Re: f3 to cinema conversion
80K? Right now, the answer would be Alexa. I'm interested in seeing what the F65 will do, but I think it's a good year away from being a mature product.
If you are talking a complete shooting...

Re: f3 to cinema conversion
"Going that extra mile" is likely not a function of resolution, it's just quality cinematography. It would be interesting if you compiled a list of the recent movies you admired visually and...

Re: avoiding dark under eyes when lighting
It's entirely possible to illuminate an actor to exposure without a catch appearing in the eyes--it just requires a very large, uniform soft source. Ambient daylight in a room is a good example of...

Re: Gel for LED lights
The problem is that you get what you pay for with LED lights. The more they cost, the closer the color is to neutral (in the green/magenta side of the spectrum). A cheaper LED fixture is likely to...

Re: Do you use Tota Lights?
I've heard all of those complaints (they do go bad, but as usual, you get what you pay for). Buzzing is often a function of the dimmer quality.
A better way is to use a quality household rotary...

Re: Do you use Tota Lights?
Only relevant if the sole light source in the frame is that one unit, which is rarely the case. White balancing to the warmer temperature will cause another light sources to shift cooler.

Re: Multicam Shoot advice
Well, there may be software based solutions for this, but I use a Decimator Quad (http://www.decimator.com/Products/Decimator_Quad/Decimator_Quad.html) for multicamera viewing on a single monitor.

Re: Firmware 1.3 is out
This is great news--it's been a bit punishing to deal with S-log 4:2:2 with the prior limitations! Also s-log 60 frame capture seems to be supported which was another sticky wicket (will be shortly...

Re: Prime Manual Lens for 5D
I've got the ZE's from 21mm up to 100mm and have had nothing but great results with them. Unfortunately many of the shoots I've done have forced me to use zooms for flexibility and speed (working,...

Re: avoiding dark under eyes when lighting
Yes, I generally will go horizontal for lighting faces; in fact one of my favorite looks is two 4x4 Kinos side by side (i.e., an 8x4) starting just off center from camera and continuing off to one...

Yes, pulling iris is indeed a term. If done carefully, it can be done invisibly. I recently shot a scene that brought some characters from broad sunlight into a large interior in one long take, and...

Re: avoiding dark under eyes when lighting
What Brian said.
Frontal lighting is pretty much the solution for this issue, which I have to manage all the time with actresses over a certain age (sometimes as "old" as 30...!). While there is...

There's those cine-style zooms like the Zeiss Digizoom that floated around when the F900 was king--but not quite as ideal for run and gun. Still a greatly improved zoom ratio over the handholdable PL...

As long as you keep the wattage within the stated limits you'll be safe. If in doubt, use a larger size ball. There are pro versions of this concept that are designed to use much higher wattage and...

Re: Need help with a shot
Actually I'm suggesting you split the white balance between tungsten (3200K) and daylight (nominally 5600, but at the time of day you are planning to shoot, more like 8000K and up) by setting it at...
