Re: GL-1: Good Luck So Far
Wow! I really missed my old GL1. I purchased it back in 2002 and sold it last year. It recorded my two daughters growing up! I later switched to Canon DSLRs as my kid no longer interested being video...

Always a hot topic
Just buy and use the lens you can afford. There will always some regrets and surprises. I use Tamron 17-50 (image stablization), Samyang fisheye and a Canon 55-250 for family video. Quite good...

The authorized dealer of Panasonic in Hong Kong operates some retailer shops for all its electronic products including GF2. They can be honest and I may ask them tomorrow about the record limit of...

Korean Fisheye lens
The greatest advantage of 550D is that you may try different lenses. I have recently bought a Korean fisheye lens (Samyang). It is cheap. No auto focus but the quality of the lens is good. It really...

continuous focus mode in EP2
I have found the answer myself. I have already bought the EP2 with the 17mm lens. I have also tried the GF1 with 14-140 of my friend. The continuous focus mode in EP2 is useless for video as it hunts...

Canon 50mm 1.8
You may consider this cheap lens if you still have problems between Sigma 30mm and Canon 50mm 1.4. The performance of this Canon 50mm 1.8 is just wonderful regarding its price.

4 lenses already!
I have recently purchased a Sigma 150mm maco at HK$4,500 (US$577). It is not just a maco lens for shooting little insects. It produces very sharp image and very good colour. It could be used to shoot...

Canon 17-40 f4L (HK$5,500)
I have recently tried Canon 17-40 f4L and found that it is better than the Tamron 17-50 and the only drawback (at least to me) is that the Canon lacks image stablization. Auto focus is silent and...

I totally agree! A good external mic, stablization during handheld, panning on the tripod, and even the smoothness of the focusing ring can be more a concern for me in shooting video.
I have...

30mm 35mm 50mm are too similar
I do not own them but I believe the performance of Sigma 30, Canon 35 f2 and 50 f1.4 are quite similar in video. I have tried Canon 24mm f.2.8 and 50mm f1.8 and I found that there is very little...

More about the Tamron 17-50 VC
I fully agree that the VC version is a great lens. The focusing ring is smooth; much better than the Tamron 18-270.
The sharpness of the lens is already very good for HD video. I only check with...

Keep the Canon 24mm 2.8f
Having used the Tamron 17-50 VC for a few days, I decided to keep the Canon 24mm 2.8f since it is light in weight and can be my one lens option for some shooting occassions.
My 3 lenses are :

Good focusing wheel
The focusing wheel is good for manual focusing. I don't think it is too loose or tight. The diameter of the lens is bigger than my 24mm 2.8f and I think it is quite easy to focus.
To be honest, I...

You also need a directional mic to obtain good audio. A video light or any DIY lighting stuff to create certain special effect.

Tamron 17-50 2.8 VC
I have purchased the above lens for US$474.36 in Hong Kong. I like the lens.
17mm is wide enough for me. Images are sharp and bright. The VC is very effective.
But the auto focus is not very...
