was that the episode of "the brady bunch" where mike throws his briefcase on the floor to cause the evil false insurance claim chaser in the neck collar to turn his head?

I thought that was an episode of "The Lucy Show" or whatever the later series was called, and the character was Mr. Mooney in a neckbrace...or maybe it was that actor playing a character in the brady bunch...I guess I disremember...my childhood seems to be a fuzzy haze with flashes of Tang, Watergate and the Brady Bunch. -Jon |

COUNSELOR!!!! COUNSELOR!!! freaky movie, but I really loved it. My vote is "Cape Fear", the remake with DeNiro. Pretty much every line he utters in that movie is quotable. The only problem is that with many of them, he is quoting them himself from various sources of text. (BTW: the above quote I posted before this one includes a word I pulled from Robert Mitchum - "I disremember". He spoke it in the opening lines of a movie he made called "Night of the Hunter". Mitchum played DeNiro's character in the original version of "Cape Fear" - it is less grusome than the remake, but probably even more frightening. Mitchum's presence is like that. "Night of the Hunter" was kind of silly in its way, but still pretty creepy - and it was remade also, in the 80's I believe, and it starred Richard Chamberlain, but it was a total embarrassment compared to Mitchum's performance.) - sorry for the rambling -Jon |
correct ;-)
your turn p.s your explanation was very educative ;-) |
Quote:
"H-A-T-E. It was with this left hand that ol' brother Cain struck the blow that layed his brother low. L-O-V-E. You see these fingers, dear hearts? These fingers had veins that run straight to the soul of man. The right hand, friends, the hand of love. Now watch and I'll show you the story of life. These fingers, dear hearts, is always a warrin' and a tuggin' - one again' t'other. Now watch 'em. Ol' brother left hand HATE's a fightin', and it looks like LOVE's a gonner...But wait a minute - WAIT A MINUTE. HOTDOG! LOVE's a winnin'! YESSIRREE! It's LOVE that won! And ol' left hand HATE is down for the count!" -brief pause- "I never heard it better told." This is taken from what is likely the most singularly entertaining scene of the whole movie. If any of you have seen it but once, you will know this quote. I have this quote memorized, but if you plug it into an internet search, you will probably find the source movie. So...extra points awarded to the guesser who can also provide an appropriate description of the visual props used by the speaker. -Jon |
pure guess
Is it from kingpin. If I can remember correctly bill murray has a prostetic hand and it sure looks like a quote from the mouth of bill I could be entirely wrong but worth of guess :-) |
Quote:
FWIW, I think it is Woody Harrelson with the prostethic, but either way...nope, it is not Kingpin. sorry. -Jon |
ok long time ago that I've seen that movie :p
|
Spike Lee's "Do The Right Thing."
Radio Raheem with his "brass knuckle" rings, one on each hand. |
Quote:
But you are still a little off. The movie quote I posted is actually the original source material from which Raheem laid out his lines - sort of an homage to the character in my post. What Raheem provides is an updated 'street smart' version, but I'm still looking for the original movie. So reach down into soul of your movie lovin' passions and.... try again. -Jon |
Well then, how about Robert Mitchum in "Night of the Hunter."
Tattoos on the knuckles of his fingers. Howzat? |

Your turn. -Jon |
Well, it took two throws to make that basket! Both are great movies, too.
Okay, let's see how quick this one goes... once again, think classic: Nestor: "And another thing. Ya gotta stop sassin' them officers like ya just did." Mike: "When are ya gonna learn, Nestor? You can say anything you want to 'em, as long as ya put 'sir' on the end of it." |
Quote:
Well, it isn't coming to me...so I'm gonna guess a movie that I have never even seen. Is it "Cool Hand Luke? -Jon |
Nope, not even close, sorry!
Just about the only thing this has in common with "CHL" that I can readily think of is that both movies each won an Academy award. ;-) |
scarface?
one of those mike hammer movies, but the names are escaping me.... |
The Last Detail with Jack Nicholson??
|
A hint: Murph is on the right track. If you can boil Murph's movie down to one single word, that's what kind of movie mine is, and I don't mean a comedy.
An incentive: whoever gets this right *plus* names the actors who played these roles *plus* describes exactly what they're doing when they say those lines, gets some DV Info swag in the mail from me (overseas could take awhile). (edit:) Holy cow, I just gave another hint in the paragraph above! |
Stripes, or Taps, or Officer and a Gentleman???
|
Murph, we seem to have different definitions of how old a movie has to be in order to qualify for "classic" status... in my book, nothing from the 1980's will do! But to help you out, it has something in common with Officer and Gentleman and The Last Detail but nothing in common with Stripes or Taps.
|
Oh, I'm with you on Classics...70's and before almost always. It was just wild guessing on my part. But, as much as I don't really like 80's movies up until now...there isn't a lot of great films to chose from. Here are some early 80's "classics" in my opinion. Maybe up until about 1984...things after that really went south. So yeah, "early" 80's "classics"? Tell me what you think..
The Shining - 1980 Raging Bull - 1980 The Elephant Man - 1980 Terminator - 1984 ET- 1982 The Big Chill - 1983 Raiders of the Lost Ark - 1981 Amadeus - 1983 The Outsiders - 1983 I know, off topic from our "quotes"...sorry! I'm pretty much out of guesses on your quote....one last guess is "PATTON"????? |
Start a new thread for off-topic stuff!
"The Last Detail" and "Officer and a Gentleman" have something in common with each other (as well as the movie my quote is from) but not with Taps, Stripes, or Patton. Or Battle of the Bulge or Kelly's Heroes or Platoon. However it would have something in common with Top Gun. Now what could that be? |
A Few Good Men?
|
power rangers the movie?, that movie rocks !! :p:p:p
|
Another hint: it was made sometime during the 1950's.
Has something in common with The Last Detail, An Officer And A Gentleman, and Top Gun. Nothing in common with Taps, Stripes, or Patton. Or Battle of the Bulge or Kelly's Heroes or Platoon. A Few Good Men... if you need a ruling, well call it a no. There is an inportant clue in my paragraph about the swag. Somebody out there has seen this movie. It's been on late night television hundreds of times. It starred a couple of A-list actors from that decade and won an Academy award, so it's not all that obscure. |
From Here to Eternity?
|
Ballpark. Wrong war. That's a black and white film, mine is in color.
|
lol!
The Bridge of River Kwai? Wait that's world war II! |
So a war movie with prisoners in a camp that tries to escape then.. From the 50s..
When is " the great escape" from? Could it be that one? |
