Re: About to make the jump to drone videography...

The Phantom is more of a consumer/fun flyer. It will get decent shots. You can read plenty of stories of Phantoms suddenly flying away from their owners never to be seen again. You can also find...

Re: Indoor interviews: Lav? Or boomed mic?

I prefer boom audio if the room isn't too noisy. I run a AT4053 on a boom with a fishpole holder just above and in front of the speaker (pointing back at them). If there is any question about noise...

Re: Busting Myths about the FAA and Unmanned Aircraft

Wow.. Based on that the FAA will need to update their page to say "Never mind". :/

Re: ProRes codec available on Windows

The part in bold above is a serious problem for anyone editing on the PC side of the fence. It won't be a real improvement unless they support containers other than MOV.

Re: ProRes codec available on Windows

FFMPEG is an awesome utility and it does work quite well. It isn't operator friendly unless you use one of the readily available GUIs.

FFMPEG isn't "approved" by any organization so it isn't...

Re: ProRes codec available on Windows

That looks interesting. I wonder if this has been fully blessed by Apple.

One thing to remember with using the MOV wrapper on a Windows machine is Apple has yet to fix the gamma shift bug in...

Re: New PC for...everything.

I don't have liquid cooling on the video card. The GTX670 card I am using isn't that loud. At least the Asus version I have isn't.

Moving the fan contro to the motherboard gave me more control...

Re: Busting Myths about the FAA and Unmanned Aircraft

Well, one thing is for sure, You can fly INSIDE the mall all you want and charge as much as you feel like for it with NO fear of the FAA. ;)

Re: New PC for...everything.

I'm using the Corsair H80 on the 3930k. I have had one problem with it I should report. The fan control failed on the unit after about 6 months of use. I moved the fans over to the CPU plug on the...

Re: New PC for...everything.

I went with liquid cooling on my last two builds. I won't do another air cooled CPU cooler. My i7-3930k runs cool and is practically silent until I crank up the rendering. Even at full tilt it is not...

Re: Status 7/7Q

As an aside and a bit OT, if you have the later versions of MC you can consolidate ProRes as native on a PC. You just can't render it out.

Re: Switching between inputs

I did find the multi-image feature very useful on my most recent interview setup.

Hopefully in the next firmware choosing between inputs will be easier than scrolling through them using the small...

Re: Noisy EX3 shots

CINE4 is better to boost the bottom end which leads to a better image in low light. Noise will be more apparent using that curve. Use it only when necessary.

Re: Noisy EX3 shots

Did you by chance shoot this with CINE4? That gamma curve lifts the dark areas and will make the noise a lot more noticable.

To minimize the look of the noise in the blacks it is best to use a...

Re: Status 7/7Q

I'm OK with either compressed codec. I would prefer DNxHD since I edit in Avid but I can handle either one.

Can you please reference where the delay in the compressed codec was announced well...

Re: 4K Editing Software

Looks like Resolve Light can output up to UHD (3840 x 2160) according to the compare page. Is that close enough?

It can do simple cuts and dissolves out of the box.

Re: Timecode Sync FS700

On my shoot yesterday we used a F3 and a FS700 for an interview setup. Since the FS700 doesn't accept timecode we used a PIX240 to record the FS700 and took TC from the F3 to drive the TC on the PIX....

Re: Status 7/7Q
