Philippe Gosselin May 20th, 2004, 12:52 PM Thx Michael , I found it :) Philippe Gosselin May 20th, 2004, 12:59 PM Hi all, I am doing a sequence that looks like a really old film , back then when they had to put text on a black screen (between shots) they usually put beautiful pattern above and below the text. Anybody knows a way to do that thx a million. Gavin Stokes May 20th, 2004, 03:06 PM Thanks for the info, Rob. I guess I'll keep Premiere installed for frame export. They really should add this to Vegas, though. You can't ask for a much simpler feature. >2) windows media player isn't doing anything at all. The MJPEG codec of your board is doing all the hard work. Exactly. Thus my comment about Vegas's inability to play it back to the monitor, and my assumption that Vegas must be putting everything in the timeline into some intermediate format or cache for playback. It's too bad that so many editing apps these days are setting their sights so low in terms of quality. Downgrading everything to DV is anything but "pro". That's fine for home movies, but there are lots of Matrox and Targa boards out there that do better. Regards, Gavin Shane Schmidt May 20th, 2004, 05:27 PM Just recieved my upgrade to V5, installed Boris G LTD and then attempted to install the Movie Looks for Vegas program and got this error; LoadLibrary("C:\Program Files\Movie Looks for Vegas\MovieLooks.dll") failed - The specified module could not be found. I uninstalled it and tried again but with the same results. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks in advance. Shane Federico Dib May 20th, 2004, 05:57 PM Defragmentation didn´t do it... Still choppy playback. Summarizing... anything I´ve captured with Vegas is playing choppy either on the Preview or in any other MEdia Player... But stuff rendered with vegas plays ok in Vegas and in WMPlayer.. Any idea? John Hudson May 20th, 2004, 08:00 PM I think I know what you are talking about... Kind of a 'calligraphy' looking 'fountain pen' squirl? (That is my technical speak) My best guess is to do it Photoshop and then import it. Andy Shrimpton May 20th, 2004, 08:24 PM Hello All! I purchased Vegas 4.0 during the timeframe where you get the free update to 5.0. The fine print read that this upgrade offer was only available to residents of the U.S.A. After contacting Sony, and emailing a scanned copy of my invoice, Sony have decided to honour the offer to me, (possibly after I pointed out that the downloaded version was all I required - saving postage). So THANK YOU & WELL DONE SONY! Excellent customer service, in keeping with what I'd heard! So, I'm off tonight to enjoys the dial up load down of Vegas 5! Thanks also to Edward for the usual quick and helpful reponses. Andy Andy Shrimpton May 20th, 2004, 08:28 PM Hi All! I'm about to update to Vegas 5 from Vers 4. Anything I need to know or do before hand to ensure this goes smoothly? If it is relevent: Win XP Pro Celeron 2.8 Mhz 1 Gb of RAM 1 x 160 Gb HD 1 x 80 Gb HD Any tips much appreciated. Andy Philippe Gosselin May 20th, 2004, 08:38 PM Well John , you read my mind. Don't have photoshop (don't tell me i have to leanr ANOTHER program hihihihi) Guess i got my first reason to get thx Phil Shane Schmidt May 20th, 2004, 09:27 PM Nevermind, I found the fix for this, there is a new installer available. Let me know if anyone needs the link. Edward Troxel May 20th, 2004, 09:55 PM Congratulations. Glad to hear they honored the offer - even when they had the right not to do so. Edward Troxel May 20th, 2004, 09:56 PM Just install 5.0a and have fun! Rob Lohman May 21st, 2004, 05:26 AM What is SmartSound? Jim Quinlan May 21st, 2004, 06:30 AM Yes, please post the link. It happened to me also but was too busy and forgot to go back and address it. Thanks Rob Lohman May 21st, 2004, 06:40 AM That is simply a market that Vegas is not appealing to at the moment I think. Although they do support HDV and native HD resolutions and such. They just do not support it on their preview out. Vegas does not use an intermediate version. It simply outputs the video signal over firewire, that is all. I just looked in the preferences (under options) and you can set which Video standard it should use under Video Devices. If you set that to Video for Windows and then select your MJPEG driver it might still work? Give that a try. Again, it does have frame export. Only through scripting (they deliver the script to do this). Rob Lohman May 21st, 2004, 06:55 AM Any