Help please, desperate problem with VASST Celluloid order.

I just placed an order for VASST Celluloid for Vegas 5/6 and got a confirmation email. The problem is I DID NOT get a license key or installer file in the confirmation email. Can someone please help me? Should I have gotten a license key and installer file in my email, or how does it work? I expected to recieve a license key and download link immediately for VASST Celluloid plus the ReelPak1 for Vegas 5/6. What is going on?

Matt Howell May 17th, 2005 05:39 PM

ok, I just got a second email from Mannie with a license key.

Kyle Ringin May 17th, 2005 05:55 PM

Matt,
Good to hear you got it sorted. I bought Celluloid last week and was impressed by the fast response - it must have been about 3 min from when I finalised the order to when I recieved the key and Reelpak file - impressive.

Btw, I found Celluloid great. It was just what I was after.

Cheers,
Kyle

The problem was gmail. Gmail is blocking emails for some reason. Everything is ok now. There was real person at VASST who answered my phone call and straightened it out for me. Big kudos to VASST for helping me get this worked out.

Patrick King May 17th, 2005 06:09 PM

Check the VASST site and look for the following Vegas project files (.veg):

Text Crossing the Screen

KaraOke Text Wipe effect

CRT Text

Wordproccesor effect

Type effect

Tickertape

Note: Copy the exact text above into the Search box, otherwise it'll take weeks to review all the Veggies on VASST's "improved" website (not to complain, they provide a valuable service for free; it just used to be easier to find things before they "improved" it).

Ian Stark May 17th, 2005 09:10 PM

Patrick, many thanks for that list. Still have four hours!

To accelerate your editing flow...

Hi Jeff,

Since you seem keen on the same day concept have you considered a Firestore or similar device so that there's no need to capture tape at 1:1?

You can simply edit directly from the Firestore HDD.

While not directly related to your question, it's still an angle that is relevant and would speed things up for your same day business model.

sincerely,

ian

Inside Vegas, do you render a seperate AC3 file for the audio? (And choose the right 5.1 template within the AC3 rendering).
And do yoy combine that AC3 file together with the MPEG2 file to make a dvd within DVD-Architect?

Marshall Staton May 18th, 2005 05:50 AM

How to use clips from DVD in Vegas 5?

I'm working on a special report for a local news station and am trying to get some short clips from a dvd into vegas. If anyone can steer me in the right direction i would really appreciate it.

Thanks
Marshall

Edward Troxel May 18th, 2005 07:08 AM

You can probably just drag the VOB file onto the timeline. However, you won't get audio if it was encoded as AC3. You can use software to convert the DVD back to AVI. However, my preferred method is to simply hook up the DVD player to my converter/camera/deck and just capture normally via firewire.

Edward Troxel May 18th, 2005 07:09 AM

Yes. Render MPEG2 and AC3 (picking all appropriate settings) in Vegas.

Load the MPEG2 file in DVDA. If the files are named correctly it should automatically pick up the AC3 file. However, I would double-check to verify and change it if needed.

Edward Troxel May 18th, 2005 07:11 AM

I agree with Ian. One (or more) of those devices would be perfect for a same-day edit. I would probably copy the files to the computer's hard drive but the copy process would be MUCH faster than the "capture" process.

Darrin McMillan May 18th, 2005 07:19 AM

ah ha

Thanks...Ya I wasn't rendering the sound file as a seperate AC3.I will try that. Is that pretty straight forward to do? Thanks again.

Edward Troxel May 18th, 2005 07:47 AM

Just a matter of picking File - Render As - AC3 as the format and then pick the correct preset and/or manually change the settings.

Ken Koproco May 18th, 2005 09:22 AM

Thank you!

Thanks Edward! I will look at my manual and my Instant Vegas 5 book that I have and start learning how to use the two keyframes technique and then learn how to do the photo tricks. I'll have to find a sound effect of a camera shutter to use like they do on the show. I just love that effect. Thanks again!

Ken

Thanks guys. Yes, I'm aware of the Firestore devices and someday I'll have to go in that direction. It would be perfect for this application. - Jeff

Edward Troxel May 18th, 2005 09:48 AM

You might also want to look through my newsletters. The link is below my name. Also, I have a "camera shutter" sound.

Darrin McMillan May 18th, 2005 09:57 AM

Thanks

Thanks a million for your help!

Brian Kennedy May 18th, 2005 01:20 PM

Darrin - also make sure you use that AC3 stream for audio in DVDA. In other words, if your MPG has an audio file associated with it, it will drop on the timeline by default, and you'll have to replace it with the appropriate AC3 file instead.

