Re: Follow Focus, rail system, external monitor and shoulder mount

I would be interested in the hardware minus the monitor.

You will likely have to build that yourself.

See if this video gives you any inspiration for the project:

Re: Pix240 and free run timecode

You will have to turn on the SDI remote trigger in the F3 and set the PIX to trigger off the Sony SDI record flag.

You can't use time code run trigger in the PIX if you have the camera set to TOD...

No current canon dSLR outputs a HDMI signal that is usable for recording.

Re: If SDHC card is 20mps, and camera is 24mps recording. Hows that working?

The video is played out uncompressed via HDMI. At 1080p24 the data rate is about 100MB/sec (800Mb/sec). The rate of 24Mb/sec is the compressed rate.

Re: Pelican 1560 case

Thanks Dave,

The case was waiting for me at home when I flew in last night. I'll work on putting it to use this weekend.

Re: Unwanted Timelapse Movement

Be sure to turn OFF the IS on the lens. That can cause the image to shift around between exposures. It can look like the camera is being bumped pretty hard.

You can go into the menu and choose...

Re: If SDHC card is 20mps, and camera is 24mps recording. Hows that working?

Look carefully and you will see the card is rated at 20mB/sec not 20mb second. 20mB/sec is about 160mb/sec which is much greater than what the camera requires.

Re: Who has received their PIX240?

I don't find the weight unreasonable. It weighs less than the battery I use on the F3.

The monitor on the unit is OK for framing in my opinion but not suitable for focus. Its pretty low rez. With...

Re: PL Mount VS EF Mount

There are a number of EF to PL mounts in the marketplace right now that are being used to put cine glass on Canon dSLRs.

That is exactly why I made the comment a few posts up that you will get...

Re: PL Mount VS EF Mount

It would make sense to buy the EF version of the camera and use a PL adapter when you wanted to use to cine glass.

I know its not an ideal solution but the most flexible one.

Re: Can no longer focus distance on Full zoom

Re: Can no longer focus distance on Full zoom

Backfocus needs to be set on your camera/lens combo. Hopfully you can find the instructions around otherwise it will be another trip to Sony Service.

Have you played with the PIX yet to make sure the monitor was sufficient for focus?

I shot one with a local production company for Burt's Bees with the F3.

I hope to see the final cut of it soon. It should roll out national in US and Canada.

That subject has been discussed a number of times.

Do a quick search of the forum here you'll see that the consensus is that RAW footage doesn't go to the client.

Re: Blacks are VERY black with the EOS 5D Mk2 - (or is it me)?

I've not looked at 5D2RGB since I'm in the PC world but that is exactly what I would use in lieu of QT or the editing system for the transcoding.

Re: S-Log Exposure Discussion

Avid Liquid would do the same thing. It clipped any imported video at 100% but if you captured video via firewire (or SDI) the limit was 109%. I ran into that problem when I started capturing HDV...

Re: Blacks are VERY black with the EOS 5D Mk2 - (or is it me)?

You are most welcome. Happy to share what I've figured out.

You are right on target with your observations. The reasonable limit for the EX1 is f/5.6. Beyond that softening is really noticeable....

Re: Blacks are VERY black with the EOS 5D Mk2 - (or is it me)?

Keep an eye on the images at f/16. The diffraction limit due to aperture of the 5d II is between f/8 and f/11. So its a couple stops further down the iris range than the cameras you mention but it...