chance you changed the whole track to minor slowmotion for example? Or that you have external preview turned on without an external preview device present? In my experience external preview slows anything down anyway. Perhaps you changed some project setting by accident? Edward Troxel May 21st, 2004, 07:17 AM I believe it's on both the Sony and Magic Bullet web sites. Philip Boyer May 21st, 2004, 07:37 AM http://www.smartsound.com/ Federico Dib May 21st, 2004, 07:50 AM I´m afraid my findings are not good... I´ve found that if I move the video files to another Hard Drive they play smoothly.. So I guess my HD is the problem? Douglas Spotted Eagle May 21st, 2004, 09:01 AM Much of Vegas 4 book is relevant to Vegas 5, but there is a Vegas 5 book that has been turned into the publisher too. Plus we have our Instant Series book on Vegas coming soon too. Douglas Spotted Eagle May 21st, 2004, 09:02 AM There are images of the Chicago VASST posted on the VASST site for those that would like to view them. We had a camera malfunction in Denver, no pix from there. Great classes, fun days, good energy from all. We had a great time there both at the Sony Event and the VASST Day event. Tomorrow is the ACID event with Jeffrey P. Fisher. Congrats to the winners of the Bella keyboards, Hark Production loops, Artbeats footage, ADS Tank, Neon/Excalibur, VASST DVDs, Pixelan SpiceFilters. Looking forward to seeing more of you down the road, LA is next. Looking forward to meeting the SCVUG folks! http://www.vasst.com/tourstops/tourpix.htm Shane Schmidt May 21st, 2004, 09:33 AM Here is where I found it (the fix worked btw). http://www.redgiantsoftware.com/vegassupport.html Shane Schmidt May 21st, 2004, 09:47 AM Its a custom soundtrack generator. Josh Bass May 21st, 2004, 12:42 PM For some reason, when I start up the Vegas capture utility recently, there's nothing on the bottom half of the window. What I mean is, normally there's a white space that shows all the clips you've logged, and now, It's just a blank grey expanse. Also, when I mark an in and an out, and then click "log in/out", nothing happens. What'd I do? Sunny Dhinsey May 21st, 2004, 02:45 PM Don't know if this will help, but try 'dragging' the bottom half of the grey expanse upwards. Place you cursor at the bottom and see if a double arrow resizer appears, if so drag it up, if not - then I'm as lost as you are! Sunny Dhinsey May 21st, 2004, 02:59 PM Don't know if this is really acceptable, but you could even do the pattern in something like the standard Windows 'Paint' program (assuming you have a Windows based PC) over a coloured background (like blue for example) and then use the chroma keyer in Vegas to remove the blue if need be. I only use Photoshop when preparing images etc for Vegas and I have never tried it with Windows Paint, so can't comment on its effectiveness, but I am certain that Windows Paint does not give you templates for matching video aspect ratio! I might give it a try for myself! I've probably confused you even more, but thought I would add my input! Colin Rayner May 21st, 2004, 06:06 PM Speaking of music generators for Vegas, does anyone know of any others that are compatible? Gavin Stokes May 21st, 2004, 09:21 PM Hi Rob. Yeah, I tried the Video for Windows settings and picked the Matrox driver, but no dice. That's what's baffling, because as we both noted, the codec's doing the work. If Vegas is not converting to an internal format for placement in the timeline (as FCP does), then they're transcoding on the fly for DV output through FireWire. Regards, Gavin Josh Bass May 21st, 2004, 10:23 PM Thanks. I'll try it. Jim Lafferty May 22nd, 2004, 11:52 AM Acid? Jim Lafferty May 22nd, 2004, 11:57 AM Somewhat related -- there's talk of Zenote releasing a suite of Magic Bullet-like movie looks. If you haven't already, I suggest you give their "Glow" filter a look -- at $30, combine it with judicious use of the Color Curves and Color Corrector, and you've got yourself a very good look setup. Combine it further with color overlays, luma masks... there's no reason to care much about MB, and plenty of reasons to drop their render times. - jim Peter Jefferson May 22nd, 2004, 01:22 PM acids more of a looping tool and multitracker than an actual generator.. John Hudson May 22nd, 2004, 04:05 PM You might not even need any software. Perhaps search the net for jpegs or designs you are looking for? Jim Lafferty May 22nd, 2004, 09:35 PM Ah, thanks for making that