I could not imagine the mirror gizmo working for focus. The Z-Finder (or equivalent) is the only real way to go.
If you always shoot below your head, perhaps you should simply lower your head.

I'd suggest a quick read through the compression page at vimeo. Restricting your data rate and compressing your audio is key.

Hand-held 70-200mm

Check your buttons!

By default Edius puts two buttons above the Timeline "A" audio and "V" video. Check to see that one of the buttons have not been (accidentally) pressed. This is a common problem when editing quickly....

I'm using Edius 5.5 and edit native T2i .mov's mixed on the timeline with native EXCam footage.
I like this camera more with each shoot. This was edited before Edius 5.5 with it's improved...

32GB worked fine.

I used a borrowed one yesterday in my T2i.
Average clip length was 8 min.
Shooting 24p went without a hiccup.

Native 24p is a breeze.

My PC struggles a bit with native 29.97p using Edius.
It's a real pleasure mixing with native 24p EX Cam footage. Sync is right on!

Cameras with synced internal freerun clocks can have their clips easily and automatically placed on a timeline.
