Re: Free Music Video BTS Breakdown - 5D mk 3

Nice work Logan.
I like the band a lot as well, a bit reminiscent of one of my favorites - Crowded House and the Finn Brothers.
After shooting with a pair of 5Ds for several years I just added a...

Re: New from Black Magic Design - 4K Cinema Camera

I'm going to start at one end of the spectrum, and that is the one where I met all the folks I have here and at DVX.
The XL line and the DVX were the cameras that these sites were founded on....

Re: New from Black Magic Design - 4K Cinema Camera

You have to read the whole post Bob <g>. I say how we bought a pair of GH3s for 60p and now that we have slow motion.... I actually mean "we" when I say we...not the royal we.

Re: New from Black Magic Design - 4K Cinema Camera

I'm not sure if you're asking me that, but the C100 has neither ability.

Re: New from Black Magic Design - 4K Cinema Camera

I think this is a very reasonable point.
My $.02 - it all comes down to what you do with your cameras.

If, as seems to be the case with many (most?) of the original BMC buyers, you're all about...

Re: C100 VS GH3, thoughts?

And it has the very important 1080 60p which is why we picked up a pair of them for production rather than the C100.
I've got a short film premiering at the cinema tomorrow that has 2 5Ds and 2...

Re: Shane Hurlbut ASC conducting “The Ultimate Camera Test”

"Sometimes it is the small differences that make the difference between a good film and a great film."

I agree with what you say Alister except this point as it regards slight camera differences....

Re: Black Magic Cinema Camera

I do it a lot in FCPX with pieces similar to this.
We do a lot of outdoor scenes that depend on the right conditions that just don't exist in day to day production.
Moving masks are really simple...

Re: Metabones Speed Booster

It could certainly make a big difference for us.
Canon cameras and Canon lenses but with no 60p we just acquired a pair of GH3s.

I got them with a 20mm Lumix and a 45mm Zuiko and was just about...

Re: Metabones Speed Booster

I was reading about it recently, It almost sounds magical Andy.

But having just picked up a pair of GH3s to go with our Canon's it could be just great.
Using all my favorite L glass at actual...

Re: C100: 1080p/50 AVCHD 2 (Maybe One Day?)

You can shoot 60p 1080 at either 28mbs AVCHD or 50mbs.MOV with the GH3, so it's not the container that kept Canon from providing it.

Not to get into slamming the C100 or C300, because I'd love for...

Re: C100: 1080p/50 AVCHD 2 (Maybe One Day?)

I absolutely love the look of the new Canon sensor but I really don't like an either or choice as a professional and as a pretty dedicated customer over the years.
The lack of that simple and...

VF Solution for the GH3

I mentioned I was talking to the Hoodman people trying to come up with a solution for a VF to fit the new camera.
They were unable to get one to do tests, so I was giving them measurements and I...

Re: maximising depth of field? limit of dslrs for video

I would never call him names. I just said that claiming that sensor size doesn't impact DOF is inaccurate, and stated why in my experience. Lot's of things, foreground background proximity, iris,...

Honestly, I just passed it off and trusted the weather sealing.

Re: Frozen Wet GH3

Seriously Nate, it was a frozen block when I got in the door and passed it to my wife. I couldn't shut it off because the on/off switch was encrusted in ice with everything else. A very well made...

Re: Frozen Wet GH3

Everything was 60p, Natural, -4 -4 -1 -5 shot with the 20mm 1.7 with a .09 ND filter probably averaging between f/2.8 and f/3.5. And given the conditions I relied on the AFs to grab focus on the fly....

Frozen Wet GH3

Put the weather sealing to a test in a snowstorm that ended up dumping 2 feet at the farm.
Filmed the horses this time and I was amazed at how useable the little EVF was.
Like the Snowshoeing film,...

Re: maximising depth of field? limit of dslrs for video

I didn't watch the tute but if that's what it says then it's not accurate.

Sensor size most definitely impacts DOF.
While you can certainly get shallow DOF with a small sensor camera using long...

Re: GH3 Battery

In the VT Snowshoeing piece I posted I was out in snow and cold for two hours and because I was snowshoeing and chasing animals, I never shut the camera off. It was reading full when I got back.

Re: Snowshoeing with the GH3

It was FCPX Ron, 60p 50MB edited into a 24p 1080 timeline. I had a .09 ND filter on so I could have more iris.
I'm almost shooting it dead flat and I would normally just add an exposure curve to...

Re: Snowshoeing with the GH3

Hey Ron,

Yeah, they're my pack, short one. The eighth was recovering at home.
Everything was with the 20mm 1.7, handheld, 1080 60p.
I was actually doing a remix of the music in my studio and the...

Snowshoeing with the GH3

Got to the farm for the holidays and had a chance to test some settings on the GH3. Ultimate contrasty conditions, shoe and gun.

Re: Canon 1DC price

"The 1D C is 12K USD (or rather 11999) and not 14K USD."

I was referring to the C300. $14k no 60p.
