Re: Effective Backup Strategy

Before we head out, we put strips of packing tape onto each camera labeled A1 A2 A3; B1 B2 B3. Every time a card is filled up, it gets a label and goes into the case. It makes it easy to track your...

Re: Who's doing wedding fairs?

For wedding fairs, it's all about which fair it is. In my town, we have three. Two are rubbish - hundreds of brides who are only there for the fashion show and door prizes. The third is cheaper...

Re: Help and critique my wedding videography business plan, please?

And I thought we were cheap at $895 for 6 hours...

Your price needs to be determined by a few things: Right now, without any changes, are you good enough to charge more based on your market? ...

Re: 70D Issue?

I don't think the autofocus works with non-canon lenses at all, but haven't tried it. I suppose if the camera focusing works with your lens, the autofocus on the 70D will, but it's only a guess.

Re: Excited about 70D?

The specs show the 70D as having *slightly* better dynamic range and low light performance than a T3i, which we also have, though the focus help is nice. Yes, the focus motor is audible, but so is...

Re: Disappointing Audio Results

Nothing will be as good and clean as mic'ing the subject with a wireless or pocket recorder, except maybe a really good boom pole directional mic.

Five things effect your volume:
1) proximity...

Re: My latest steadycam setup.

I was trying to think of a list of shots I'd want a steadycam for, and am having trouble beyond:
1)trailing the B&G when they're announced into the reception
2) generally walking along or around...

Re: How do you manage client data?

Our client base is around 50 a year, so we stick with Google services:

Google calendar x2 (one basic one on our website shows our availability, the private calendar has contact info, notes, and...

Re: Importance of a signed contract

Signed contract is absolutely the way to go. It spells out responsibilities and resolutions for any issues. I won't work without one. It protects both me and the client.

Where and when do we...

Re: Backdrop ideas needed for a WWII doc

Depending on the tone or emotion you're looking for, I always like the way the Band of Brother's interviews were lit. You can even see the backdrop, so I'd get a basic black curtain or fabric,...

Re: ceremony technique

I don't use a monopod during the ceremony. I use my tripod, with two legs at half, and the third leg all the way down. The handle on the Mafrotto 501hdv tucks under my arm for a fourth point of...

Re: What are you lighting your receptions with?

Even a small nudge up on the house lights can make a real difference - for speeches and the first dance they'll usually accomodate us, then turn it back down after the special dances.

Camera...

Re: Longer Focal Length Recommendations for Ceremonies?

You'd have to be pretty good with a stabilizer to not need a tripod for a 135mm shot.

We use 135mm (zoom) on a crop factor (216mm equivalent) for tight shots of B&G during vows. When we can, we...

Thoughts and Suggestions

We've been learning a lot these past two years, and continue to improve, both in technique, and gear. I think we're both reaching a point where we can start consciously considering things like this...

Re: Ceremony audio - What lengths do you go to?

Do your players also show the time elapsed when recording? I've taught myself to look for that instead of the red light.

Re: How to get business from ALL weddings?

I don't have this in our area, so I'm just asking out loud:

Would it be best to create separate areas on your website for when an expected style is just that different? Or maybe it's own website...

Re: Ceremony audio - What lengths do you go to?

I know our Tascam's have that as an option. The idea is supposed to be to check your levels first without actually recording.

For those who don't like pocket recorders since you can't live...

Re: Holly and Denero

All I know is the article written by Joe Simon, after his trailer for Dallas Cowboy's QB Tony Romo's wedding went viral. He got slammed by the RIAA and had to settle for, was it five figures or six?...

Oh, no, unlicensed music?!

Jason Mraz didn't seem to fit the upbeat fun dancing everyone was doing.

The rest I liked

Re: 4-8 minute trailer help

I do my trailer last. Once I have the long edit, I go through my timeline and rewatch. Anything that evokes any kind of emotion stays. Anything important narratively stays. Maybe a few key...

Re: How to Advertise/Increase Clientele?

We're pretty new, but have already started collecting names of vendors we work with, and turn that into a database. Work with someone a few times, and offer it to them free, but with credit.

Re: How to Advertise/Increase Clientele?

If you really want to impress at a bridal show, use a TV mounted to a vertical truss/totem. Sound & Light rental places can set it up for you.

I find that video is often an afterthought for...

Re: The classiest procession I ever saw...

Why? Lord, why? If I was a guest, with my 4 year old, I think I'd have to leave.

For the 2nd one, what's with the two watermarks? And a jib crane IN the aisle?

Re: Canon t3i or t5i for video? (B camera)

The biggest matching issue is the color temp/white balance; and the ISO difference. As long as you're aware of it, you'll be able to minimize it.

We use a Mark ii with our T3is and either use...
