the G9

I am sorry, but watching recompressed 8bit streams on YouTube or vimeo will not demonstrate your claim. High compression is a big factor in banding. If the OP intends to grade a lot, 10bit matters....

Re: GH5 or the G9 - which can produce HDR videos?

No, no, it is not. 10bit comes in very handy if you do extreme grades of video. Otherwise, no, the difference between 422 and 10bit vs. 420 and 8bit is nearly invisible. The videos that "explain" the...

I am sorry, but I posted in this thread *for your benefit* how to make an HLG video in Resolve that YouTube will recognize, but you chose to ignore the instructions, despite my also posting video...

Re: Working with HLG footage

You should switch to Resolve.

Shoot in HLG, REC2020 color.

In settings, set to Resolve Color Management.

Set the input color space, timeline color space and output color space to REC.2100...

Re: Working with HLG footage

The first - all HLG - looked great in HDR, the lights and the reflective material pop and there is detail in the unlit parts. The second is awful - all blacks crushed so there is zero detail in the...

Re: Introduction to the Z90, NX80, and AX700

Most 4K TV's of any brand now support HLG, and not just those out in 2018.

Do you have one of these phones?:

The following devices have all confirmed that they support mobile HDR (and HLG) via...

Re: Report on the Yi 4K+

Absolutely - normal USB-C cable to normal USB 5V AC adaptor, min 1.5 amps, or to external USB 5V 1.5A battery pack. You can run the camera this way indefinitely, even without a battery installed.

Re: Report on the Yi 4K+

The Yi 4K+ has 4K 60P, the Yi 4K only goes up to 4K 30P. Faster frame rate, smoother action.

The Yi 4K+ provides electronic image stabilization in 4K (30P), the Yi 4K does not have stabilization...

And of course with this combo you can make HDR videos. Here is the HDR (HLG) version of the above video:

Re: Canon's First 4K Mirrorless: the EOS M50 "Late to the party"

Unfortunately, it actually never made the party:

1. Cannot even shoot 4K 30P.

2. Dual-pixel AF does not work in 4K.

Fail.

Re: 360 Re-Visited at 5.7K: The Yi 360

Each scene is one clip - with the two views. You must first stitch the clip with the Yi free software (choose optical flow for the best quality), or you can use some other $900 360 software to...

Re: Camera upgrade suggestions please

That is my biggest wish. Using an external recorder to record relatively uncompressed video (and 422)eliminates many issues, including banding from 8bit (it has been shown that it is compression that...

Re: Report on the Yi 4K+

I like the result. Since you were going for B&W, I wonder if you would have been better off shooting with the Yi flat color profile, which may give better DR.

Given the backlight, might you have...

Re: Sony AX100: 9,3 - 111,6 mm lens. Focal length (equivalent to 35 mm)?

You just need to know the crop factor for 1" sensor and multiply. Google that.
