Video To Film Transfer In N. Texas

Does anyone know of a reasonably priced film company that does video to film transfers (mainly Sony HDCAM) in North Texas or the Austin area?

Gary McClurg October 3rd, 2006 09:11 AM

Isn't www.dvfilm.com in Dallas... I hope that link is correct... but its like $350 to $500 per minute... pretty much the going rate for smaller budgets...

try these guys.

Video Post and Transfer. They've been around forever and have a super rep in the film biz. Located on Inwood Rd. & Denton Drive right by the SE corner of Love Field and the RR tracks. Have a full HD studio for post and transfers.

They opened a new visitor's center this year, and they could probably answer your question.
Acoma Visitor Center
PO Box 309; Acoma, NM 87034
Tel: 505 470-4966 or 800 747-0181

BTW, causual tourist photography (still cameras) is permitted with a permit ($10 irrc), but video cameras are not permitted.

I have seen documentaries with footage from the Sky City, though, so they have, at least in the past, done some projects there.

48 hour film festival

Me, some friends, and some other people as crew are planning on signing up for the 48 hour film festival in new york. It will be in april or may, or around that area of time.

Unfortunately the rules do not allow us to pay anybody and if you win you don't get anything nice, if we do get something nice we will sell it and split the money amongst all members of the team. We dont' do this for winning, we just do it for fun, we had alot of fun last year...

Right now we only have an xl2, and an edit suite, both owned by me, and a good boom mic owned by my previous high school, as I have no yet purchased one on my own. Right now we have a very developed team but looking for people who are willing to come and help us out with things like compositing and lighting etc. If you just want to come and hang out and bring your equipment to help us out we would also like to have you.

This is strictly for fun, but you can add it to your reel if you feel its something you want. We have alot of fun and we all bond with each other in the 48 hours we spend together, and we spend every minute together trying to punch out a film in a weekend. Anybody who is interested post here and we will let you know a definite date of when the competition is. This is just to find out if interest is there, amounts this community.

Adam Houde October 9th, 2006 08:06 PM

The offer is still available.

We start shooting next Saturday, so PLEASE help! PLEASE e-mail me directly off list if you're willing at macloud@socal.rr.com as I don't get to check in often here...

Much appreciated,

For my money there's no better rental house in LA (at least for HDV) then indierentals, the owner Eric is a member of the board and I don't think I've ever heard a complaint from the people I've sent over there.

HVX needed for motocross race, L.A. area PAID

Hi all,

I'm in need of a camera operator with an HVX200 to shoot a motocross race Oct. 28th and 29th. There are six cameras all together, mostly XL2's but I want an HVX to shoot at 60P and downconvert it to DV tape in camera. you will need a lot of P2 cards since we're over cranking, record to tape and verify quality between races, then dump the cards and continue shooting.

There is a 5 mile motocross track, freestyle ramps and a concert stage. pay is $250/day track is located in beautiful Castaic Lake near Magic Mountain.

Please E-mail me directly (not throught DVinfo system) with pertinent information and links would be great as well.

jonbickford@sbcglobal.net

use the letters MX in the subject line.

Thanks,
-Jon

Need an XL2 pro in Tidewater VA region

I'm looking for someone in the Tidewater/ Hampton Roads Virginia region that knows the Canon XL2 like the back of his or her's hands!

I need some hands-on training. I simply do not have the time to fool around with the camera to learn from trial and error -- and I've made a few errors during shoots that I'm sure I can learn from. But I need a fast track! Just the basics. Willing to pay, if reasonable.

What does this mean?

Hi,

I feel like this is something that I should already know the answer too...I have not heard the term before "shoot spec piggyback." Can someone elaborate on this topic?

Thank you, Lisa

Nate Weaver October 20th, 2006 03:51 PM

I can't know for sure without reading the context, but having a shoot "piggyback" is to use the "real job" primary shoot's rentals to make a low-budget secondary shoot happen.

I've known people to "piggyback" a spec spot onto a real job over a weekend, to take advantage of the longer weekend rental. Often it's the same director or DP.

desperately seeking people to re-edit raw film footage

stray cinema is an open source film.

im looking for people to remix the raw footage from a film i directed (shot on DV) in london last year. it's possible you may make a better cut of the film than i will...

we will navigate the film experiment out of the online digital world, into the 'real world' with a screening of the top five films (voted by our online community) in london. at the screening we want to have vj's mixing the raw footage to live music. we also want footage from the event being web cast live onto straycinema.com, along with music, live chat and blogging.

the website (www.straycinema.com) launched two weeks ago, and we have just one submission so far. this has had over 600 views! we desperately need some more film remixes up there, so if anyone has some free time and would like to get involved, it would be much appreciated.

thanks so much,

Lisa Bennett October 24th, 2006 07:46 PM

Hi,

Thank you for the reply.

Basically there is a company that contacted me about stock footage and they asked if I would be interested in shooting spec piggyback. I had not heard the term myself. I knew someone here would have some info.

Appreciate the help.

Best Regards,
Lisa

Anyone from France (Paris)?

as mentioned elsewhere on this board, i've ended up looking for either Panasonic DVX100 (A/B) or Canon XL2. i won't be going into details, but most possibly i'll be buying one of those (through a friend) from France. so would there be anyone from Paris on this message board to give me names of local shops that sell such camcorders (preferably at a considerable/discount price)? this is fairly urgent, as there are certain deadlines. thanks in advance.

Gareth Watkins October 28th, 2006 03:14 PM

Hi Aram
In paris you have Cirque Video on the Boulevard de Beaumarchais.. http://www.lecirque.fr/ not far from the Bastille or check out http://www.videoplus.fr/

both have the gear at reasonable prices...

or http://www.dvloc.com/

thanks, Gareth, i've checked those websites. but it looks like those camcorders cost more in the UK and Europe, than in the States :-(
