Re: What gives with these lights

Well, the lasers can wreck your sensor, but sometimes they take it too far.

I couldn't find the worst shot, but to give you some idea...

Re: What gives with these lights

Yeah, but, let's face it... most are.

I still DJ 30 weddings a year and bought wirelessly controlled up lighting a few years ago. That means I can CHANGE the color on the fly. So, during...

Re: Any reason why I shouldn't buy a 7D2 for dedicated steadicam camera?

I know. For wide shot, there is a 10-18mm but its f/4.5-5.6. Nice during outdoors, though.
Similar problem with their 18mm+ zooms... 18-135mm and 18-55mm (which is, truly... cheap).

Its why I...

Re: Any reason why I shouldn't buy a 7D2 for dedicated steadicam camera?

I can't speak to the lens, but have had really poor experiences with non-STM lenses using the autofocus. Some lenses are better than others (the primes tend to do OK). Lots of vibration, hunting...

Re: Dragging a stabilizer along to the photoshoot

That focusing system is wonderful and will spoil you rotten. You'll need STM lenses, though, to get the most from it. STM lenses will focus slowly and smoothly rather than herky-jerky, causing...

Re: Wireless system with two lav mics

Two separate wireless lavs, into a Tascam recorder (left and right), then into your camera. That gets you dual source, and you can still mute one or both. Synching is easy, too, if you even need...

Re: How would you cue audio

Dual system is more useful for us at a wedding if I, for instance, run a pastor's wireless mic to the recorder, along with a shotgun mic, then both into the camera. We use a 5d Mark ii so there is...

Re: Scam?

There are plenty of 'pay to win' style awards, though this one seems to be hiding that with one extra step.

There is a local DJ company that "won" a major national award a couple of years ago. ...

Re: This might get their attention

For those who can't or won't read the article...

Pretty much all of New York city is Class B airspace (restricted, and within 5 miles of an airport). These guys flew 43 flights in that space...

Re: A good walk around prime for evening receptions

I use 3 lenses, usually... my Sigma 17-70 f/2.8-4 Macro is nice for detail work and for when the reception isn't too dark. Or, for the dark, or my other cameras, I have a Canon 35mm f/2 and 85mm...

Re: Glidecam over my slider

The only time I'll use my slider, its stays on its tripod and has its own camera... until the ceremony when I need them all.

That said.. no, I don't really use it any more. Too often I don't have...

Re: Harry Potter Moving Picture Effect

Maybe. You may also want to run the frames through photoshop and make it look like more of a painting.

Re: Hero or another

Ahh, as far as GoPros go, then the Silver would be a better choice for the typical person on a vacation. It has a back screen (unlike the Black) and can still do 2.7K, if he cares.

Re: Hero or another

I would simply use my phone, which is pretty new, rather than having to add an item and weight to my hiking gear. Newer nice phones (mine is a Moto X) match up pretty well with most action cams. ...

Re: My first attempt at a film.

I think you're forgetting that the technical leads to the emotional.

I asked, for instance, about the music, cues, and pacing tied to the editing because I know the impact it will end up having on...

Re: My first attempt at a film.

Well, that explains it.

Our setup has tripods up front on either outside. The left side (where bride stands) has a clear view of groom's face for entrance and vows. I man the monopod on the...

I think she'll like it, too.

For my suggestions...

change up the music for the vows. Holly Maher's Perfect Day or Always Be are both excellent choices. I often blend the vocal and...

Re: What Is It With Vintage Wedding Themes?

I think you mean 'rustic' theme, not vintage, if we're talking about jars, apple boxes, and burlap.

They've been big in the U.S. for a few years now. Especially with people turning old barns into...

Re: Back with another...Talk to me....

For white balance you just have to actually talk to each other... and of course in a large space like a church, the light may be different in various spaces, and from different angles (had one church...

Re: Low light, grain, and fast glass

With better low light being understood (even a clean 6400 would be nice), I'll add
4K
same focusing as the 70D

I agree about f/1.4, though, same as having those lights around, just in case, it...

Re: Low light, grain, and fast glass

in keeping with michael's suggestions... the Canon 35mm f/2 is a very nice lens in that price range as well for something a little wide, but not landscape.

We've also got a 5d Mark ii, and a pair...

Re: Travel Fee

I don't charge mileage up to about 60 miles away. That's largely because my largest metro area (200,000 people) is exactly that distance.

For real travel, I book it per mile, plus hotel and...

Re: Audio starter kit

If we're talking about weddings, on-camera shotgun mics and 2 or 3 pocket recorders will do wonders.

For on camera: Rode makes lovely mics for not a whole lot of money in the scheme of things. You...

Re: Inexpensive glass on a nice camera?

The better glass will give better results, except that its also a diminishing return. Each of us has to decide how far to take it before the expense isn't worth the result.

For my wife and I,...

Re: Who is just doing a hightlight film and giving away raw footage?

I'd double check with them to see if they actually want the raw footage, or if they're expecting a simple linear documentary style all-footage edit.
