Hi Neil,
Sounds like you are frustrated! Here's a couple of things to think about or try... Most TV sets (and monitors) will overscan the TV signal they display. The 5% or so you mention is reasonable. Fancy (professional) monitors have an underscan switch which allows seeing the entire frame. I'm not sure if your monitor has this or not. Also, its not clear if you've tried this, but right-click on the Preview Window and select "Simulate Device Aspect Ratio." This may help solve the "squished" picture. Hope this helps.... Cheers, -Matt |
thanks Edward

That's the most concise thread of all time. :-)

Would have been shorter but the forum software requires a minimum of 10 characters. My first attempt was "Yes." :-)

problem: no audio while capturing.
While I'm capturing, I only get a video preview but no audio. Is there some option I should be selecting to hear the audio during capture? Or is this normal in Vegas?
EDIT: oops, I found it... it was just in the capture window options. |
Jacket Picture creation in DVDA2
Anyone using this, how is it? Is this for producing the whole insert or just exporting stills to another software?
Thanks Vince |
sorry that should be DVDA3
sorry that should be DVD3A not 2
|
It's for specifying an image that should be displayed when the playback of the DVD is stopped. Not all DVD players support Jackets. Others require that it be turned ON in the menus. It has nothing to do with exporting images or creating inserts.

Vegas 5: Codec Reassurance
Hi. This is a really stupid question, but I just wanted to make sure of something. I think I'm using the default Sony DV codec but I'm not sure. I have the option "not use third party codecs" on, and I have the "use Microsoft codec" off. According to the manual and the helpfile, this should ensure that I'm using only the Sony DV codec right?
The only reason I ask, is that when I click on a file in the media pool, the properties in the taskbar only list "DV" as the type of codec used. This means Sony DV, right? Thanks. |
Do you mean you want to change the pitch over time? Through something
like key framing or external automation? Which version of Vegas? I don't have Vegas with me at the moment so I can't check the first option for you. |
As long as "not use third party codecs" is on and "use Microsoft codec" is off then you are using the Sony codec.
|
What kind of "breakup". Does this happen with when the "movie" inside the
button is repeating back to the beginning? p.s. I've renamed your thread. Please use descriptive titles. A title like "Dvda2 ?" does not tell anybody what your question is. A lot of people will simply not read such a thread for that reason alone. |
Also keep in mind that by default the preview screen in Vegas will display in
square pixels. Make sure you select "emulate device aspect ratio", it should look normal. As Matt explained, any consumer TV will chop of a bit of the sides and top and bottom. That is normal. |
Thanks for the thread tip...The video starts ok then about 30 sec in the brake up starts. in this project I have to buttons they both have the break up. its like a flash or a jump cut and some of the other break up has lines through it. the cut of music is about 4 min. long is there a default on the amount of time the video plays or is it the same amount of time as the cut of music
Thanks Vince |
thanks Edward
|
It should run for as long as the movie lasts, if it then repeats it may show a
slight hiccup. Are you running the latest update for DVDA 3 (3.0a)? With what are you playing this DVD? If you can try it on both your computer (with a software DVD player like WinDVD or PowerDVD) and a couple of external players. This to see if the problem is with the disc or with the player. |
Am running DVDA2 I see the problem on different players and I will check it with power DVD
Thanks Vince |
How To SetUp Vegas - VideoEditing WorkStation (from Windows to Start working)
Just...
1 Hardware - all partitions of all physical Hard Drives should be in NTFS file system 2 When you install new, or formatting old OS - at formatting do not use Quick format, and when you Install on new partition on/or new HDD - never use Quck format After finishing installation you need install in the following order: 1 Mother Board drivers - first chipset drivers, second - all others drives 2 VGA Drivers 3 Microsoft .NET Frimework 1.1 SP-1 (includet on WindowsXP SP-2 Integrated CD, on Vegas 6 CD, or you always will be download it from Microsoft Corporation web site) 4 DirectX 9.0c or later (inclueded on WindowsXP Service Pack-2, on Vegas 6 CD, or in Microsoft web site) 5 AntiVirus Software After that all critical updates from Microsoft Windows Updates site Next - codecs and Software Codecs 1) Install DV codec, exsample, MainConcept 2) DivX - if you use DivX/XviD files in your projects, and/or use compressions in to. If you compress on to, exsample, in to DivX only - install only this codec, becouse DivX will open XviD files without problems. 3) Install AC3 ACM Decompressor - for viewing files with ac3 sounds, and... to OPEN ac3 audio and VOB files in Vegas (Stereo, or 2.1 only) 4) Windows Midia codec 5) NEVER dont use codec-pacs (example - Nimo, K-Lite, etc...) Software WinRAR - supported all archive-formats (RAR, ZiP, ACE, etc...) WinAMP or other audio player Multimedia Video Player - I'm use Light Alloy - its small and quickly, you can use BS Player (I never use WMP becous he wery hard) QuickTime - to use *.mov files in tour projects Power DVD - to viewing DVD, Why Power DVD? Becouse it simmulate hardware DVD players - if i mount DVD Image in to my virtual DVD (Im use Daemon Tools) and it work property - as im sure 100 % - on home DVD-player its will work. After this install Software your use (pictures viewers (example - ACDSee, PicaView and etc...), photoeditors and other) After This just install you favorite NLE software - if you all install propertly you never see any problems and you software will work property and you never see crashes Sorry for my english |
In your second section you need to include the .NET Framwork 1.1 SP1 update and DirectX 9.0c (the current version)
Technically, NONE of the "Codec" section is needed. I don't see a reason to install a MainConcept DV codec when I'm going to be using the Sony codec anyway, for example. Same with DivX - don't touch it, don't need it. Otherwise, it appears to be a decent list and order of install. |
I don't think you would really have problems doing a quick format.

