Hi Evan, what are you going to use your XH-A1S for, hobby - business etc?
I’d wait till you get it and try it out, to find out what else you need, a tapeless unit, another bigger battery, tapes, UV filter etc. before you think of buying the HVR. Cheers.

So I did end up getting both. I jumped into the XHA1 prior to really reading up on it, and had no way to easily transfer video. So found a really good deal on that Sony, and got a HDMI recorder. And I can use the Sony as a backup. Shot some video with the XHA1. REALLY impressed. Great camera!
