Re: Want to record a simple midi file
If you're on a Mac, Garage Band might do the trick. Sonar Artist is the $99 version of Sonar and would definitely handle it.
But I'd bet that there are many good free solutions available for this...

Re: Want to record a simple midi file
You're looking for MIDI Sequencer Software
Here's a place to start.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_MIDI_editors_and_sequencers
Most musicians use Sonar, Logic, or Cubase, but...

Re: Recording SFX advice.
I was thinking the same, Rick. That's why I had mentioned the NT1A above. Cheap, quiet, and delivers a hot signal. Of course, it's cardioid only, won't fit in a blimp, is heavy, and doesn't handle...

Re: c300 Mark II CLog2 Nitty Gritty
I think the "proper" shutter angle depends on the use case. For high speed shooting that will be slowed to 24 fps for a film look, 180 degrees would be correct. For high frame rate playback at 120...

Re: 24, 30 or 60?
I'd shoot this at 24 fps - and I'd avoid doing a pan without following motion like they did in the opening at 0:05. It looks like they shot this at 24 fps with a fast shutter on some scenes to...

Re: Portable Interview Insulation
Regarding the cement floor, note that most studios use wooden floors rather than carpet as carpet absorbs frequencies unevenly. It's preferred to use wood on the floor and absorption on the ceiling....

Re: Canon C300 Green Cast / Green Footage
Please bring your C300 to a Donald Trump event and use DR Wide as an extreme test case. (I noticed a green cast on his hair on a news report just last night.)
But seriously, I wonder if this...

Re: Wireless system with two lav mics
Good points, Roger,
For me, I use a wire whenever possible. A $20 cable easily beats a $1,000 wireless system - except when using a wire isn't an option. An on-person recorder, wireless, and...

Re: Wireless system with two lav mics
Monitoring isn't necessarily just about the levels. You want to hear if there was clothing noise, cellphone buzz, a crackling connector, or some background sound that ruins the take.
Of course,...

Corp Event in Camas, WA (Portland, OR market)
On November 17th, my employer needs a shooter/editor to do a one day, quick-turnaround job. I normally do this job, but won't be available. We will pay market rates.
We expect three visits: 1) To...

Re: A little lesson on shotgun mics??
The hijack is worth it if you get a good result. :)
BTW, I once did a series of interviews with a total novice on the recorder - and the results were perfect. The interviews were seated and we...

Re: A little lesson on shotgun mics??
I think you'll be okay with the student - if he has the right attitude. And if you can practice during rehearsals. And if you can do re-takes when he says, "I screwed up". (Make sure that he feels...

Re: A little lesson on shotgun mics??
The MKH-50 should be ideal as it's a lightweight supercardioid with high sensitivity and low noise. (Though I admit that I haven't used one personally.)
One thing to stress with your audio guy is...

Re: Travel Tripod
Good to hear about the snap locks. Sounds like they use good, tight spacers inside as well. The monopods with twist locks and loose spacers can really rattle, which might work for a photo, but not...

I don't know about these sticks, but Carbon Fiber isn't always better than aluminum.
Some time ago, I did a hands-on comparison of many monopods, and the CF versions often weighed no less than...

Re: Canon EOS C300 Mk. II release -an "unboxing"
The best thing about unboxing videos is that they help you re-package the product properly if it ever has to be returned or sent back for service. Things often come apart easier than they go back...