To add to your list: You may want to partition the drive your operating system is on. For example: Partition A (10GB or more) - for the OS Partition B (10-20GB) - put program files and my documents here. (It takes a few tweaks to move those things to this partition. Partition C (the rest) - store video and large files here. Avoid putting small files here to prevent fragmentation issues. If you partition your drive this way, you can re-install windows without having to lose your data. |
Im use Canopus Playback_only codec becouse I have video coded in it, and Vegas d'nt understand video in this files.
For what i need MC DV codec? - to open and work with Vegas video files in Virtual Dub (sometimes it it is necessary) Besides is i recommended to use a minimum 2 physical hard disks, first for OS and programs, second only for video I have 3 disks: 1 IDE 80Gb with 3 partitions a) 20Gb - System and software b) 40 Gb - Video bank - footages, motion backgrounds, etc... c) 20 Gb - bank audio (music) 2 2x200Gb SATA in Striping set (one hard drive 400 Gb) - for video editing only |
Vegas 5 not recognizing camera?
I am using Vegas 5.0b and have been for several months with no problem. However, this afternoon, I plugged in my firewire, the computer asked me which program to use for capture, and I chose Vegas as always. The problem is, the capture window didn't come up, and when I hit the capture icon, it is showing as not recognizing a connection between my PD170 and Vegas.
I rebooted, and now the computer isn't even recognizing when I plug in my firewire cable. I've tried several times in several different ways. When I go into Vegas and open the capture screen, a Vegas pop up window comes up that says, "The device VfWWDM32.dll could not be opened. Please make sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another person or program." I'm stumped -has anyone had this issue or something similar? I've rebooted several times. I don't show any conflict in device mgr. HMMMMM |
vfwwdm32.dll is a part of Microsoft WDM Image Capture drivers
Contained in Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003 A problem in the Microsoft WDM Image Capture drivers If you use WindowsXP just go to Start -> Control Panel -> System -> On to opened "System Properties" window go to "Hardware" tab and choose "Device Menager" In this "Device Menager" window open "Sound, video and game controller", select the "Legasy Video Capture Devices" and press Del key (just delete this item) after this delete a "Media Control Devices" On the top of Window click on "Scan for hardware changes" button Windows have finde & reinstall all automatically After this I recommend reinstall the Vegas Software PS Sorry for my English |
Bezier fun
Here is a short intro I made for one of my home movies.
http://www.ibms.sinica.edu.tw/%7Esro...l%20puzzle.wmv This started out as a simple idea I had one sleepless night but it turned out to entail much more than I anticipated. I had to cut out about 300 puzzle peices with the Bezier mask. Then the fun began. I could only render 6 pieces at a time or my computer froze. So each puzzle represents over 150 render hours of 1.5-2 hours each. Some of the generated media is still jerky, even with 8x supersampling. Any ideas to smoth out the text zoom would be appreciated. Special thanks to Edward who helped me to solve some serious problems I was having when I was ready to pull a Tyson. |
Steve, I really enjoyed it! Very cool effect from the beginning to the end. Something I should look into during my break.
Also, who is the artist for the "Over the Rainbow" (correct title?) song? Second time I've heard that song and it is very good. Great choice. |
That cover of Over the Rainbow is by Norah Jones.