In the future, render your MPEG2's as video-only to avoid this. Choose the appropriate "... video only for DVD Architect" preset in the drop-down menu.

Darrin McMillan May 18th, 2005 02:46 PM

:)

Great advice everyone. Worked like a charm. Sounds amazing.

Edward, is this approach lossless?

Brian

Edward Troxel May 18th, 2005 08:14 PM

You're starting with MPEG2 - you've already lost. So the question is: do you capture standard or try locating some software that will convert it for you by uncompressing each frame from MPEG2 and recompressing to DV-AVI. You could probably argue that either method is better. I usually opt for the "easy" way out and connect the DVD player to my deck, hit capture on the computer, and hit play on the DVD player.

Export to Flv from Vegas Possible?

Is it Possible to Render out FLV in Vegas?

Thanks

Edward Troxel May 19th, 2005 07:11 AM

I don't believe you can do so directly. You should be able to frameserve to another application that can, though.

Harry Mullins May 19th, 2005 07:18 AM

This is what I thought. Thank you for clearing it up..Thanks

Jeremy Rank May 19th, 2005 09:42 AM

All you need to do to use the clips in vegas is to change the .vob extension to .mpg, then you should be able to import them directly into vegas

Harry Mullins May 19th, 2005 10:04 AM

Just Load the Vob file into VirtualDubmod and save out the AC3 to Wav then load that into Vegas,Vegas will import Vobs just not the AC3 Muxed with it..

That's basically what I said up above. However, there's really no reason to change the extension - you can just drag the VOB straight to the Vegas timeline. But it's STILL not a good format for editing. And AC3 audio won't be imported.

John Rofrano May 20th, 2005 02:54 PM

I use SWISHmax with the Typewriter effect when I need to do this. Just drop the SWF file in Vegas and you have an instant typewriter title. It even has a cursor that follows the typing.

I have an interview that has a constant hum sound in it from a bad connection.

What techniques can I use to remove this or make it sound better?

thanks DVI!

thanks DVI!

Sony make a noise reduction module--if anything can do it it should. It isn't cheap--I think 199--but its an excellent investment.

for a beta/digibeta do NOT use the mpeg (DVD) .. use the avi ..
you can get anything transferred for $$$$ ... if you want to save $$ .. find a place that has either beta or digibeta machines hooked up to their NLE .. if they use avid then you would go to avids site and download their CODEC (meridian ?) if they use FCP or other NLE with decklink then go to decklink and download their blackmagic codec ... you have to render out at 720x486 (not 720x480) using the codec that matches their NLE to beta/digibeta deck ... you deliver to them a external 1394 drive and they'll transfer the files to their HD's then onto beta or digibeta. figure around 200hr .. if 30 min piece figure 45 min ... if you do not render it out to their NLE/hardware card codec then figure another 1-2 hr of rendering time on their avid/fcp at 200hr ... also note that the new rendered file will be approx 60-65gigs

Face Blur

What is the easiest way to blur a face or a product brand using Sony Vegas 5

Edward Troxel May 22nd, 2005 12:12 PM

Look at Vol 1 #12 of my newsletters. I have an article in that issue about blurring faces. Check the link under my name.

Glenn Chan May 22nd, 2005 12:54 PM

Brent,
Something you can try:

Use a comb filter.
http://www.dv.com/news/news_item.jht.../2002/rose0902 dv.com requires registration.
Multi-tap delay filter in Vegas should do the delay for you.

Or you could try using a bunch of parametric filters.

Milt Lee May 22nd, 2005 04:27 PM

Thanks for the advice!! I really appreciate it. I had a sense that an AVI file would be best, but I didn't really know the mechanics of it. Now I do!!!

Thanks again,
Milt

Hmm...so I'm thinking further about this and wondering - Since I use Vegas 6.0 and I don't see either of these CODEC's in the rendering options - my next question is - will VEGAS render in these other codecs and what's the process for inporting these? Is there someplace that I need to save the codec once I download it?

thanks again,
Milt

Overlays

I'm struggling to get into overlays, parent / child tracks, and masks. I can't get it yet... the tracks' hierarchy of what affects what in what way, and part of my problem is not understanding the lingo.
I guess my 1st question is ,"What's a 'garbage mask'?"
Thanks, I'm afraid more will follow.
I'm very excited about the potential these effects have. I'm still using Vegas 4.0e, as it is obviously way smarter than I am.

Glenn Chan May 22nd, 2005 08:30 PM

In Vegas, you can get the same effect as a garbage mask by using:
Cookie cutter OR
bezier masks (introduced in V5)

You can find information about these in the manual.
