Yesterday in the sun I was shooting 3-5 min bursts for about 30 minutes. I'd have 2-3 minutes between clips but I wasn't turning the camera off.

Speaking of the battery door, the placement is...
Speaking of the battery door, the placement is horrible for video use as you can't change batteries with a tripod plate on. For this, and the overheating issue, the battery grip is a requirement IMO....

The main benefits the 7D has over the T2i in terms of video are the inbetween ISOs and the ability to dial in specific Kelvin temps. Since you're a 7D video user already you'd know if you use those...