Are you running the latest patch for DVD Architect 2? (ie 2.0b)
|
I down loaded it, but at the last second I aborted it. I did not know if it would mess up the DVD projects I was working on
Vince |
Good to see you got it all working.
How are you zooming the text? |
yea... I want to change pitch over time...
version 6. I mean, I can do it in audio editing program like, but then every time I change cuts (and timing) in my project, I need to go back in audio program and do a pitch, export file, blabla, which will be very annoying. I hope there is a way I can do it directly in Vegas. |
I just scaled the text to zero on the text properties in the video media generator and then keyed it back to a scale of 1 after several seconds.
|
Try this instead:
Leave the Generated Media at 1 (i.e. full size). Scale the text using Track Motion instead (first keyframe shrunk down, last keyframe full size). |
Thanks Edward, much smoother that way.
|
Thanks Newdjeen,
Your solution didn't work, so I suspect the firewire cable itself. I hope its just the cable that went bad. If not, I guess I'll have to take some other drastic measure. |
I have an issue with Vegas 4.0 and my vx2000 camera. When I plug in the firewire cable into the camera, I get the "ding-dong" as windows recognizes a device plugged in, but the capture application does not see the camera. I have a second camera, thank the Lord, and it is recognized no problem on connection, so it's not software or cable issues. Armatos diagnosed it over the phone as a probable issue with the camera's firewire circuitry. They said it would be easy for them to determine in their shop if it was an easy or expensive fix. I'm now waiting for a few weeks' block of time when I can do without the camera so I can send it to them. The last time I sent a camera to Sony to fix a headphone jack, it was a llllleeeennnnnggggttthhhhyyy nightmare. It may have been them that fried the firewire circuit out of spite. I'm hoping that trying Armatos will be much better.

Hey Neil, did you solve this problem? I'm asking because it looks like I'll have a project very similar ... Thanks!
Cheers, -Matt |
the DVX is a tricky lil bastard to set up with vegas..
Vegas natively does NOT initiate an aspect ratio based on ur project.. u can have a variety of aspects within the project... in fact with teh DVX, it will give u the vertical black bars as the DVX does not tag its 16:9 footage as such. even when squeeze is on.. So Vegas doesnt see a 16:9 tag/aspect and only sees 4:3, coz thats what the DVX is giving it.. u must change the aspect ratio within the media manager or within the clip itself as well as the project properties.. (theres a script to speed this process) then when rendering make sure "do not letterbox' is NOT ticked.. u want it strecthed and metatagged as 16:9 (vegas will do this) |
That's no reason to abort a download. Download is NOT the same as installing.
However you should be fine. These are minor updates to fix bugs etc. It is not like going from 2 -> 3 (which is a major update, but should also work). |
Inserting time and having markers move too?
Hi,
Is there a way to insert time and also have the markers move with the tracks? I've tried with auto-ripple on but that doesn't do it. I have a note that I saw it work once but haven't been able to figure out what I did. Thanks, Tony |
