Ahh, as far as GoPros go, then the Silver would be a better choice for the typical person on a vacation. It has a back screen (unlike the Black) and can still do 2.7K, if he cares.

I would simply use my phone, which is pretty new, rather than having to add an item and weight to my hiking gear. Newer nice phones (mine is a Moto X) match up pretty well with most action cams. ...
