I'll elongate it a little bit by adding to it slightly to better reflect a fuller portion of the quote:
!
"eroding.....EEERODING! EROOOODDDDIIIING!!!"

just try speaking it in the manner it is written. If you've seen the movie, it will become clear very quickly.

Sorry. Try again.

I'll give it a few more hours, and if no takers, I'll add a few more sentences....but then it will be a total giveaway.

Okay, time to give it away with a few more sentences from the referenced scene:

-- "I'm here with Katherine Hepburn's mom."

-- "Did you feel bad at all letting Leo DiCaprio drown, while you were safe floating on the big door?"

-- "You've been running Maid of the Mist for 23 years now. Tell me, why do you think I didn't get the anchor job?"

-- "Or, like the great falls, is the bedrock of my life eroding beneath me? Eroding, Eeroooding.....EEEERRROOOOOODING!"

Somebody has GOT to get this. If not, my next clue will be the name of the movie.

Andy Graham July 31st, 2006 03:36 PM

ok i hope the moderators don't block this.

"I once fought for two days with an arrow through my testicle"

great line!

Andy Graham August 1st, 2006 11:24 AM

Ok no takers.....well this clue should pretty much give it away

The line was delivered by liam neeson.

Dimitri De Keukelaere August 1st, 2006 11:51 AM

"Kingdom of heaven" ?

Angela Frasure August 1st, 2006 02:27 PM

I think the man from Scotland means Rob Roy?

Andy Graham August 1st, 2006 04:00 PM

Dimitri is right , although good guess Angela

Dimitri you may take the floor

Dimitri De Keukelaere August 2nd, 2006 11:33 AM

ok here it goes.

"I should do something very extroverted and vengeful to you. Honestly, I'm too tired. So, I think I'll transfer you to the undergrowth department, brackens, more shrubs, that sort of thing... with a 19% cut in salary, backdated to the beginning of time."

Dimitri De Keukelaere August 3rd, 2006 11:34 AM

hmm no guesses for now

time for a hint then:

one american and a bunch of English wankers.

Barry Gribble August 3rd, 2006 12:26 PM

Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels?

Dimitri De Keukelaere August 3rd, 2006 12:29 PM

Nope

I'll give another hint because it maybe is to farfetched

Sean Connery plays a fireman and a king, in the movie.

hope tis will be the give-away :-)

Andy Graham August 3rd, 2006 02:55 PM

btw i have no idea wot the film is

Andy

Dimitri De Keukelaere August 3rd, 2006 02:59 PM

But ofcourse I love the English :p it's just a word i like to use.

I'll just tell the answer: "Time bandits"

the first hint was to the monty python series: terry gilliam (the director of "time bandits" being the only american of the team)

the second hint, well it says enough :-)

so the next quote is for whom who is the fastest to post one :-)

Andy Graham August 3rd, 2006 03:16 PM

I watched a little bit of that movie but it was a bit too out there for my liking (from memory )

heres another one then

actor A) "What's the matter with you?

actor B) I can't swim.

actor A) Why you crazy, the fall will probably kill you. "

Cole McDonald August 3rd, 2006 03:32 PM

butch cassidy and the sundance kid?

Andy Graham August 3rd, 2006 06:10 PM

you'r right cole......one of the best films ever.

Andy

Cole McDonald August 3rd, 2006 08:20 PM

Well then, I have to put up a fun one too...

"I love duck...or is it soup? Which one do you shoot?"

Barry Gribble August 4th, 2006 11:28 PM

Hmmm love the line... any hints?

Cole McDonald August 5th, 2006 05:20 AM

it's a military film...

Lorinda Norton August 5th, 2006 03:52 PM

"military film"
If I'm right, that's sort of a loose description! ;) Is it Hot Shots?

Lori Starfelt August 5th, 2006 09:05 PM

Duck Soup?

Seems like an obvious guess.

Cole McDonald August 6th, 2006 02:22 AM

it's been two days (day and a half)...top gun, lloyd bridges. The response to the line is:

"Duck sir."

The admiral hits his head on the desk trying to duck in instinctually.

"Are you alright sir?"

"Why, what have you heard?"

Who's up?

Barry Gribble August 6th, 2006 06:34 AM

Wow, I don't remember that at all...

hmmm, I guess Lorinda is up.

Lorinda Norton August 6th, 2006 09:24 AM

Okay, I just watched this movie again last night. There are so many great lines I'm having a tough time choosing! But here goes:

Aaauugh!! For the love of God! Does no one else hear that infernal ringing??!?

Lorinda Norton August 6th, 2006 01:06 PM

Let's add to it; this might help jog a memory...

Go ahead and laugh, play basketball, have fun. In the meantime I've got *bleep* Quasimodo goin' off in my head. Bell Tower!! You understand me? I got a bell tower IN MY HEAD!

Lorinda Norton August 6th, 2006 09:39 PM

Released in 2001, directed by Barry Levinson. Two Golden Globe nominations (best actor, best actress).

Terry (previous quotes, as well): I don't want to rob banks for the rest of my life. The stress level is just too damn high.

Jonathan Jones August 6th, 2006 09:44 PM

Sorry, I was out to lunch (so to speak) or I would have gotten this sooner. I LOVE this movie. It is called BANDITS, and these lines you post are spoken by Billy Bob Thorton who, along with Bruce Willis form a pair of crooks known as the Sleepover Bandits. They filmed some of this in a tiny sleepy little town nearby and pretty much made the talk of the town for a little while.

Great and fun movie.
-Jon

Lorinda Norton August 6th, 2006 09:49 PM

You're right, Jonathan. Every time Billy Bob Thornton opened his mouth it was a quotable, perfect line. Even when he wasn't talking his expressions cracked me up. I think he's a great actor.

Your turn! :)

Jonathan Jones August 6th, 2006 11:20 PM

Okay, well then here is a fun one from one of my very favorite movies of all time though it is a little older (late 80's)

It is very hard to choose a line since it is completely filled to the brim with quotable lines. Here is one:

X1: You mean you busted out of jail.
X2: No, ma'am. We released ourselves on our own recognizance.
X3: What my brother here means to say is that we felt the institution no longer had anything to offer us.

-Jon

Barry Gribble August 7th, 2006 07:00 AM

You are so right about that... Raising Arizona. First DVD I ever bought.

In a similar vein here's mine:

"You know... for kids!"

Charles Papert August 7th, 2006 07:04 AM

Hudsucker Proxy. I'll bet my Pulitzer on it!

"It's not what he eats, it's what's eating him that makes it--sort of interesting".

Barry Gribble August 8th, 2006 05:27 PM

Hmmm.... I love the quote, but have no guesses... any clues?

Chris Hurd August 8th, 2006 05:36 PM

Yeah Chas, clue please! Or... another quote from the same movie? I'm stumped.

Jonathan Jones August 9th, 2006 10:18 AM

Okay, I'll take a shot...but this one it totally in the dark and only based on the literal interpretation of the quote:

"What's Eating Gilbert Grape?"

-Jon

Jonathan Jones August 9th, 2006 10:21 AM

Two more long shots in a darkened room:

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (the remake)

or perhaps

The Yellow Submarine

these guesses are really 'out there'...but then the quote sounds like it might be also.

-Jon

Barry Gribble August 11th, 2006 07:07 AM

I did a little cheating to check up on that... no and no...

The movie is from 1980, and Peter O'Toole says the line.