distinction clear... Harry Settle May 22nd, 2004, 10:14 PM You are going to have a ball, after you get over the initial shock of the transition. Want to have more fun? Consider dumping the Celeron for a system with hyperthreading, it will make a big diff in rendering times with V5. Rob Lohman May 23rd, 2004, 06:46 AM That could be. It might be something as simple as you not having turned on DMA for that drive. Or you need to defrag. But it can also be more serious in that the drive is failing. Is there another device on the same channel (cable) as the drive? Rob Lohman May 23rd, 2004, 07:18 AM Yes, if you have external monitor on it is doing on the fly DV encoding before sending it over the firewire channel. Love Mov May 23rd, 2004, 10:21 AM How one render to a file in shared directory, and use another networked PC gets input from that file? Seems I can't make it work, either render to local or remote PC. Any trick, oe maybe it doesn't even supported? Thanks. Imran Zaidi May 23rd, 2004, 11:50 AM A big thank you to Edward Troxel for a great evening with Vegas on Friday night here in downtown Orlando. We covered a lot of ground, from the Zenote plugins to Edward's Excalibur/Tsunami/Neon plugins to a deep look into some of the new features of Vegas 5.0. It was a great environment of sharing and mutual problem solving, mixed in with just some good old fashioned get-to-knows. Thanks to everybody that came out, and thanks again Edward. People pay a lot of money for the expertise and knowhow you brought to the meeting, and you shared it with us for free. Thanks all! Jeff Donald May 23rd, 2004, 12:25 PM I'm sorry I missed the show. I had an inkjet printing workshop to present the next day and with the travel time and all I didn't think it would work out. If you have another meeting I would love to know about it. Nick Kerpchar May 23rd, 2004, 01:01 PM Douglas, Thanks for the reply. I know that you are on the road doing training so I appreciate your taking the time. T.J. also sent me an email in response to my question and I appreciate that very much as well. Looks like I'll make the leap to Vegas 5 + DVD now that I know your books will be coming in the near future. Thanks again, Nick Stephen Sobel May 23rd, 2004, 06:40 PM I'm working on a project - and I have one clip that has a bit of an orange tint. Is there a way in Vegas to change the color to something more natural looking? Mike Moncrief May 23rd, 2004, 07:14 PM Hello, I second that Thanks to Edward, and thanks to you Imran for providing the nice conference room and projector for our informal get together..Also thanks to Aaron Hurley for showing his Zenote plug-ins..I was impressed with Edwards knowldege and plug-ins.. And also impressed with the overall knowledge of the group.. I am a fairly new user of Vegas..(got onboard in version 4) and learned a few little tips that are invaluable.. keep in touch Thanks, Mike Moncrief Guy Bruner May 23rd, 2004, 07:47 PM Try the video FXes, Color Corrector and Secondary Color Corrector. Stephen Sobel May 23rd, 2004, 07:51 PM I tried that. My choices seem to be keeping the orange tint, or getting another tint such as purple or green. I realize I'm a rookie at this, but is there a way to reduce or eliminate the orange for a more natural color - without exchanging one tint for another. Peter Moore May 23rd, 2004, 08:29 PM Did they totally screw up this tool or am I a moron? I try to change the width, and it just snaps to whatever the hell it feels like. I've unchecked Maintain Aspect, Stretch to Frame, etc. Still has a mind of its own. Guy Bruner May 23rd, 2004, 08:57 PM Try BillyBoy's tutorial (http://www.wideopenwest.com/%7ewvg/tutorial-2.htm) on getting rid of a color cast. Edward Troxel May 23rd, 2004, 09:58 PM This is a known problem. I would expect it to be fixed soon but can make no guarantees. I'm not sure what the story is but it has been reported by multiple people. Edward Troxel May 23rd, 2004, 10:02 PM It was a great evening. I'd like to thank everyone for coming. Maybe you all can start an Orlando area user's group. (I have e-mail addresses for everyone who attended) Rob Lohman May 24th, 2004, 01:37 AM Frameserving should only work on your local machine. Are you saying you cannot get LOCAL frameserving to work? If so, please state the following: 1. program you are frameserving to 2. things you are doing exactly (also where you are writing the file to and what name you've given it) 3. errors messages etc. you get |
